  1. Does seem a very odd situation and also that it will stay a pub? Article from above post is here: https://www.morningadvertiser.co.uk/Article/2011/02/17/Exclusive-Host-turns-tables-on-Enterprise-Inns
  2. Awful, spoke to police this morning road could be closed all day.
  3. I always liked the Palmerston, although food was expensive and not somewhere to go regularly. So much competition on Lordship Lane these days. Bonne Bouffe didn't make it either. London commercial property market probably heading for its decadal plunge in to the abyss, rents and rates unsustainable.
  4. Surely the barriers couldn't be make permanent or if they were, there would still have to be an easy way to remove them? What if there is a medical emergency, police incident or Fire in the closed off area, or even at the school itself during the closure time?
  5. I don't mind people posting in favour of the CPZ. As long as they're not council stooges, or others who somehow have a vested interest, or who somehow stand to benefit from it going ahead. I would find it surprising that anyone would support this idea from the part of ED I live in. Everyone in the area with a car is going to have to pay ?125 extra at least to park. It looks like it will also reduce the amount of parking space quite considerably around Barry road, due to all the extra double yellow lines around the dropped curbs? I guess in some parts of the CPZ area it might make sense if there is nowhere to park due to commuter parking or whatever. I guess if thousands of people paying ?125 a year to park is the only way to solve that issue so be it?
  6. I walk past Bessemer grange on way to work occasionally. Seems a reasonable idea, only issue I see is if residents in the zone need to drive somewhere in the closure, be it work, shopping, hospital or whatever. Can the yellow barriers can be moved quite easily and quickly if really needed? Why did they introduce this scheme? Have kids in the borough been injured by cars outside schools?
  7. 3 cars parked on the entire length of village way this morning. No need for a cpz there, it's laughable. Cars also going a lot faster now, previously parked cars thinned the road and acted like natural traffic calming. Presumably will end up with speed bumps too eventually.
  8. How many dropped curbs are there in the CPZ area? How many extra meters of double yellow lines will be added? Is it 2m on each side of every single one, where at the moment there is parking space?
  9. No reason to have a CPZ on village way other than to displace cars and try and force more need for zones nearby. Seems to be about 3 cars parked on it when I have driven past it in last few days. As others have said probably doesn't matter what we do, the CPZ will be coming even if the vast majority of residents and businesses oppose it. Southwark want the money, they are legally able to tax us with a CPZ to park on roads we own and that is what they will do. Seems fairly certain in my area of ED there will be a lot less parking spaces available with a CPZ because Barry road will lose a lot of spaces. I fully expect it to be harder to park than it is now. I haven't counted how many spaces will go due to double yellow on all the dropped curbs but guessing 50 at least?, can see on street view here: Most of Barry road will be double yellow lines?
  10. I have just filled in the consultation on the Southwark council website: https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/eastdulwichparking/consultation/intro/ I do hope everyone is filling it in and the local shops are directing those concerned about it to fill it in as well. Hopefully they will actually pay some attention to the results. It seems to close on the 28th of February now so still plenty of time.
  11. I would have thought the biggest hit to local businesses will be from everyone in the area who owns a car or two being ?120+ lighter, or whatever the cost is? Yes it's mainly for the ?? In my part of ED no parking pressure whatsoever. Will be replying against.I guess if people want to volunterily pay what amounts to extra council tax. I'll be stumping up for a permit.

They > are shown as assets in their books. False http://www.roads.org.uk/roadsfaq#11 They may be managed by the concil and put on the balance sheet but they are owned by the public. The government which is elected by the public allows the council to manage them and do this. Quite why they're allowed to profit from doing so with a CPZ is a mystery? Maybe so the councils fat cat CEO can make 197k a year? The government could change this if they wanted to, and if they were elected to do so. The CPZ is just a tax to pay for road upkeep and other transport things that would usually be paid by council tax. It is in effect a rise in council tax for everyone owning a car.
  13. I also live off Barry road but haven't noticed much difference recently. Most dangerous thing I've seen driving on Barry road recently is near suicidal over taking of buses in to oncoming traffic. In the area I'd say Milkwood road in herne hill which has speed bumps is the worst, regularly see cars going 40+ down it and the a215.
