What are the peak hours Townley road will be closed for ?
-
Irresponsible, illegal (?) public events
mrwb replied to slarti b's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Really? Doesn't look any different to people in the park or on the beach. I would say the road closure is absolutely ridiculous though. Going to be total gridlock from September. -
The forecasts look entirely deluded to me. The economy hasn't been hit much yet because the government is paying 9.5,m people to do nothing. Ending the scheme suddenly will not end well. Need to get these people working though somehow. Gov should employ them to do something productive and end the scheme once we have a solution. Key is how we deal with sars cov 2, there doesn't seem to be any endgame in sight. Could go on for years. I wouldn't be surprised if the UK and global economy general are smaller in 5 years than they were in January
-
Presumably because it's a slippery slope rather than any direct effect for most people. I would say we've got away with lack of any police or police stations for the last few years because the general economic situation has been ok. If we get much higher unemployment (9.5m on furlough at the moment) and people get more desperate, once it becomes clear the police aren't there to enforce and stop shoplifting or any other petty crime, things will escalate and then probably get seriously ugly. Riots and looting, probably huge spike in violent muggings, assaults and worse. The 70s and 80s were a much tougher time economically as well and had much higher rates of crime as well, though London had the Police infrastructure to deal with it then. If politicians think it's not their problem, they're going to be in for a rather nasty surprise I think... dontbesilly Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Co-op on Lordship lane absolutely have CCTV, there > is sporadic announcements advising that Mitie (an > external security company) are constantly > monitoring the system, and in addition there is 1 > and sometimes 2 security guards in the shop. > > Can i just check why anyone would actually care if > people nick a few bits from a major supermarket > retailer? it has no effect on you whatsoever, why > waste your time worrying about it? I've seen similar in herne hill recently. Police just arnt interested ? Cutting police and closing almost all the stations a very bad idea and now will all need be reversed.

Does it really matter? Even if on a Monday the first weekend would just see a surge anyway. I'm more concerned with the winter, this time of year can drink and eat outside where there is little to no virus transmission. As soon as we get to the cold dark part of the year I don't see how anyone expects this virus to stay contained. Similar to cold and flu season, there is no way to stop viruses that spread so aggressively indoors.

These traffic problems will self solve in a few years as people leave. London's becoming a seriously unpleasant place to live. With all the traffic, crime and being charged endlessly for what was free before. The ongoing Covid 19 situation and it's huge economic impact will be the catalyst. Likely to see a long period of depopulate as last happened after the prior peak in 1939, that continued till it troughed in about 1990. It's a cycle and current one already peaked.

Twitter itself needs to be uninvented. It's an absolutely awful method of communication. Very much become a big part of what has gone so terribly wrong with our civilization.

Shops and restaurants that will not reopen after lockdown

Shame, they did great breakfasts. Herne hill has hit cafe saturation point I think, as has ED. We already saw Brick house and Anetto (temporarily) go, the latter actually reopened and stayed open right through. Only place could get decent coffee. Saucy, the other Bakery and KFC place already went before covid 19 as well. -
Seems the people cleaning Dulwich park are struggling to cope. Not surprisingly given it's the only place to go outside for a lot of us. Seems to be one guy doing it alone this morning. What can be done to help?

There are different strains of the virus, some deadlier than others. Population density and the health of the population matters. Obesity, smoking and underlying health conditions are important re mortality rates. Most importantly, this will run, sars cov 2 isn't going anywhere. Let's see the position in a few years time. Wouldn't be surprised to see convergence of all countries.

Like influenza it'll likely never be under complete control. The only way is with an all encompassing vaccine, that might never exist though. Sainsbury's on lordship lane back to normal stock except washing up liquid now. Seems they've got mountains of unsold Easter chocs to sell as well!
-
Stock in small Sainsbury's on lordship lane had most normal stock I've seen in weeks today. Now if everyone just shop normally! It'll stay like that. Stop hoarding people!
-
Queues can look absolutely huge due to 2m spacing. If people arn't dallying doing their shopping shouldn't take to long to get in the shop. Great to hear that

How long can panic buying continue for? Surely the stupidest part of this whole crisis. If everyone just shopped normally, the problem wouldn't even exist!!!

List of cafes / restaurants now doing delivery or take away
mrwb replied to Jakido's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
They lose less money closing than just doing delivery, same as some other chains. A lot of these businesses have pretty significant debts to manage as well. -
Shops staying open in the lockdown when they shouldn't.
mrwb replied to Freddo's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
No different to a supermarket or small food shop, still selling food. They should enforce distancing and that's it. Bakery / Butcher also open in Herne Hill. -
Hopefully it stays like that. London has thinned out. Lots of people have left if they can to isolate in the countryside. So that should reduce the pressure on shops. If everyone shops normally no problems.

Get a grip people...

Sad news, didn't even go yet. Probably evidence it was burger joint saturation on the lane too. With GBK, Meat Liquor and the pubs too. A lot of competition.

What do ED'ers pay for house contents insurance ?

This is true for most services these days. They offer much better prices to new business, if you just renew blindly they increase the cost every year.
