lots of fire engines outside heber school
Princess replied to yummumbums's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Apparently the alarm at the school went off and there was a smell of smoke in the air. On arrival the crews weren't sure if the two were connected. They gained access pretty quickly but I assume there wasn't anything to be put out as they'd gone as quickly as they'd arrived!! -
Good luck Moos. We had a really bad start with b'feeding. We were both riddled with thrush and when I eventually got diagnosed by the wonderful Katie Fisher she discovered a tongue tie too. I wanted to see if when we got the thrush under control it would help with the feeding. It did, my son was thriving and subsequently I didn't have the frenulectomy. However, 11 months on I am beginning to feel that maybe I should have. My son has had a real problem with profuse dribbling since he was 5 weeks old and this is all to do with his tongue tie. I'm now really struggling with the decision as to whether to do it now, or hope the dribbling improves the more teeth he gets. If I'd have been better educated as to other possible side effects would I have made a different choice - possibly. Px

Christmas trees and babies/toddlers...
Princess replied to Saila's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Exactly the discussion we've been having in our house for the past week or so. I was tempted by this http://www.besportier.com/archives/eco-plywood-christmas-tree-by.html with just a sprinkling of lights and not a bauble or bit of tinsel (my pet hate anyway) in sight. As my husband pointed out to me it's still going to get pulled over though! -
Thank you all for your suggestions. I will follow these up on Monday and hope someone can give me some further advice. Mrs TP it's a really complicated story that actually began when I was 6 months pregnant. It probably isn't for a public forum at this point in time!

Can anybody recommend a really good lawyer who specialises in maternity law please? I know in previous threads people have talked about cover via their insurance. Unfortunately no matter what level of insurance we have, our providers do not offer legal help for employment related matters. Therefore, I would really appreciate a first hand recommendation for someone who knows the ins and outs of maternity law to represent me in what has become quite a tricky situation, rather than just picking a name out of the Yellow Pages! Thanks Px

Did anyone on here have a baby on 10.10.10?
Princess replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Not quite ED but our friends in West London had a little baby boy, Edward, on Sunday evening bang on his 10.10.10 due date! -
We have exactly the same thing with my nearly 10mnth old. He will not sleep in the P&T or the travel buggy. It is massively restrictive for us as we always need to be near his cot for his afternoon nap or alternatively, brace ourselves for a difficult bedtime and disturbed night. Obviously the latter isn't pleasant for him or us!! I've just bought a SnoozeShade and it has helped a bit. He will now sleep at his regular nap time in the buggy but only for 20 mins rather than the 2hrs I'd get in the cot. It might be worth a shot, I'm not sure how you'd attach it to the doubles kit though.

Dropping the 10pm feed, and pillows
Princess replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
On the elevating the matress idea I've found yellow pages under 2 cot legs work really well too. We first did it about 3 months ago when my now 9 month old had a cold. He seems to sleep so much better with the slight elevation (cold or not) that the unsightly directories are still there! -
20 week scan - what do i need to bring
Princess replied to reren's topic in The Family Room Discussion
They were brilliant with us. We told them we didn't want to know if it was a boy or a girl as soon as we walked in. When she needed to look at the baby's thigh bone in more detail she told us to look away from the monitor so we didn't see anything. I dutifully looked away (I REALLY didn't want to know) but hubby couldn't contain himself and gasped when he saw it was a boy. We then left having a huge row that he then knew and I didn't! -
Newborn hearing screening - does it make sense?
Princess replied to Sanne Panne's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I know it's a bit of a faff but they really do have a great and efficient system at Sunshine House. They don't overbook so there's rarely anyone other then you waiting to be seen. The test itself is very simple and involves a probe being popped into baby's ear whilst you either give them boob or a bottle. They then listen to a series of 'clicks' in baby's ear. The whole 'being asleep' thing isn't necessary. My son did the classic of sleeping all the way there on the No.12 and then woke up (and screamed) the minute we arrived. If you do drive there are usually some empty Pay and Display areas in front of the flats in the road opposite (can't rememer road name off the top of my head) which might make life a bit easier. Edited to add, there's a nice soft play area there too which might entertain your toddler for a bit if you do have to wait!! -
I had an acupuncture induction with Dan from the Therapy Rooms on Lordship Lane. He was fantastic and I would definitely use him for labour or another induction if ever I have another baby.

There was a thread on this not so long ago http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,467059,471239#msg-471239 Personally I think if you just keep a close eye out in the first couple of weeks you'll know how the cat feels about it all. My little one is now 8 months and he and 'Lady Snuff Licorice Blue' are honestly best friends!

Looking for a suction bowl that actually works...
Princess replied to amydown's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Amy, There's these things too. https://www.buygyrobowl.com/flare/next?rtag=loopabowlbuynow& It doesn't stop things being thrown but does prevent spills. We got ours from Amazon I think. Px -
Planned home birth, facing induction
Princess replied to anna_r's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Again a vote for acupuncture and Dan at Dulwich Therapy rooms. There wasn't any sign of anything happening for me at 41+1. I had a session with Dan late on Sunday morning, went for lunch, then to the cinema. At 7.30pm I was just settling down to watch the X factor final (I know, I know but in my defense I was 9 months pregnant), I had my first contraction and by 10.30pm my son had arrived! If I ever have another one and go over again I would definitely go and see him before considering 'clinical' intervention. -
Katie Fisher is another great lactation consultant. She helped me out on Boxing Day last year when I was beyond desperate!

Anyone used a thrupenny bits breastfeeding cushion?
Princess replied to Bishberro's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Well, I did find it useful and yes it worked, but I have to confess I found feeding in public generally difficult and fussing around tying a cushion around me only seemed to attract more attention, (or perhaps that's just how it felt to me). But "yes" it is good but pretty big to cart about with you (I have a large one). -

Princess replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We went up to Grove Vale Rhyme Time on Monday but it wasn't on due to staff shortages. They hope it will be up and running next Monday but you might want to check before setting out! -
There's a small group of us who met via this very forum a couple of months ago. We meet most Wednesday afternoons. If she would like to join us she'd be most welcome. This week is at my house please PM me for my address if she would like to come. Px

We were using pressure fit. After doing lots of research and looking at safetytots.com they seemed to be the ideal ones that looked like the solution to banister spindles and very wonky walls (an amazing 4cm wider at the top of the stairgate hole than at the bottom). However, when they didn't work in the locations we needed them too (the pressure made the banister bow at an alarming angle every time you raised the catch) we tried them in the doorways where they destroyed the bloomin' door frame. We have since passed the offending gates to a member of our NCT group whose house is clearly made of sturdier stuff than ours as they work perfectly. With our little one deciding today was the day he was going to start moving, albeit backwards, I'm aware we need to find an alternative solution quick smart!
