  1. I'm on Ulverscroft too and also at the North Cross end. E
  2. So how does an EDFDrinks newbie recognise the group? Do you all wear carnations? Have some sort of sign? Peer about for people who look like they might be local forumites? Nothing worse than sidling up to people asking if they're from such-and-such and having them look at you like you're an alien. E
  3. I just wanted to say that here in Ulverscroft Rd the postie is lovely and really helpful, usually comes round at about 11-12. The guy who does the parcels in the van is not so friendly, but never puts a card through the door unless I'm actually out (but then, he probably knows that I'm often in during the day), and almost always delivers between 9.20-9.50. Sounds like I'm quite fortunate! Agree with you Sue, I'd have thought that casuals are almost always paid a higher hourly rate in most industries as they don't get the other benefits.
  4. Cate, I've been meaning to give the sprout recipes a go. I love sprouts but after many years of not buying them as the ex hated them, I'd forgotten to buy them now it's just me. Thanks for the reminder! E
  5. Just wanted to add another recommendation for a Christmas Day meal: Chestnut Bourguignon Pie. It's really delicious and has a good hearty consistency (and is quite boozy - well it certainly is when I make it!). I've had it for a couple of Christmas Day lunches and all the non-veggies always want some too. Any other veggies have good suggestions for Christmas meals? E
  6. Second Cate's recommendation for 101cookbooks. I love that site! The recipes are really imaginative and the photography is gorgeous. I'm veggie too, but on the meat side, the River Cottage shows (most recently 'RC Autumn') are good at discussing cheaper cuts of meat and what you can do with them. Plus Abel & Cole recently sent out an email on getting more meals from your organic chicken, plus other well-priced meaty meals: Abel & Cole recipes E
  7. Sounds great, dropping you an email now. E
  8. Ooh this is all very interesting. You've got me digging around on sites trying to find my Mercury sign and the like. I knew I was a virgo dragon, but didn't know I was a virgo fire dragon, plus seem to have a lot of my other signs in libra (not sure what that's meant to mean yet). Excellent work avoidance activity! :)

Oooh the gigantes beans in the tomatoey sauce? Damn they're good!
  10. Congrats G&B, this is great news. I really love going there, though would agree that more attentive service would be good, especially if it's not too busy and we're sat at the back.
  11. TJS Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- The garden cnetre is very useful (shame it > is going) Okay, I've missed something! Can someone direct me to the thread about the garden centre? I don't want to see it go, it's great!
  12. So sorry to hear about this Max. I think esph is a great service and am interested in signing up for membership myself. I'd be utterly furious at the lie that the business isn't doing well, and I hope you'll be able to continue operating.
  13. I haven't had any holes in clothes yet (that I've seen), but I bought some of those pheromone traps and they work really well. You can buy them in SMBS - they're up the back with the household/bathroom products, on a high shelf. They're about ?6 and I have one in the bedroom and one in the lounge (yes Victorian floorboards with big gaps between), and they do catch them.
  14. > Any pointers to the best takeaway curry in > ED/PR/FH greatly appreciated. I've always really enjoyed the Gurka's Tiffin in Forest Hill that does delivery - I've found it better than anything I've had on LL. They've recently been renamed the Royal Tiffin as I think they're under new management and I've only had food from them once since then and I'm not sure that it was *quite* as good, and the price has increased slightly, but it was early days, so will definitely be ordering again. The sag aloo is particularly good as they use fresh spinach, rather than the usual frozen stuff.
  15. These are just fabulous, thanks for sharing them. Where did you get them? You offered a CD which is really generous. I'd love to have a collection of them in higher quality (if available) as I might get some printed to put up on the wall.
  16. Japanese would get my vote (with lots of veggie sushi options), Vietnamese, really good proper Chinese or very good Lebanese or Turkish (I really enjoy Tas for well-priced, really fresh, simple food).
  17. I had an Npower person a couple of months ago who insisted that he was not signing me up to making a change, but to getting a comparison and that I'd get a phonecall to give me more info and to ask if I wanted to switch. Caught me on an off day (I usually just say 'I never buy anything door-to-door'), but needless to say, he had indeed signed me up and I didn't get the phonecall. When I received the letter telling me I'd switched, I called Npower to cancel and complained about the seller which they took note of. I was amused to note that the recorded info options included 'press 3 to complain about an Npower sales representative' or similar - which clearly means they know they're terrible.
  18. I registered but haven't received anything, that's a shame, would love to try it out this weekend!
  19. Been only once to the Blue Brick as the food wasn't great (but acceptable), and the service wasn't very good at all.
  20. My guess from the name is it sounds like kidswear, not quite sure why, just does.
  21. James, just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation of Song Que in Shoreditch. I moved into an office just down the street last week and tried it out and it as great. The fried tofu & veggies was delicious, though was disappointed with the spring rolls, but I will be back! E
  22. So sorry to hear about that - I'm desperately looking forward to you opening. Another ED veggie Vietnamese food lover here!
  23. According to an old dear who'd been investigating and couldn't wait to inform my mum and I as we walked past :) it's called Rush and will be in TV in April.
  24. The whole windowed envelopes thing really bugs me. Because they can't recycle them, I tear the window out before I put the rest of the envelope into the recycling bag, but it would be much better if companies just didn't use them at all.
  25. Hi Beccy We're currently at capacity, but we're working on finding a suitable new venue to allow us to increase membership soon. For now, if you'd like to be kept abreast of what's happening, you can join the 'waiting list' google group at: http://groups.google.com/group/edwi Cheers Elizabeth
