  1. simple solution - management at DKH enforce limitations per customer, no milk or eggs is just ridiculous.
  2. As of yesterday the "official" figure was 71 deaths of the 1950 reported cases in the UK, that gives a mortality rate of 3.64% (circa 4%). That is very scary.
  3. FFS, which bit of "be kind" don't you understand?
  4. COUNCILLORS - A response to this thread would give residents some reassurance, one that you can be measured on, in terms of what YOU as Elected Representatives and council officers/staff are being instructed to react to do in these unusual times. Now is Your time to STEP UP and come out of the shadows you so like to operate in. If you don't perform now at this time of need, the electorate will NOT forget or forgive you at the next round of local elections.
  5. Every council has an emergency planning team/(business continuity). A Borough Emergency Room is NOT hypothetical, these exist and where the Gold team would work from supported by the emergency planning team. Each borough will have an emergency plan, these should be made publicly available to show how the council will operate in this situation. Used to work in another boroughs team. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/community-safety/emergencies https://www.southwark.gov.uk/community-safety/emergencies/why-plan-for-emergencies https://www.southwark.gov.uk/community-safety/emergencies/business-continuity?emailUsContact=8313 Some response from Councillors to this thread would give residents some reassurance, in terms of what they and council officers/staff are being instructed to react to do in these unusual times.
  6. Currently and based on published numbers of cases of those infected with the virus vs mortality rate, comparing those rates in UK, France, Spain and Italy, it's between 2% - 7%. Just shows how lethal this virus is
  7. It just gets more depressing reading about people's greedy panic buying. Why aren't Sainsbo's management and security not intervening?

The some shelves are already empty and whilst they have been re-stocked those panic buying have left them empty again. As someone has previously said, unless Sainsbury's and other supermarkets implement limits, this situation will continue. With the severe impact this virus can have on those infected, people are stocking up to prevent running out. My fear is lots of people having already stocked up and these items will sit unused in cupboards and garages for weeks and possibly months. With whole countries being put into lock down, i.e. Italy, Spain, etc, it can probably be assumed that such countries will be unable to supply goods to countries they normally supply, i.e. pasta, passata, tinned tomatoes. I doubt the UK has sufficient supplies, and fresh foods will only last so long.
  11. If you take the estimated mortality rate of 0.5% and multiply by the population it is somewhere between 300K - 500k
  12. The first role of Government is to protect its citizens, from what has transpired it now appears that Boris is willing to allow between 300,000 - 500,000 citizens to die, before their natural time because the NHS clearly does not have the necessary resources to adequately cope with this virus. i.e anything to sustain breathing.
  13. You could try smaller more frequent shops to allow you to stock up.
  14. It's been up on the window a few weeks now, had hoped someone was taking it over. Presumably the owner or occupant had not paid outstanding debts, hence the repossession order and bailiffs.
  15. If the expectation is that 300,000 will die from the virus from a population of some 66,000,000, then they are expecting a conservative mortality rate 0.5% of the population, I suppose that is "their" worst case scenario, if you then double that to get a more accurate figure, that makes this really scary. As Boris said, "many families will lose loved one's before their time". Well isn't that ironic with the health minister and probably other cabinet ministers being infected, including Boris, remind me who's next in the chain of command? Step up Larry "the" Cat
  16. Well they'll have some explaining to do to their parents and will have a story for the playground on Monday morning. Which ever school it is, sure not to be impressed.

  18. This takes the decision out of the hands of Government making any decree. 'This decision has not been taken lightly' Statement from the EFL: "The FA, Premier League, EFL and Barclays FA Women?s Super League and FA Women?s Championship have collectively agreed to postpone the professional game in England until 3 April at the earliest. "This action, which will be kept under constant review, has been taken due to the increasing numbers of Clubs taking steps to isolate their players and staff because of the COVID-19 virus. "The postponements include all matches in the Championship, League One and League Two, as well as all Academy and youth team fixtures. "In addition, clubs are being advised to suspend indefinitely all non-essential activities which include, but are not limited to, player appearances, training ground visits and fan meetings. "Whilst the EFL Board has continued to take the advice and guidance offered by the Government and its health advisors, emerging developments mean now is the time to implement football?s contingency plans in response to the crisis. "A further update on these plans will be given post an EFL Board Meeting next week. "This decision has not been taken lightly, but the EFL must prioritise the health and well-being of players, staff and supporters while also acknowledging the Government?s national efforts in tackling this outbreak." "The suspension of elite football in England means the England friendlies against Italy and Denmark, scheduled for 27 March and 31 March respectively, will not take place".
  19. "As of 9am on 12 March 2020, 29,764 people have been tested in the UK, of which 29,174 were confirmed negative and 590 were confirmed as positive. Eight patients who tested positive for COVID-19 have died." This is just the beginning, the reported peak of the infection is anticipated to be in two to four weeks time with potentially a further twelve weeks thereafter. Boris today, levelled with the public and said that many will die prematurely, although he didn't put it that bluntly. Boris Johnson actually said: "I must level with you, I must level with the British public, many more families are going to lose loved ones before their time" The UK are not reacting quickly enough and much tougher sanctions need to be implemented by the Government NOW, see what Italy have done. We don't get a second chance with the consequences of a pandemic.
