Yesterday I received a letter from the Chief Executive (no less!) of King's College Hospital. I view the letter as an indirect appeal for charitable donations. To be frank, I am unsure about my own reaction to this. One side of me thinks that, when I next find myself in the fortunate position of being able to donate to a charity, that I should give this request serious consideration - especially as I have received (and continue to do so) excellent care under Kings. However, the other half of me feels unsure about the whole thing. This isn't another charity for starving children in Africa or endangered species in South America etc. Indeed, we are talking about a branch of our Welfare State - a publicly funded healthcare system for the benefit of all UK citizens. Does this CE's action therefore constitute a blooming cheek, or, given the current economic climate, a reasonable course of action? I am assuming that others will have received similar correspondence, in which case I am wondering what your views are on this too.

Yes...could well be. It was posted in another section of the forum (either General Issues or The Lounge). Not to worry...I witter on far too much anyway, most of it utter gibberish - LOL!! Thanks for getting back.

Hello iaineasy - nice to see you back. Have missed your posts and, of course, those hugs.

Hello Admin, Erm...I posted on this thread (I think mine was the second post)...I just wondered why it is no longer here. Presumably it has been deleted. TBH it doesn't really matter as I wasn't really saying anything that important (other than pointing out the Forum's rules with regard to capital letters), but I am interested in the logic (or not) behind the deletion. No offence is intended. Thanks.

I've never cheated. Don't think I've ever been cheated on either. Does that make me a loser? -

Good point...I could be speaking to a mere superposition of your good self from a parallel universe...another reality...but, according to the Everett-Wheeler metatheory of Quantum Mechanics you wouldn't know it... Ah well...

Oh yes, even if you spend hours laboriously "sealing" the net, they will simply gnaw their way through - thus damaging your netting too. What I find infuriating is that they laugh in your face as you approach them...yes...laugh in your face I tell you! The little gits! I'm sorry about your pears though: to wait over 4 years for the sods to ultimately rob you of your produce like that can be most disheartening. I have seriously thought about purchasing an airgun. However, I worry that its use (assuming I were to aim correctly in the first instance) might result in an injured squirrel simply limping away to a slow (and cruel) death. Is it possible to obtain a clean kill with merely an airgun does anyone know?

LOL! You are right about the shotgun thing though - I've been tempted. I did try squirrel at Franklins a few months back. I remember it well because of the disgust on my hubby's and surrounding customers' faces upon ordering. I did ask Franklins whether the squirrels on their menu were local as the idea of getting my own back and potentially eating one who had gorged himself on my sweetcorn appealed enormously. Unfortunately I was informed they came from York. Didn't detract from the taste though - rather enjoyed it in a sick kind of way LOL! Needless to say, hubby was appalled!

And there was I thinking that I had "won" through sheer skill and cunning. How unkind of you to shatter my delusions in this way. Come to think of it, I did rather think that the forum was a little quiet - LOL!

Ooooh you have my sympathies...did you skid owing to the rain I wonder? Keep an eye on your injuries...the last time I got knocked off my bike, although I was in pain, I assumed that any injury was minor - turned out that I had sustained a hairline fracture to my hip. So if the pain drags on - do get yourself checked out. Well done for avoiding the pedestrian BTW. Here's to a speedy recovery.

I love it - you wait till they start calling you "AuntyX" in that sweet little voice...there's nothing like it...and as for the hugs and cuddles...bliss... One of my little nephews is with me right now and he is saying: "it's good having an Aunty because she spoils you...and she can cook!". Just thought I throw that in!

Frankly I'm up for eating as many as the little buggars as possible. They eat my broad beans, my sweet corn, and my strawberries on my allotment as well as my plums at home. They are wasteful too...starting on one fruit with one bite before moving on to the next for another bite and so on. Little bastards!

I love this forum - it just gets better each day. The reason for this emotional outburst? Where else would you find a flea-ridden pet dog running a lottery in aid of both The Pakistan Floods Appeal and St Christopher's Hospice? Thanks to Mark and to the team who ensure its smooth running.

And for you lil bro, I would like to choose the number 2 - a lucky number in Chinese Culture. I would also like it to be red, so as to render it doubly lucky. So Willy-Woof, that's 2 for karter please. Ta fleabag. As they say in the casinos: ALORS MEDAMES ET MESIEURS - FAITES VOS JEUX