  14. It's being done for the money. Profit from the CPZ will be spent back on road maintenance and transport reletated things which are paid by council tax at the moment. Essentially CPZ is just another tax. Unless lots of people from outside the CPZ are coming to park, like commuters at train stations, workers or people coming to shop and making it impossible for residents it's pointless. Government should change the law so profits from any CPZ have to be used to reduce residents council tax. The council does not own the roads. They should not then be able to privitise them. We as citizens / subjects own them, it's scandalous.
  15. Despite there myth busting leaflet it's obviously being done for the money. Where would the money for "transport related improvements" "highway improvements" and "school crossing patrols" come from if not from the surplus on the parking account CPZ? How are they paid for now without a CPZ? Going to ask Southwark I think.
  16. Southwark have to pay those 44 fat cats on 100k+ a year somehow! Money from controlled parking spent on transport doesn't then have to come from general budget. Renting our own streets for profit without returning money to us via council tax should be illegal.
  17. Relevant info is here I think https://www.london.gov.uk/what-we-do/environment/pollution-and-air-quality/guidance-wood-burning-stoves-london Which part of ED is this taking place in?
  18. Yikes hope no one injured. Foot stuck on the accelerator or driver incapacitated somehow maybe? Scary, walk there every day and it's a school.
  19. I park around Goodrich, Barry and Landells road multiple times a day. In the last year I've never had an issue parking. Usually I would estimate there are 10+ spaces within 5 mins walk of where I want to be. The only place in this area I've ever seen parking issues is on Lordship lane for the shops. Interested to hear if anyone on here ever has a problem parking? If so which part of the area?
  20. These people need to be paid to somehow and to do something I guess?: https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/southwark-council-answers-claims-spent-officer-salaries-uk-authority/ Very much hoping that once Momentum are done with the Tories they turn there attention to the how their own Labour councils are being run. Southwark is one of the poorest boroughs in London. Yet it seems to me the council basically exists to enrich its fatcat executives at the expense of the residents. That is despite the borough having a poverty rate of 31% and 20.5% of the workers being classed as low paid. Quite a few other boroughs are run in a similar manner. https://www.trustforlondon.org.uk/data/boroughs/southwark-poverty-and-inequality-indicators/
  21. Doing nothing is definitely an option. This country is run by cretins. Both in Westminster, City Hall and in Southwark town hall. There are no issues with parking in the area, so do nothing. It's very simple. What we've got is a bunch of beaurocrats trying to justify there 6 figure salaries and make sure the ordinary residents pay for it / them. It's a disgrace. London was better without a Mayor. Everything in the city has got worse since the early 90s. I'm certain the population will start declining again. Just as it did in the 4 decades after the war. Parking will get easier over the next decade not harder.

Looks to me like the council can spend the money raised on quite a few transport related things. If they don't get the money from a CPZ presumably it has to come out of the general budget raised from our council tax? H&F Make about a ?23m a year surplus out of parking controls for example: https://www.lbhf.gov.uk/sites/default/files/section_attachments/lbhf_annual_parking_report_-_v1.0.pdf ?9.6m goes on concessionary fares, if they didn't get the money from the CPZ where would it come from? Where would the ?10.9m money for highways maintenance etc come from if they didn't have a CPZ? If Southwark are going to introduce a CPZ surely they could then use the money raised to pay for concessionary fares & highway maintenance which is funded how at the moment? If the spending on highway maintenance etc is coming from our general council tax then surely Southwark could take the budget freed up and reduce all our council tax? Effectively make the CPZ free and possibly even saving us all money. In that case sounds good to me.
  23. Revenue raising excercise, no surprise: https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/southwark-council-answers-claims-spent-officer-salaries-uk-authority/ Money needs come from somewhere. That will be us the residents. Wondering if people even receive the letter given the state of the postal service.
  24. Best bet is just not to use any company that deliver via royal mail where you could have to collect a package, or if you have to get it delivered to a work address. Usually there is an alternative. That is what I plan to do.
  25. My god it just gets worse. Which end of crystal palace rosd and when was this? Hope they're ok.
