Car accidents upper Lordship (Saturday night (25/1/20))
mrwb replied to TreforL's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I live in that area, personally avoid driving out of Goodrich on to lordship lane because lines of sight not good and cars fly up and down the hill. -
Sad news. More evidence ED hit peak coffee places and shake out has begun.

Exactly this... All about generating revenue, the annual parking fee (and fines) from car owning residents, instead of increasing general council tax. Southwark will be 100% CPZ soon. -
Brick House Bread announced they aren't reopening

Wondering if we've hit peak cafe and Bakery in the area. I was amazed by how many opened up all over the place in the last 5 years or so. -
That I think?

Crown and Greyhound is still m&b? Trust them to run staff in to the ground...? Hopefully staff at least get decent recompense for slogging Christmas day?

Do any local seller do a tree like this:? https://www.amazon.co.uk/GardenersDream-Nordmann-Grown-Christmas-Tree/dp/B07ZZH7DWK/ref=asc_df_B07ZZH7DWK/?tag=&linkCode=df0&hvadid=399666076754&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=414691623115009244&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045890&hvtargid=pla-842704733999&ref=&adgrpid=84809710723&th=1 Potted so can be planted after Christmas and then re-used? Only 2ft, to start with, but presumably will get bigger every year. -

Cromwell did that already? Bring back the puritans?

rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ...For those who would like to see a driver owned > Uber alernative: > https://neweconomics.org/2017/05/cabfair This is good. Google maps has an API, how difficult could it be to build a taxi app on top of it really? It's the marketing that would be harder. They even suggest ride sharing on the API info page. If Uber does get shut down hopefully a rider / driver owned app will come about instead.

For me an "Uber" like system is the way forward for all Taxis. No reason it has to actually be run by the Uber corporation though. Personally think we're decades away from driver-less cars in a city as complicated to navigate as London. Too many unexpected things happen on the roads for computer driven car to be safe anytime before that. The Uber app itself is really very simple. Don't see why TFL or the drivers themselves if they joined forces couldn't simply copy what Uber are doing right now with a better App. Give all the money ex expenses to the drivers? All the drivers use Google Maps / Waze to navigate anyway.
-
Uber very safe imo. You actually know who's car you're getting in to, have a digital trail for the entire journey, full tracking and the rest. I don't like them taking 20% off the drivers though. No reason drivers themselves couldn't create a co-op taxi app and keep almost the entire fare. Taxi app should be pretty simple. It's the regulatory stuff that's bit more complicated. I see getting in to some random black can as far more risky.

3 guys looking to break into cars, Sunday night

Cast your vote wisely? Who closed almost all the police stations and cut numbers to the bone? From what I can see the police no longer even bother with petty theft? None of the parties are offering anything particularly credible. Depressing times. -

Justice in the 21st century is great, isn't it? Who needs due process anyway? I'm sure he's an idiot, is that a crime? Not seeing a story myself. Maybe being used to distract from other things going on?
-
What is the story? He was friends with dodgy guy Epstein? Any evidence he's done anything wrong? What is the problem exactly. If there is deal with it via due process. If not then not sure why anyone gives, total non story.

Need a new police station?

Codefellas on bellenden road is very good

What about battery chickens? Shouldn't we ban KFC and similar as well? https://www.peta.org/issues/animals-used-for-food/factory-farming/chickens/egg-industry/ EU has slightly tougher rules. Doesn't make much difference though.

Possible the compromise is from within the bank... Not unheard of at all.

edcam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I would imagine after what happened they'll now > the be the safest planes to fly in. Why would > they take any chances? Obviously they didn't mean to take a chance in the first place. My view is they should have written the entire line off. Sticking modern much bigger engines on a 40 odd year old airframe design was a massive mistake. Done purely for $$ as they didn't want Airbus eating their lunch. Would have taken years to certify a new type. Ultimately there is a design flaw with the Max. It'll always pitch up and potentially stall due to new engines. Remains to be seen if the problem is fixable at all. Or if there will always be an unacceptably high stall or MCAS plunge risk. When you look at af447, some new pilots don't understand the basics of stalls. Getting the computer automation and human pilots working together properly is not easy. Which is why I'll be waiting until the fixed Maxes gave done 1000s of cycles to check it's actually fixed properly.
-
I wouldn't go near one till they've done 1000s of cycles to confirm problem fixed. Stall or MCAS plunge risk too high, all caused by position of new more fuel efficient engines... 737 NG and A320/1 (Neo) both tried and tested alternatives. I'll be dodging any airlines using the max for a couple of years at least...

Pizza wars are intensifying: Franco Manca now offering loyalty card via phone app with 7th free I think. Voodoo Rays do deals early week I think (Monday?), Have to think pizza places at saturation point in the area.
-
Guessing pizza market saturation, along with very high rates and rent etc. Plus the economic cycle. Sad times, I liked it to.

tiddles Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > hmmm not exactly surprised - they are desperate to > do the whole area....no matter what the people who > live here (and pay the council tax) want. Point is it's just a stealth council tax increase for car owners... Money from it can be used for road related things instead of out of the general budget. Despite UK taxpayers already owning the roads.... It's a scandal, if the council want to charge us for parking on our own roads, they should refund any profit against our council tax. If the cpz is for legitimate parking reasons why not refund the profit to us?