  20. with great sadness it has been reported that, Michel Roux: French restaurateur and chef dies aged 79
  21. Which is what the doctor from Italy was effectively saying.
  22. The chaos continues and clearly the algorithm can't make head nor tail of what is happening or people are buying for "the end of the world", and busy as hell in there this lunchtime Currently no loo rolls, no flour, hardly any sweet biscuits, minimal soup, no pasta, little bleach, minimal kitchen rolls, reduced jam, etc.
  23. some people don't have an alternative
  24. I have read reports about how the impact on patients in Italy has been so severe. Pls take time to read this, it is a really scary account of the impact it is having. Then you can decide if you think how the health system here in the UK can cope. Jason Van Schoor @jasonvanschoor ? Mar 9 3/ The current situation is difficult to imagine and numbers do not explain things at all. Our hospitals are overwhelmed by Covid-19, they are running 200% capacity Jason Van Schoor @jasonvanschoor ? Mar 9 4/ We?ve stopped all routine, all ORs have been converted to ITUs and they are now diverting or not treating all other emergencies like trauma or strokes. There are hundreds of pts with severe resp failure and many of them do not have access to anything above a reservoir mask. Jason Van Schoor @jasonvanschoor ? Mar 9 5/ Patients above 65 or younger with comorbidities are not even assessed by ITU, I am not saying not tubed, I?m saying not assessed and no ITU staff attends when they arrest. Staff are working as much as they can but they are starting to get sick and are emotionally overwhelmed. Jason Van Schoor @jasonvanschoor ? Mar 9 6/ My friends call me in tears because they see people dying in front of them and they con only offer some oxygen. Ortho and pathologists are being given a leaflet and sent to see patients on NIV. PLEASE STOP, READ THIS AGAIN AND THINK. Jason Van Schoor @jasonvanschoor ? Mar 9 7/ We have seen the same pattern in different areas a week apart, and there is no reason that in a few weeks it won?t be the same everywhere, this is the pattern: 13 1.6K 5.8K Jason Van Schoor @jasonvanschoor ? Mar 9 8/ 1)A few positive cases, first mild measures, people are told to avoid ED but still hang out in groups, everyone says not to panick 2)Some moderate resp failures and a few severe ones that need tube, but regular access to ED is significantly reduced so everything looks great Jason Van Schoor @jasonvanschoor ? Mar 9 9/ 3)Tons of patients with moderate resp failure, that overtime deteriorate to saturate ICUs first, then NIVs, then CPAP hoods, then even O2. 4)Staff gets sick so it gets difficult to cover for shifts, mortality spikes also from all other causes that can?t be treated properly. Jason Van Schoor @jasonvanschoor ? Mar 9 10/ Everything about how to treat them is online but the only things that will make a difference are: do not be afraid of massively strict measures to keep people safe, Jason Van Schoor @jasonvanschoor ? Mar 9 11/ if governments won?t do this at least keep your family safe, your loved ones with history of cancer or diabetes or any transplant will not be tubed if they need it even if they are young. By safe I mean YOU do not attend them and YOU decide who does and YOU teach them how to. Jason Van Schoor @jasonvanschoor ? Mar 9 12/ Another typical attitude is read and listen to people saying things like this and think ?that?s bad dude? and then go out for dinner because you think you?ll be safe. Jason Van Schoor @jasonvanschoor ? Mar 9 13/ We have seen it, you won?t be if you don?t take it seriously. I really hope it won?t be as bad as here but prepare. Jason Van Schoor @jasonvanschoor ? Mar 9 Jason Van Schoor @jasonvanschoor ? Mar 10 @threadreaderapp unroll Dmitriy Kedrin MD, PhD @GI_Pearls ? Mar 10 Replying to @jasonvanschoor Do you have any evidence of this? Pics of ORs being used as ICUs? Pathologist working as ED docs? Any visual or other evidence would go along way on swaying the large bureaucracy that we have here in the US. Jason Van Schoor @jasonvanschoor ? Mar 10 These photos are of ORs being cleared in Bergamo on the 6 March to make more ICU beds. These spaces are all now filled with patients. In Brescia they have run out of ICU beds and are turning doctors rooms and store rooms into ICUs. Image Image 1 more reply Danny Wong (黄永年) @dannyjnwong ? Mar 9 Replying to @jasonvanschoor Similar to the account here I am worried this sounds like a warzone Quote Tweet Silvia Stringhini @silviast9 ? Mar 9 1/ I may be repeating myself, but I want to fight this sense of security that I see outside of the epicenters, as if nothing was going to happen "here". The media in Europe are reassuring, politicians are reassuring, while there's little to be reassured of. #COVID19 #coronavirus Show this thread Jason Van Schoor @jasonvanschoor ? Mar 9 It IS a war zone. And we are in no way preparing!
