Changing midwifery practices: 21wks in
Fuschia replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
You are very unlikely to get in with any other Community Midwife Practice. However I would recommend speaking to Jill Demilew at kings who dealt with my complaint about the Lanes midwives. If anyone can get you onto another list, it will be her. -

Another nursery thread - Advice needed!
Fuschia replied to susyp's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Being less than 3h per day, they're not OFSTED registered, hence you never get a free place at 3+, and can't use vouchers. But if you are hoping for a school nursery place from 3+ anyway, it's a great place to go beforehand. -

They take from 18m. My twins started about then. It's a lovely little place, to give you a couple of hours break and give them the chance to experience the nursery environment. -
Anyone had experience of small for dates scans at Kings?
Fuschia replied to Yak's topic in The Family Room Discussion
As well as the size, they check the blood flow to the placenta and the baby's blood flow and I think that is a better indicator of any problems than the size itself (which is generlaly seen as Ok as long as a line is being followed, increasing in line with the percentile line, roughly) -

Leaving toddlers alone to have their tantrum
Fuschia replied to WorkingMummy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think sometimes children need to be held while they battle with their feelings... or at least have the parent close by. But you're right, talking and trying to reason isn't generally what's required... -

If she gets a place there, you are welcome to meet up with me and mine beforehand, my twins attend every morning. -

The same children attend magic moments, many children do 2/3 days, my twins do 4 days. It's not a huge turnover. Fridays are very quiet. The staff are very cuddly. -
I had physio after the birth of DS1. It did sort the problem out (loose ligaments and bad position breastfeeding)

Not usually anger, but exhausted frustration ... occasionally in late pg or with newborn baby I found myself in tears or shouting at the other children. Mr F isn't particularly tolerant of this sort of thing, but the best thing for me has been the times he has just given me a big hug and said something soothing. If he just told me to stop and walked away, it would be very hurtful. If I lose it emotionally, I want kind gentle touch... not to be ignored until I have cooled down. I don't see that a toddler is any different. -

Childminder vs nursery for baby at 11ish months
Fuschia replied to ladyruskin's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Once child is born you and your DP can start sacrificing your salary for childcare vouchers to use when your child is placed. Minde rmuch better for a small baby, IMO -
Mr F is taking some time off and suggested I go to a spa... although I think he has forgotten about the breastfeeding baby! Is this feasible? We did go yonks ago to a hotel in the Cotswolds that had a creche. Though I suspect leaving him for the day and going somewhere nearby is my best bet. Any ideas?

Night feeds at 4 months - what is realistic?

LeilahB Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So how does one get them to sleep through (ie > learn to self settle if they wake in periods of > light sleep) without resorting to controlled > crying (which am not keen on)? Ah, the holy grail... teaching them to self settle via healthy sleep associations. Go into a bookshop and you can find a whole shelf of alternative approaches! -

LSB Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Does anyone > know whether they un-regress themselves and, if > so, when??!! although they wll get through the developmental leap, sleep patterns have changed for good with periods of light sleep like an adult. They won't sleep again like a newborn, continuous deep sleep
