Its funny how many people say they like the CPT, however do not go back there very often. Lets hope it picks up in summer with the seating area outside and the bbq. I used to go there when I first moved to ED but now there is more choice on LL it does not really enter my radar.

Woodie - why would you have 8 kids with you? are you a mum or a nanny or a childminder. 8 kids is too much for anyone to look after surely?. ED is generally really good for kids and parents but only if parents work really hard to make sure our children behave when out, otherwise non parents rightly will get annoyed.

...bet ?10 @ 40/1 on Porto to win the champions league (whatever year that was) from the start of the tournament. I've had more lucrative bets but that's the longest odds bet I've won on. Picked them on the basis of their uefa cup win over Celtic the previous year. -

Thats correct Jeremy, but Peter Luger's was in Brooklyn and we had already been out in brooklyn the night before and therefore wanted to go local. Wolfgangs is in Donald Trumps top 5 restaurants in NY so not too shabby, but yes Peter Luger has the long standing reputation. Sean - these US versions were huge - and only on the menu for 2 or 3 people sharing. We asked what was the best steak they had and they said it had to be the porterhouse, but don't seem to see it on the restaurant menus here. -

Doubt very much I'll be able to relplicate the standard it was cooked to in NY though, but I'll give it a go. It recall it was a huge steak and only available for 2 people sharing! -

Best steak for me is easy - Porterhouse steak, Wolfgangs restaurant New York, best by a long way - served with the bone. About an inch deep, charred a little on the outside and rare on the inside. Don't know what porterhouse steak is referred to here - may be t bone? Second to that is most steak in France, cooked rare, always seems to be good, but I'll always remember the New York one as being the best. -
Um - Mikado biscuits - you know I did not realise these were Irish DM - therefore have just realised I have not seen them for the duration of my 20 years on "the mainland". Thought they had just stopped making them. I thought it was Kings crisps in the south and Tayto in the north, is that right or is that an urban myth.

AnotherPaul Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I hate him in the following ways: > ? putting money in tax havens while telling > everyone to help the poor Yep Paul - I made this point early in the thread and I think its the height of hypocrisy. I have always liked U2 as a band and don't object to good tax planning at all but when you pay a lower rate of tax than the man in the street then don't tell normal people to contribute more money. I recognise he implores governments to change tactics, but hes just trying to be the next Bob Geldof but its been done before.

My thoughts too Declan - don't have a real idea as to what will happen. To inspire confidence I will have a small bet on Ireland to win by 6-10 points. I think with a good start we can do it. Here's hoping.

Excellent - the aussies/kiwis do sports bars very well. Look forward to visiting, good luck for the opening.

No to McDonalds - they bribe kids and I'm sure their food is addictive, because it tastes crap to me, so probably not addicted yet. KFC on the other hand ... I love it.

Big Phil Thats great news - have really missed the Magdela for the rugby - were you guys involved in that?

Have had my 2 pints of Guiness - made it back to work without temptation to stay out all afternoon and risk losing job, house, family etc, thats more self discipline than I normally muster on St Patricks day so am feeling rightly proud of self. Will buy a couple of cans of guinness on the way home to quieltly savour in front of tv, a quiet St Patricks Day.

Oh I see. I just assume everyone on the forum is younger than me. That's good going Jah - that's really good going.
-
Cheers Tony - if you keep adding ?1 to my bill each time, yes, you will get me to ?200 eventually.
-
Actually TLS - it was not per head it was between 5 of us - me and my 4 alter egos - does not seem so expensive now.
-
Happy St Patricks to you too Hillside. Mulligans of Mayfair is the place to be at lunchtime today!
-
TLS - Isn't it more surprising that people can do a similar amount of money on a night out drinking in west in bars though. At least I get a decent culinary experience for my money. Fellow forumite Jah spent ?400 on a weekend, just enjoying himself presumably, thats what young people do.
-
It was the tasting menu at Lindsay House - I knew we would top the ?100 mark as once a year we go out and it always does - but although the tasting menu came with wine, one friend thought the restaurant selection was not right for one of the courses !! - hence we bought more wine. The tasting menu with selected wine, one half glass per course, was ?117, before other wine and brandy, coffee etc. I was not too surprised at the final bill, but we will probably do something a little less expensive next year. The point I was making is that young people seem to be able to do that amount of money on a night out drinking these days, which amazes me, thats where I feel may age, as a homeowner you tend to have to budget for these big nights out, but I guess I've had my time....

Jah Lush Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Indeed! I feel my age - at 41 - when I'm out with younger mates and they talk of spending ?100-?200 on a night out which seems to be a regular occurance for them. I can get completely shitfaced for ?50. Maybe ?100+ per night is normal for people without mortgage and kids. Having said that I, with some friends, spent ?175 each on a meal just before christmas - I guess thats the grown up way to blow a load of money. And even then I was still hungry and had a cornish pasty on the way home. But then it was christmas.

Any house on Eynella Road would be good for me. Even walking past them is nice.
