  1. There is s duplicate thread in 'wanted'
  2. It's very late for a resignation (edited to day) a headteacher needs to give 3 months notice - end of April Either this is a late announcement of an earlier resignation or there is something of a crisis - and the previous head has resigned with no new job to go to Or has she resigned with effect fro November? A temporary head will need to be found to cover. I guess governors will recruit later on with a headteacher who is keen to run an academy
  3. Try cp one o'c club - open mornings
  4. I think that will be ok It just mostly requires them To Be strong enough to Hang onto tyre swings and not stupid enough to fall off the wooden platforms
  5. I think they do recommend 8 but it's not a rule... Took my son from 5/6 Dkh adventure playground us probably better for small ones - aged 4 maybe
  6. There isn't am actual Age limit I Don't think it would suit children under 5
  7. Is really haunting me How can someone send their small child out alone like that
  8. You misunderstand me... other mums said he gets sent out alone to play
  9. As I was in the little park in the Lordship Lane estate and there was a small child there (aged 4) without his parents At least the police came to take him home and see what was going on It is really preying on my mind though Anything could have happened to him
  10. It takes VERY bad behaviour to worry a good nursery
  11. James The publication of school out turns, required by law, seems very out of date: http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200026/council_departments/370/childrens_services/4 Can you clarify, please? Also are schools forum minutes etc published (where?)
  12. If it's any consolation, having had 3 children Through toddler hood with differing personalities ... The quieter ones are then Less feisty later and you worry they won't stand up for themselves Also an inquisitive mind and determination are good traits

  16. *Bob* Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > That's what I meant.. is she meant to stay out of > it, sort-of thing. I don't think there is a rule but I think it would bD usual practice/ advised by the professional associations The head will need to implement whatever thd governors decide, after all
  17. We are pretty minimalist I don't really enjoy having to dash about snd if we muss things I have prepaid I feel it's wasteful Child no 1 does swimming lessons and Kung Fu One twin does ballet That's it I think 2 per child in the end will be (more than!) sufficient I knew children in ds1's class who would do French followed by ballet sfter school or swimming and drama on a Saturday
  18. I would expect improvement within 48h of antibiotics I think
  19. I don't think it would be considered professional for the head to involve herself in the debate at a meeting between governors and parents
  20. The staff were a bit snooty, the time I went in
  21. If you think a school had to become an academy to improve then you are probably reading the wrong newspaper!

  24. DB, I think your post is spot on. I think many schools are very ignorant of many aspects of commissioning services on their own behalf and underestimate the time (cost) of purchasing and monitoring contracts at school level. Not quite the same thing, but a good example nontheless, is running cleaning services at school level rather than buying in an external contractor. The cost p/h of the actual cleaners might be considerably less than the contracted out service. However, the school would need to factor in purchase and depreciation of equipment, training, sickness cover, maternity entitlements, payroll costs, health and safety responsibilities (risk assessments, inspections, COSHH paperwork) and no doubt many more things I haven't even thought of. Put a price on the management time required to provide cleaning inhouse and the overall cost begins to look a lot less attractive than at first glance. This sort of consideration will apply to every individual service that the LA probably provides at present from central funds, as well as those which schools pay for already from delegated funds (but probably are subsidised at present) The amount schools receive as the 'top up' is under review anyway http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-13736501
