  1. I'd say try earlier routine or bit later - one should hopefully work... I think they all go through phases, particularly where they are more alert and questionning (not a bad thing tho poor you I know what having no eve is like!!). I tried sticker charts to improve behaviour but found he just expected stickers for pretty much everything after a while, so stopped that. My 4 yr old sometimes plays up at bedtime ("I'm hungry, I'm not tired, can I play for a little while?") but if you're firm and keep to your routine your son will learn he has to go to bed and sleep, otherwise he will be mega tired each morning... Excellent book which will make you smile if nothing else is 'Nighty Night' by Colin McNaughton http://books.google.co.uk/books/about/Nighty_Night.html?id=W0n1AAAACAAJ&redir_esc=y Good luck!
  2. I am totally new to this but starting to research possible options for a relative. Does anyone know of or could recommend local care homes or sheltered accommodation in the Dulwich area? I know of Lew Evans House and Abbeyfield but want to look at as many as possible, especially given recent documentaries on poor care. Many thanks.
  3. is there a meet up next week? thanks

  5. there are lots...if you PM me i will e-mail you a list :) (would do it now but list in bag in room where baby asleep and am anxious not to wake him!!) x
  6. Seconded - Lorraine is lovely, very patient and good natured, as well as being a superb pianist and harpsichordist with a real love of and passion for music :)
  7. I go to Nicola at Dulwich dental clinic by the post office in ED on Lordship lane and also take my 4 yr old... She's lovely and relaxed, smiley and patient. He gets a sticker after the visit and always behaves for her, would highly recommend :)
  8. Paula is indeed lovely and they offer babysitting as well as temp and emergency childcare :)
  9. There's also a football session each Saturday morning at ED community centre :)
  10. Will try and pop along :)
  11. Darn missed the meet up again... I was wondering about a picnic on Goose Green, Horniman gardens or Peckham Rye in a few weeks if the weather stays pretty nice. Thoughts??
  12. Someone, anyone... Please could an entrepreneur open an affordable bed and breakfast or hotel! I'm amazed nobody has done this, I know we have Lilac Door (lovely but pricey) or at the other extreme ED hotel which I'm tempted to graffiti an "s" after the "o" on the sign ;) We are getting new schools, hopefully a cinema, soft play... Now all this area needs is more places to stay
  13. New post on Twitter by @madame_claude: 'Save pretty's fruit n veg... Email landlords Chris or rod @evanspearson.co.uk' Would be a real loss if they closed. Overheard chat re poss relocation but at mo unlikely owing to extortionate rent/leases - e.g. Haus of Wood premises c.?48k. Unrealistic for most small businesses, sadly landlords getting greedy resulting in empty premises such as former 'Scooped' on Melbourne Grove nr ED station :(
  14. Grenglish is great - local mum, married to a Greek guy :)
  15. My husband had terrible experience Saturday at Peckham, rude cashier/saleswoman said his card had been declined (he'd used it in a shop 5 mins beforehand) and gave him no option to try another card, just refused to serve him - with my 3 yr old in tears. Bizarre behaviour and hopefully one off but would recommend heading to Brixton.
  16. Is Thomas More hall going to have a soft play place? *read another thread and adding 2+2 to make 15* :)
  17. The Plough nr Dulwich library is great, had indoor and outdoor space and the food (we had do after baptism) is really good and affordable :) Would also recommend Lucy Sparkles
  18. Would love any recommendations or tips for family holiday summer this year, with 4 yr old and new baby. Open to idea of farm / beach holiday but seems so much choice it's impossible to know where to start. Help :)
  19. I read quite a bit but research didn't seem to be conclusive and as there wasn't a separate measles vaccine available (and obviously measles can be nasty and cause deafness amongst other things) we opted for our son to have the MMR. Definitely a very personal choice. Best of luck deciding.
  20. I found Colief amazing, plus not full of nasty artificial sweeteners like Infacol (which doctors recommended twice before helpful stranger advised about Colief). I just mixed it with the formula like those above, didn't read about waiting but remember it was a bit of a hassle. All worth it though, totally cured baby's wind pains. Good luck x
  21. Thanks everyone and those who have PMd me :) it was actually my mum who got me worrying to start with (quite often the way!) so now have thought about it is more psychological fear than actual problem when it comes to it. I do have nice friends nearby so am sure will be fine *everything crossed*
  22. Try the fab new Mary Portas save the children shop on Lordship Lane and the St Christopher's charity shops, well worth a look :)
