  3. Well I'm not sure about that, but they should be closely monitored to justify the appropriate use and protect other athletes from the benefits of one athlete's excessive use, where the relevant drug has absolutely proven performance benefits as in this case.

  5. Yes - and speaking as an asthmatic who carries a ventolin inhaler and is required to take a steroid inhaler too, I find it surprising that Wiggins is taking what he is taking - this doctor says his injections are what he would expect for serious uncontrollable asthma symptons ; "Wiggins himself in his autobiography said he had only ever received an injection for an immunisation and some drips. You are not likely to forget an intramuscular injection before every major Grand Tour that you have competed in for the win. The second aspect is that Triamcinolone acetonide is used to control severe asthma or other allergies that are unresponsive to other forms of treatments. It is not a first-line therapy and it certainly wouldn?t be something that I would be comfortable giving to a rider as a preventative medicine. So one of two things is going on: either they have prescribed it as a preventative medicine, which doesn?t sit well with me, or he had such serious symptoms that they were completely uncontrollable, and that just happened to happen coincidentally a couple of days before he contested a Grand Tour. And at different times of the season, because the Giro isn?t anywhere near pollen season and nobody suffers from dramatic allergies in the Giro. "

  7. The Scottish Football Association and the Gambling Commission are understood to be looking into claims the ex-United man, now of Rangers, placed a bet on Old Firm rivals Celtic to be heavily beaten by Barcelona last Tuesday. The Hoops lost the Champions League clash 7-0 in the Nou Camp. The SFA has a strict no-betting policy on football games and if found guilty Barton could face a ban. Barton is unlikely to face a major punishment if the alleged gambling was restricted to one incident. But a potential SFA charge will leave Barton even more vulnerable after his club suspension cast major doubt on whether he would play for Rangers again.

You shouldn't take on the manager, especially one who is himself under pressure. It's unfortunate to be honest. I think he will play again for Rangers. He's had his wings clipped and it depends how he reacts. I'd assume he isn't able to make any comment at all for the 3 weeks and he'll be ok, if that's what he wants.
  9. What Joey did next One source said: ?Barton told some home truths and not all of the boys reacted well. One of them pointed out to Joey that they hardly lost a game last season and had been doing fine without him. ?Barton responded by saying they were playing against s*** teams in a s*** league. But he lost the plot when one of the boys said they managed to beat Celtic last season without him too - and that he hardly got a kick against them at the weekend. ?It was all getting very heated but when Warburton tried to calm it down Barton went head-to-head with him too.

  13. I posted about the overuse of medicines. Very different from outright cheating but worthy of debate, although as its a British athlete it may not be debated.

  16. Careful Mick.....as ???? said to me four years ago. The lady on Newsnight representing Sporting Integrity said tonight: What we might be talking about here is the overuse of medicines and the correlation with suddenly becoming an elite athlete. She was speaking in general rather than specific to Bradley Wiggins.

  24. I still love Roy Keane Speaking on last night?s Champions League Highlights show the former Celt said: ?They need to do a lot better in Europe. Easier said than done, of course. ?But even in qualifying, they were poor. They scraped through. ?The whole mindset has to change. Don?t accept, especially away from home, being the whipping boys of Europe. ?It?s Celtic, a huge club.? Keane, Martin O?Neill?s international assistant who spent six months at the club in 2006, added: ?When they qualified for the group, the celebrations, for me, were way over the top. ?I actually thought they?d won the competition! People were hugging each other, the manager, the coaches, the players. ?It?s not Altrincham, it?s Celtic!?
  25. Celtic Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup Final 1937 of 146k is the european club match record. Celtic Leeds 1970 European Cup Semi final is the biggest crowd ever for a European club match. 136k
