Hello Nikki73 Our little one has a little excema round her face and neck, so we were really pleased to find that you can get Aveeno (cream prescribed to keep excema away) with sun protection included. We bought this abroad, but hopefully you can get it on Amazon or something. Also, I don't know if there are mosquitos where you're off to, but we found that Jungle Formula Family Lotion was really gentle on the skin and definately effective (we got eaten alive as usual, whilst little one only got 1 bite). Clippasafe extra large buggy mosquito net fitted completely over our citimini even when layed flat and only cost ?5. (Sorry if this is completely off topic!)

My little one sleeps very well now (1 year old) and is also good at getting herself back to sleep if she wakes up or is feeling poorly. I'm sure this is mostly luck (as others have said) but I do think it may be partly because we were always there for her, picking her up, jiggling her about, standing on one leg at 3 in the morning etc, for the first 5 or so months when she absolutely refused to go to sleep any other way! I think she feels secure now that she won't be left in the cot in the dark indefinately. At about 6 or 7 months my husband left her to cry a couple of times, but only very briefly as she actually stopped almost immediately on us leaving the room; I think that she was just ready to be in the cot on her own at that point and that that point is different for each baby and will eventually come.

Re only getting a little milk when expressing It could still be worth doing. I only get about 1 and a half ounces each time, but doing it regularly and freezing it adds up to enough for me to go out and do a hobby one evening a week whilst the other half gives a 5 or 6 ounce evening feed.

re:Why won't they sleep- My little one has never (in 11 months) gone into her cot for a day time snooze - until 5 days ago!!! She has allowed me to put her in at 11am for the last 5 days in a row for an hour and I am on cloud nine! This morning I actually had time to do all the basic housework and then sit and drink a cup of tea!!!! Hopefully they all turn little corners gradually as they grow up.

Does anyone else get really sore, chapped hands since becoming a Mummy/Daddy? With the constant hand washing of caring for a little one, and attempting some house work too, mine are a complete state. Any suggestions?

My little one really enjoys it, but I need to make sure to get out of the pool whilst she's still enjoying it. If I wait until there is any sign of tiredness then by the time we get out and dressed it's too late! Like BizzyLizzy said just stay in maybe 15 or so minutes. Have fun...

Hello, Does anyone know of any alternative baby paracetamol products, which aren't full of E numbers and sucrose? I have not been precious about giving it to my baby, but now she has had several colds I have observed her behaviour I am pretty sure that on days when she's had regular (5 hour ish) doses all day, she acts very 'hyper' and kind of 'bouncy', usually for a half hour or so just before the next dose is due.

We're going to go to the All Saints service. Last year we went to their evening service and it was really lovely, friendly and Christmassy, so we were really pleased when we heard they had an afternoon family service.

Hello SianandTony My baby was born at 38 weeks according to the official due date (I think she was actually 36 and a half). I worked up until Thursday pm, my waters broke on Friday pm and she was here on Saturday! I would say, insist that the midwife properly examines you, including dilation, especially if you find you have some good breathing/yoga coping strategies. Mine was so convinced that as a first timer I couldn't be in labour for another 3 days and that I would be in much more obvious pain if I was, that the birth ended up being a big surprise to everyone! My 9 months plus 3 weeks little one has just got over her latest few days phase of this too! She was very upset whenever I left the room, even to do things she is really very familiar with and even when I was right next to her but she couldn't get through a safety gate between us. I tried to act as if she was ok, just carrying on with whatever conversation or activicty when I returned. Her crying gradually got less and less over a number of days and now she's back to feeling more confident on her own for a few minutes. Having said that, I don't know whether that technique helped, or if she just would have got over it anyway!

I wonder if it's more likely that a company would be sued successfully and also that damages awarded would be larger in the USA? As the product and its instructions seem to be the same in Europe and USA I can't really think of any other reason for recalling there and not here.

Hello Oakwood midwives are also attached to Forest Hill Road Surgery (opposite the Co-op on Forest Hill Road). If you are registered with the practice for your GP you can use them. Not sure if there is a limited practice area.

My GP recently told me that the dosages of Calpol are really based on weight, rather than age. So if your baby is the weight that a small healthy one year old could be (see bottom centile on growth chart in red book) they could have the one year old dose even if they are younger.

I think that the forum is here for local people to support and discuss things with eachother, rather than to encourage spying and suspicion of one another.

Thank goodness for that. My husband and I have only been out on our own once since our baby came along and we were beginning to think we wouldn't be allowed to go again!

Does anyone have any top tips for helping a baby with a horrible blocked up and runny nose? So far I'm using saline drops, to help it loosen up, and a dose of Calpol if she has trouble sleeping. I'm also encouraging her to breastfeed as much as possible, plus trying to keep her warm and lots of cuddles. Thanks for your help...

Slightly off the subject of hospital bags, but after my little one came along I wished I had taken the advice to make up some easy dinners and put them in the freezer. Alternitively you could get a load of ready meals, ready made up pastas, sandwiches, anything you can just grab and, of course, if you are breastfeeding, cakes, biscuits and more cakes!

Hello There should be bookstart at Ivydale children's centre at 1.45. It is printed in the Let's Go timetable as being Mon pm, but I turned up yesterday to be told thy have swapped it to today. Was a good experience though, as Miles who runs it showed me round the lovely new centre, sounds like they've got some nice things planned.

Good luck SianandTony, we were fine with a similar experience. When I was expecting we had very noisy downstairs neighbours, who specifically played music in the room below what was to be the nursery. I was rather worried and a bit down that I wouldn't be able to provide the lovely peaceful space I dreamt of for baby. However, like others have said, when she came along we were so out of it that we didn't notice! Also, my little one didn't notice; the only thing that really disturbed her was something like me sneezing if she was on my lap asleep. Luckily the neighbours moved out later (now we're just waiting to see turns up next!!)

I enjoyed swimming in Peckham Pulse when I was pregnant. Not to do with cleaniliness, but specifically because it has steps with handrails to get in, instead of having to brave the usual ladder.

Yesterday I went down there and they just prepared and gave me my deposit cheque without even having to even ask. Good luck to everyone now looking for alternate child care.
