OK I'm starting to panic about the summer hols..
crystal7 replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Brockwell and Burgess parks are both great. There's also another playground in Camberwell, off Camberwell Church Street after Camberwell Grove but before the South London Gallery. Sorry to be vague but I walked past it ages ago and thought it looked great! Some EDF meet ups over the summer hols would be great! -
Thoughts from those who weaned early...
crystal7 replied to jennyh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
That's a good point SG88. My daughter started off on a mix of purees and finger food but soon rejected feeding. I returned to work when she was 11 months old and left her with a childminder. By then though she was able to eat chopped up food with her fingers such as spaghetti bolognaise and they had sandwiches, crudites etc for lunch a lot anyway. I'm not sure how it would have worked had she been there for the start of BLW. Childminder is excellent but it's messy and would have been time consuming if the other children in her care were being spoonfed. Going back to Yak's question, I mixed the 2 approaches from 6 months with no problem at all and as I said above E wasn't keen on spoonfeeding anyway (apart from youghurt!). ALthough never bothered with baby rice, went straight to fruit/veg. -
I think it depends on the team of mws you use and what their caseload is like. I'm with Oakwood and this time had my booking in appointment at 11 weeks so a week before my scan. Last time i didn't have it until 17 weeks though. In both my pregnancy s Kings have been been very quick at sending me a scan date- or it could just be my gp was quick to refer me. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Advice on flexible childcare for freelance mum

I thought it was 3 under 3 for CMs (only 1 can be under 1) and over 3 depends on size of premises, hours they are there etc. Could be wrong though... -

I'm 23 weeks pregant with my 2nd and have been experiencing pain/pressure in the pelvic area and hips. At the moment it's only really painful at night (so not getting much sleep) but googling (I know, I know) suggests that if I don't get treatment early it could escalate. I'm a bit paranoid about ending up on crutches with a toddler etc...My midwife has referred me to the physio team at Kings but doesn't know how long it will take so may go to my GP for a letter and go through BUPA. Just wondered if anyone has any tips on coping with this sort of pain, especially at night? Thanks!

CP is awful for buggies as is P Rye, must admit though people usually offer to help...

Check out www.lushmummy.co.uk. They're based in East Dulwich and will drop off your order or you can pick it up. They have some lovel dresses, all unsized and suitable for post pregnancy too, some even have discreet breastfeeding openings. I'm really happy with mine! I have a Topshop Maternity Dress you're welcome to borrow, I only wore it once to a wedding last time I was pregnant. It's a pink, floral pattern, size 10.

When do they drop the morning nap?
crystal7 replied to jollybaby's topic in The Family Room Discussion
E was about 19 months, very late. She was (and still is mostly) a very early riser (5.30 is normal) so she really needed it. Even now she will sometimes fall asleep at 10 given half the chance. -

Full-time stay at home mum's - a dying breed?

Then, of course, go back to > teaching when your littler one is 4/5. (4 or 5, > not 0.8 I mean ;-)) I have thought of this! At the moment our place is too small for c/minding but we're planning to move soon after baby 2 arrives so you never know... -
Yes good childminders are like gold dust! I've had 2 amazing ones, found on this forum. It was difficult to find someone to work on Fridays I seem to remeber and I work Weds-Fri. We pay ?50 (8-6 although I collect at 5) per day which I think is average (?). I think it's a really good option as during the day there will probably be only 1 or 2 other children there so it's like a little family, more after school usually. I suppose one of the downsides would be if CM is ill you need to take a day off work unless you've got some sort of back up but I can honestly say that has never happened to us. It's finding the right person in the right location that's tricky. Good luck!

I have several friends who use the Tripp Trapp on carpeted areas not sure what the problem would be- or am I being thick?! They really are great chairs!

snowboarder Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- They didn't > mention at school when they were telling us we > could run the country if we wanted that part time > would be tricky.... Ha! Very true or that it's very hard to run to country when you've got to be back for pick up at 5! I work 3 days per week which I know in some ways I'm lucky to do but the juggling is hard. I feel guilty leaving E (though she loves her CM now) and guilty at work that I'm not putting in the hours my colleagues do, plus the pick ups and drop offs are are a pain especially now pregnant. I feel envious of you SAHMs sometimes but it's incredibly hard and tiring work and lots of my friends who work part time say their days in work are a break (I'm a teacher so I don't share that view!) Not sure what we'll do after baby 2 arrives, it cetainly wont make financial sense for me to return to work initially but I'd worry about finding part time hours in a new job... -
I know of a few primary schools in Southwark that use first names for all staff, I teach in one of them. To me it doesn't feel any different from working in school that uses Mr/Mrs (which I have also done).

Best nurseries for an almost 2 y/o.
crystal7 replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think I am looking for nurseries that fit the two bills as described above by Fuschia! I would like E to start nursery when she's 3 or near enough (her birthday's in February). At this time I will be on maternity leave (due in Oct). Not yet sure when/for how mnay days or even if I'll go back to work so would like her to initially do am or pm sessions at a nursery but with the option of using it as childcare when/if I go back to work. Mornings are tight for us as I have to be in work 8.30 at the latest so no time to travel in the opposite direction from work. We live on Crystal Palace Road and I work in Camberwell. So far I have put her name down at Gumboots but I don't have much hope as it's very oversubscribed. Was also planning on contacting Camberwell Grove Nursery/Early Yrs Centre. Any other ideas?! Thanks! -

Clary sage oil in bath and on bump (mix with bio oil or similar) if you can bear the smell. Lots of walking and sex as last resort... -
Megano I feel for you! I've suffered terribly with morning sickness (nausea and being sick lots) this pregnancy and last. I'm now 18 weeks and I think it's gone *touch wood* which is about when it passed last time. However like ae I start to feel sick if tired or hungry. Very hard to prevent tiredness with toddler around though! On a more positive note once morning/noon/night sickness was over in my first preg I felt great and continued to do so until the end. Not started feeling great this time yet though...
