  1. We have a baby and 4 yr old and just booked a Court Farm holiday... [https://www.courtfarm-holidays.co.uk] Padstow is nice but quite small, we went there pre babies... Falmouth is great as are Newquay and Bude with kids, seaside and other activities. Have a nice trip!
  2. Thanks everyone :) some great suggestions... ended up booking a Court Farm holiday near Bude, excellent reviews so let's hope it's a great holiday (obviously cannot predict the weather!). If anyone wants to check them out their website is [www.courtfarm-holidays.co.uk] I also found ownersdirect website really useful
  3. Artastic do some great holiday sessions... Search Clubtastic
  4. Ideas gratefully appreciated as I'm losing the will to live searching online... Most cottages booked up and hotels extortionate. We have a 4 yr old and 3 month old baby so basically want a cottage or B&B near the seaside and with attractions to keep toddler happy. Thanks everyone :)
  5. I love the Saturday market, would be a real shame if people stopped visiting / stallholders gave up on it...
  6. Is it me or is North Cross road market shrinking / less busy these days? Sad to see, as some fab stalls - the food (all of it!), popcorn, new arts & crafts stall for kids, clothing... Need the market to get bigger and have more visitors, hopefully it is just a slow patch, would be good to see it as popular as it has been to date!
  7. I've just booked a few days with Artastic - www.club-tastic.co.uk you could also check out Theatrebugs, Perform and Stagecoach but they're mainly in august...
  8. I can also recommend Ari and Eos Dance, have had a few friends with daughters taught by her who have sung her praises and I've done adult ballet with her in the past (tho that was short lived) :)
  9. Giving this a bump as worthwhile cause
  10. Sounds great :) maybe you could join forces with the lovely Hannah of the Art Market (North cross rd) who sells arts and crafts stuff...
  11. They all collect them :)
  12. I think he will grow out of it, my friend's now 6 yr old was always like that but is now facing fears (e.g. Playground equipment that is very high up, confrontational kids and so on) and growing in confidence... I was always a shy child but grew out of it eventually. Nothing you can do other than let him develop in his own time I'd say, my dad (extrovert) tried to boost my confidence continually but it had the opposite effect so I would definitely try not to worry or be too pushy. Best wishes :)
  13. I've always found Maxi Cosi very good - affordable, comfortable, safe
  14. Deadline nearly here!
  15. Carters steam fair is at peckham rye this weekend and then Bel Air park 14 & 15 June Competition to win tickets at www.liveloveloval.net events page :)
  16. Sheer Class is another bargain hairdressers (Evelina road in nunhead)...
  17. I agree with Pickle - they look cute but more of a hassle, just use a larger suitcase for your kids stuff and save the money :)
  18. I have 2 friends who had their first (and one of them her second when she was 45) in their forties... plus 2 aunties. All healthy women, some had complications but the babies (and now children in most cases) were perfectly healthy and where there could have been a risky labour they had a c-section. Good luck whatever you decide x
  19. Try different teats - some have long ones other short/flatter... I would also say get someone else to do it as baby can smell milk on you so bound to want the real thing :)
  20. thanks everyone, v.useful info!
  21. My son was a bit afraid but now he has done a few swimming lessons (in a group - so he could see everyone else doing it and follow) he now loves it, comes out full of beans telling me what he did and saying how great it was. He goes to Dulwich pool but I have heard equally good things about Peckham and Camberwell group lessons. I think JAGS might do private lessons and they offer free trials now and again, so you could test the water so to speak! :) Hope she likes it...
  22. Thanks everyone - she isn't too frail yet thankfully (despite being in her late 80s) so it's more a question of her being lonely and starting with dementia (they have removed her hob for example, as she kept forgetting it was turned on). She lives in Somerset which is a big part of the problem, tho she is keen to move closer to us and other relatives in London so I am starting to do some research. If I thought childcare was a minefield it seems to have nothing on housing for the elderly!! Unfortunately her social worker is not the best person to deal with (straight line thinker so dsnt really explain the options and panics a great deal which is very unhelpful as I am limited in what I can do right now owing to young baby). I will definitely try some of your helpful suggestions, much appreciated. I have heard AgeUK are pretty amazing.
  23. I'm looking forward to the new Spanish deli on North Cross road and was glad to see Pretty's fruit n veg stall this morning :) I like a good mix, Oliver Bonas has some nice gift things and cafe Nero has great staff and lots of buggy space which is very handy for mums... My fave new addition is the Mary Portas Save the Children clothes shop which has lovely stuff and helps a worthy cause when you buy :) For those that are wanting to shop locally and encourage local businesses (don't we all?) check out free loyalty card scheme [http://www.livelovelocal.net] has loads of discounts and deals, inc Lordship Lane carpets and the therapies at Goose Green clinic (everything from acupuncture to counselling and cranial sacral massage)...
