  1. Well done to Sam and helpers! If you ever read this I hope you have a speedy recovery and Sainsburys give you a fitting thank you.
  2. I think (though I may be wrong) there are actually 3 brown bins available. A mini caddy for inside, a small one that I presume is given to houses/flats that don't already has any kid of brown bin (not many people were given these, but sounds like Jeremy was) to transfer interneal brown bin contents into for bin men to collect and the big garden bin that is for garden and/or food waste. Sorry long sentence, I blame phone typing.
  3. Fake pockets on clothes. Pockets are so useful so why not make them real? I do get irrationally angry when I see them.
  4. I think it's plough DIY and I think it opens only in the morning on SUnday closing at either 12 or 1.
  5. Is it only me who thinks they could have made the kitchen 'caddy' a less disgusting colour? I know brown is the southwark garden/food waste colour but why does it have to be the same poo colour seeing as it's obvious what it's for! I'll get over it one day or just buy a better one. Anyone recommend a good recycling bin for the kitchen? I've had a look online and their either extortionate or really ugly. I guess one with 2 equal sized sections would be best? I don't want to get one then regret it. I know I shouldn't care what it looks like as it's only a bin, but I do.
  6. Me - i'm still in my pyjamas and it's past 5. This was not my plan for the day.
  7. As does b&q. We have one with not very heavy curtains and the pole doesn't always stay level.
  8. Yes you can swap to a slimline bin, don't think they do anything smaller than that though. I haven't received my leaflet yet but I'd like to know what the definition of street based as I'm in a convered house to 3 flats so we have minimal space already crammed with bins. I am happy to swap a green bin for a blue one (and if I'm honest it would increase the amount I recycle) but I don't think the other two flats would agree.
  9. Genius - attached to a string so it can't be flushed away! I will sleep soundly for the first time in years now ;)
  10. If I had to choose I would pick a giant spider, even if it was a leaping one. Maybe I should keep a heavy book on the cistern so I have a suitable squishing device. Possible a handy rat trap too.
  11. You're right LM I should drink more wine. Nette, no I don't need a dinkle for a tinkle so am at less risk on the loo than a man, but i'm still scared.
  12. I need to be put off chocolate and wine - anyone got a suitable story? This isn't food or something I particularly enjoy but is necessary; at night if I wake up and need a wee I'm always scared a rat is going to pop up and bite me as I read a man had his dinkle bitten when having a poo.
  13. From the council website: Service changes October 2011 We are committed to providing effective and efficient recycling and refuse collection services for all properties in the borough. We also aim to make it as easy as possible for residents to recycle as much as they can. To help achieve both these aims, we will be introducing service changes in October 2011 to all street based properties in the borough. Estate homes that use the clear bag collection service or communal recycling bins are not affected. Service changes for properties with a street based collection Street based properties that currently have a blue box recycling collection will be included in these service improvements. Properties that are included will receive further information directly through their letterbox in September 2011. If you share bins with neighbours we can provide you with your own brown or blue bins for storing food and garden waste or other recycling. Mixed recycling Kerbside properties will be able to mix all of their recyclable items together in one container, with no more need to separate out different waste types. Wherever possible, we will be supplying residents with a wheeled bin to replace their current blue box and bag, which will increase the capacity available. With the significantly increased capacity of the new wheeled bin, we will only need to collect your dry recycling once every fortnight. Introducing weekly food waste collections We will also be extending the successful food waste pilot. All kerbside properties will receive a mixed food and garden waste collection every week, from your existing brown garden waste bin. If you don't have a brown bin we will supply you with one that is a suitable size for your property. Refuse collections We have found in the food waste pilot area, with easier mixed recycling, and organic material being collected separately, there should only be a small amount of refuse left over. As a result, we will only need to collect the small amount of remaining waste from your existing green bin once every other week. Are properties that were in the pilot included in these changes? Properties in the pilot area already have food waste collections every week and refuse collections every other week. These properties will now be provided with blue bins to replace their blue boxes, and these will be emptied every other week. So we'll all get a leaflet about it this month.
  14. As Bob said do let James Barber know so he can raise individual issues at the meeting he has organised. He needs your postcode along with a description.
  15. I've had stuff thrown at me from a car before - I thought 'tosser' and then got on with my day. I know I wasn't there and didn't see the look on his face but he didn't actually say anything to you so I think you've added 1+1 and got something that's not 2.
  16. That's a bit crazy as she definitely said there was a known fault due to be sorted by 8. Maybe you're in a different part of ED to me? I'm on LL opposite police station. Or maybe your flashing lights on modem indicated a different kind of problem and she/he knew it wasn't area fault related? What time did you ring? I rang about 2.30 I think.
  17. Mine stopped at 10:30 today and came back about 10 mins ago. I rang an hour ago and they said there was an area fault and should be back on by 8pm. Just saying so if it stops again you know it should be sorted by 8. On the plus side if you complain every time they reduce your bill for the next month!
  18. I just finished teacher training (design and technology) but I've not got children so can't comment on that side of things. I did a PGCE and was lucky to get a bursary but they don't exist now for DT, but I think they do for maths still but not English - have a look on the TDA website. There are other routes into teaching such as teach first and also GTTP both where you are the teacher from the start of the year not sort of borrowing other teachers classes, but you do get paid - you need to apply well in advance for those 2 routes particularly. Training wise for PGCE definitely you couldn't train to teach Maths and English you'd have to pick one but you would be a qualified teacher so would then be able to teach the other if your employer wanted you to. The training year has been by far the most stressful of my life but that does depend largely on the placement schools you are sent to and your financial situation. The mums on the course did struggle as a PGCE is far more time consuming and emotionally draining than you'd think. I was up most nights until 1am marking, planning, doing uni projects or writing essays and very rarely saw friends and family. But... it did fly by and now I look back and think my god that was truly horrible but it's over now. To be honest I'm not sure I do enjoy teaching teenagers but after quitting my job and training for a year I am going to give it a go! I am hoping it gets easier and more rewarding as time goes by. Definitely ring up a few schools (not 'nice' ones) and go and observe for a few days and see if you're put off. Best of luck x

  20. Didn't 'cool' stop being 'cool' by the end of the 90's?
  21. The lane looks very quiet from my window opposite the police station but still a few buses going past - fingers crossed it stays that way. Edited for getting confused between the Palmerston and bishop - sorry I've removed that bit now!
