  1. It's businesses with cellars/basements that are worst affected, esp those that contain food/drink etc. In addition to those listed here, Brick Brewery is also closed for the time being and the Gowlett is in a bad way too. When they reopen help them get back on their feet and spend a few extra quid there.
  2. The General Store on Bellenden Road now has a license and is also stocking craft beers from Partizan, Kernal and other local breweries.
  3. The prosecution would have to a) be in the public interest and b) be likely to secure a conviction I'd think parents of successful and bright children wouldn't have much difficulty in getting that thrown out of court. I think there is an ongoing legal battle on just this issue at the moment. It could set a very interesting precedent.
  4. How can they enforce that? I mean, what would happen if you just refused to pay? Would they then attempt to suspend your child? I'd like to see that stand up in court.
  5. A French/Spanish shower is to just spray on deodorant rather than wash.
  6. There's a massive block of flats opposite - don't see how this is a problem.

Excellent schools. I went to one of them. The town is a shit hole though and all the kids come from surrounding, nicer, areas. This review of the "boozer" the Nags Head in Camberwell http://www.the-daily-news.co.uk/2011/12/possibly-rough-local-pub-youre-scared-to-go-to-but-were-not-no6-the-nags-head-camberwell-road-se5.html#more made me chuckle for the final paragraph nails where the truly rough and scary pubs are: The genuinely scary pubs are not these places, but the ubiquitous Fluids and Lushes of small towns around the country, with their sans serif font signs, ever-changing names and relentless ?two for one" shots deals. They thrive while characterful pubs like these die out. There's a moral there somewhere. Just don't ask the Nag's Head barmaid to find it... Though I still won't step foot in the Dolphin. And the Nags Head wasn't rough or scary when I went in at Xmas - just rubbish. One of the worst pints I've ever drunk.

  9. Well I was last there about a decade ago. And they were the same in the 20 years I was there. Rough as houses. If you weren't "known" the reception would be frosty to say the least. Heard some right horror stories about them.
  10. The Dolphin and the Red Lion, Sutton Hight Street. Wild West. And I'm not Billy The Kid.
  11. I'd love to see anyone attempt to say the opposite of the empty platitudes from Ash Kebabs. Poor quality Rotten food Cooked with a hatred for our customers. None of those things are real winners are they?

  13. Lou - your pint now costs ?7 because there is no food to subsidise it. Well done. Claim your prize.
  14. You can't - don't even try. Just stay at the Blu hotel next door and spend a pleasant evening watching lithe young women hurtle through the air to fetch bottles of wine 40ft up. http://www.radissonblu.co.uk/cs/Satellite?blobcol=urldata&blobkey=id&blobtable=MungoBlobs&blobwhere=1369345656378&ssbinary=true
  15. Although if you want "interesting" toilets, the pipe work in the Man of Kent has a Gieger-esque look to it. Doubt that was intentional mind you.
  16. Just makes me imagine that scene in Trainspotting.

Don't talk about Jah and his mates like that....
  18. I think it only covers urban and military areas. i.e. if the missile is due to fall harmlessly onto some farmland they aren't going to waste ammo blowing it out of the sky.
  19. You two could be brothers!;-)
  20. May I present the visionary that is Michael Knighton. http://michaelknighton.co.uk/ The poetry is EPIC.

  22. What does a wannabe Claphamite do to identify themselves? I love the Gowlett and loathe Clapham so I'd be interested to know.
  23. Gowlett.
  24. You're aware that "north" is arbitrary? To anyone approaching from space there is no up or down, north or south. So we are all northerners and southerners equally. And then the poles are due magnetic reversal any day now too.
