http://www.dcsf.gov.uk/schoolorg/guidance.cfm?id=25 "The process for open Academies wishing to make changes to their provision is different from that to be followed by maintained schools... Where the Academy's governing body/Trust is considering making a change e.g. enlargement, change of age range (including adding or removing Sixth form or nursery provision), single sex to co-ed etc., they should raise the proposal with their Academy Lead Officer in the YPLA "

The local LA doesn't have a say in the nature of academies and I doubt there is a simple procedure to change a boys only secondary school into a 6th form and make a girls school coed (deeply unpopular with parents as a rule) but in any case it would be Harris you would need to lobby. Local admissions fora are to be abolished http://www.localschoolsnetwork.org.uk/2011/03/2869/ But changing the age range and single gende rnature of a school is major change and not the business of an admissions forum anyway

Successful appeals at Kingsdale School
Fuschia replied to Worrywart's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Did you already provide "Evidence provided of particular psychological, medical or social needs should explain why Kingsdale Foundation School is the most suitable to meet the needs and the difficulties that would arise were the child to have to attend a different school. This evidence must be substantiated by relevant qualified professionals eg a child or educational psychologist, a child psychiatrist, a general practitioner, an orthopaedic consultant or social worker." -

WW: I think I found your posting on mumsnet. Did you put the SEN reasons down originally on the application? Shame you can't meet "children with a Statement of Special Educational Need that names the School in accordance with the Code of Practice," (Unless he has a statement? Would have been very useful) but you do have a chance at "Where professional evidence indicates that there are particular psychological, medical or social needs which the school?s Learning Support Faculty agrees can best be addressed at the school" Only it's the school who have to agree that your son's needs can be met there, rather than your view or that of outside professionals. What evidence did you provide initially, do you know if the school didn't agree his needs could best be addressed by Kingsdale, and why not? I would definitely focus on that point. -

Successful appeals at Kingsdale School
Fuschia replied to Worrywart's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I used to represent an LA at school admissions appeals at one time. I think the success rate was about 1 in 20. I doubt it has changed much... You should be able to find out the stats from Kingsdale. -
Lay an old stair carpe/runner t over it?

Well past one all my (still bf) children fed more often than that and probably as much in quantity. Up to 32oz is recommended for under 1s. I would try not to stress too much, never serves a purpose. If he has iron rich foods as far from the milk as possible (milk with meals reduces iron absorption, vit C with meals increases it) then you'll be doing your best. Maybe keep trying to reduce the amount bit by bit... or a change of routine so he doesn't look for the milk at a particular time. I'd guess that bottle at 3.30 is affecting his eating at dinner time. I doubt you will get mnuch further through the year without it changing. Is he walking? Bet if you start getting him outside in the afternoons over the Summer he will lose interest a bit. Perhaps get him a new cup with a straw and give him water with an ice cube in, whne it gets warmer. Something else for him to get excited about.

THis is cows milk rather than formula or breastmilk?
-
Not sure you worrying about it will make much difference. Does he have the milk from a bottle? I think TOO much milk can affect iron levels but I'm sure his consumption will drop in time. Perhaps for daytime milk you could water it down? When does he have this milk.. before naps, at meal times, constant small drinks? Does he drink water too?

The government decides if a new school is needed. Any such new school under the cxurrent system will be a free school or academy, deciding its own admission arrangements. More fragmentation. Any chance of a rational, coordinated set of admissions policies across the area died a death with the birth of the academy and the end of the LA's control. Supporting more free schools ("in our area") will just make the problem worse and hive off money from existing schools including primnary. Cynical, moi?!
