  1. Hello, Unfortunately there has been an accident near the police station on lordship lane. I'm not sure what happened but there is a bus blocking one way, an ambulance the other and I heard someone mention a cyclist but I can't confirm that as I didn't want to snoop. Traffic isn't moving in either direction so find a different route.
  2. We also have 3 flats in one house with share of freehold. Our renewal quote was over ?1,000 but after looking on this forum I found discountinsurance.co.uk - it was ?328! Comparisson sites are tricky for buildings that aren't straightforward; we found it was best to get a broker.
  3. I did a pattern cutting course there last year. All the courses are extremeley good value; it must cost a forutne to keep the centre going.
  4. Join street van and take it to the tip. The new recycling centre off the Old Kent Road is surprisingly fun.

Maybe you have a > similarly lazy deliverer - I'm surprised it was > still there when we got home. I have also had this recently. I think it's partly because the post rounds have changed. When I went into the sorting office to check if my missing birthday present turned up there I was told I now have a better postie since the route change. Since finding 2 parcels leaning against the door I'm not convinced. I live on Lordship Lane so not a suitable place to leave a parcel out on display! The man at the sorting office was very helpful so I'm going to go back to speak to him. To whoever took my birthday present; please give it back.
  6. I was on a better wage before but decided the pension would make up in the long run. I became a teacher to do that cheesy thing of making a difference but a deciding factor was the pension and also the holidays (in-case i am lucky enough to have my own kids one day). I'm not on here to have a moan about being a teacher but I will be in the general strike if it happens. I'll also be participating in the 'action short of strike' the Wednesday after next. apologies for the lack of capitals etc - I'm phone typing! lucyA1308 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I feel sorry for anyone who is in a job for 40 > years for what they think they should get out of > it at the end of the day. > > Anything could happen between now and then. Enjoy it.
  7. I heard (no proof, just a rumour) that a young girl in Bromley died a couple of users go because of eating a peanut butter sandwich someone bought in despite a school ban. I just don't think it's worth the risk. My sisters and i went from reception all the way trough to yr 11 on a marmite sandwich, apple and a kit-Kat everyday - we loved so don't worry about the repetition!
  8. Are you discussing this in relation of the 'action short of strike' that starts on the 26th or generally full strike action?

  10. I used to work in Bond Street/Marylebone area and got the train to LB then jubilee to Bond Street - I found that the quickest. You could alway try one day getting the train to LB then switching platforms to get train to Charing cross then hop on the Bakerloo line but that's a bit of a faff. On the way home I used to walk to victoria then get the 185 as I preferred it to being in someone's armpit on the tube, so maybe you could do something similar with the 12.
  11. I've never had an issue with politeness but getting an appointment is so hard. I have never been able to get through on the phone at 8 before and when I asked if the only way to get an appointment for on the same day or within the next few weeks was to queue outside for 8, I was told yes. I like many other people am on my way to work then so it's not possible for a large chunk of the community to get an appointment within about 3 weeks. I don't know what the solution is other than refusing new patients but possibly offering some same day appointments on-line might be fairer. I didn't know about the being phoned back by a doctor system so that's great to know - they should promote that a bit better.
  12. The flat we bought had an ikea bathroom sink, cabinets etc. and the top surface did bubble and peel off a bit around the edges. It wasn't the same range and the ventilation wasn't good so that doesn't mean the one you're looking at won't work well.
  13. > I have also heard of horror stories of 8 year olds > with Blackberries! I'm a secondary school teacher and there are many blackberries in year 7! Absolutely crazy and unecessary. Drives me mad when kids have a flash phone but then say they can't afford stationery to do their work with. I think leave off getting one and if she asks for one get her a cheap one and tell her to not get it out on the bus etc.
  14. Southwark council offer courses and one of them is something along the line of making clothes for chldren. I found it by searching 'courses' on the southwark website.
  15. I'm so shocked that the parents aren't checking how you get home! You could always ask if one of them could walk you home if they don't have a car or have been drinking.
  16. ratty Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There's tons in sainsburys park too Is that still going on? If so i'll email Sainsburys, they seemed quite helpful last year or whenever it was that there were lots of sightings. I have no idea why I seem to find it sort of acceptable for rats to be in Peckham Rye and Dulwich Park but not the Sainsburys mini park thing!
  17. I saw the rats the other day - competely freaked me out. I'm not going back in unless I'm wearing wellies as I have a weird fear of them climbing up my trousers!

What I'm not happy about is > children being taken out of the GCSE path to study > BTECs in "Horse Care" or "Nail Technology", and > then to pretend that these are the equivalent of 2 > (or more) GCSEs. Often these courses say they're the equivalent of x amount of GCSEs, but in reality people don't view them as being. But... It's the only way some students will get any kind of qualification, so it's better than nothing in my view.
  19. I'm a DT teacher so will try and defend my subject. For key stage 3 in the school I work in the students do a half term in each of the following: food tech, textiles, graphics, product design, resistant materials (it's not called woodwork anyomre!) and one about recycling/the envionment. At GCSE they choose between: not picking DT, textiles, graphics, food and resistant materials - each subject is 60% coursework, 40% written exam. The coursework involves research, technical drawing skills (not so much for food), creativity, prototyping, consumer testing, making it and evaluation. I have a mixture of high ability, very low ability and SEN students. The able students of course find it quite easy, but they enjoy it and I think they chose it partly to have a bit of a break from the 'heavy' subjects. The low ability hate the book work and only want to be in the workshop, but they won't pass if they do that. Many of my low ability students aspire to be plumbers, electricians, carpenters which I think is wonderful. I do not think from doing a GCSE in resistamt materials puts them much ahead of someone who hasn't done it, but it's given them a bit of an introduction and got them interested in the related industries. I don't think an A in Resistant Materials is the equivalent of an A in maths, they are just completely different subjects. Potential further education / employers don't just look at the number of GCSEs, they see if they're relevant. "If you get a GCSE in woodwork but then decide you want to work in an office you may regret it." It's just one optional GCSE - you get to do lots, so I don't think it's a waste at all. I could regret being forced to do Latin at school, but It's not hindered my life at all, it was just incredibly boring (to me).
  20. (tu) I thought cash was sucked back in if it didn't get taken from the dispenser in a certain amount of time then your account is automatically reimbursed. Anyone know if that is true or did I make it up? Just wondering.

We had an attempted burglary (although he was tried for criminal damage in the end) on Lordship lane 2 years ago and he was caught and went to prison for a bit over 4 months I think. So sometimes they are caught and sentenced.
  22. When James First started posting on this forum and engaging with the community I was really impressed and grateful that someone would put so much effort into helping us... but since this thread, I am sad to say i have lost all respect for him. James, stop twisting the so called 'consultaion' and start listening to your community, like you used to. I think you can earn respect back if you try hard enough, but at the moment you certainly don't have mine.
  23. Blimey. That's not good, I'm going to be over an hour late to work! Thanks Catma, very helpful.
  24. Unfortunately I need to do a fasting one and have to go before work as it's not open on a Saturday - any ideas as to the wait time at 07:30? I'm guessing 45 mins ish?
  25. Oh dear I was hoping to go at 7:30 on Friday - anyone who's been at 07:30 able to give a clue as to how long I'll need to wait? I need to let my employer know how late I'll be.
