  1. Where did you get the "up to 10 million" figure from, was it from the meeting? I persnaly can't see it taking off enough and there would need to be a shed load of money spent to advertise this so people knew they had to. Also, the road sweepers would lose their jobs :( I am happy with the parking we have at the moment as I think pay and display would clog up the side roads even more and I don't want residents parking but that's just me. Those are of course just my views and I do realise that the money needs to be cut somewhere, I just don't know where. My boyfriend works for Southwark building services and his job is most certainly under threat, if not a substantial pay cut and we would then struggle to pay our mortgage. I have no answers or solutions to offer so in a way my post is a bit pointless - sorry!
  2. I don't think they should pay for new ones but if they already have them in storage then it would be nice for them to be used, it probably in a tiny way increases shopping in the local businesses (I have no stats for that, just a guess, so could be wrong). I would definitely prefer one person to keep their job than have Christmas lights though.
  3. My parents had this issue with my granny who also doesn't live near any of us. She really couldn't see well but wanted to continue driving. She's a bit stubborn and wouldn't listen to my mum or her other daughter so in the end all the grand children had to ring and persuade her it was too dangerous and luckily she listened to us. So it might be you need to get someone else, such as a family friend to have a word so he really listens rather than just dismissing it as his daughter being unnecessarily worried. My granny uses taxis, she does grumble about it but she'd definitely spending less than running a car.
  4. I was in a school today and over the tannoy at 11.04 (so it wasn't in transit between lessons) it was announced that a 2 min silence would follow which I was really impressed with. But I was quite disgusted at the teacher wondering round fiddling with bits and bobs and the sixth form students doodling etc. and not being given the stop that stare by the teacher. It's not meant to be just silence but thinking about what has/is been sacrificed for us.
  5. There have been many routes suggested but I'm going to add mine anyway. I used to work in Bond Street and had many different routes depending on my mood, the weather and speediness required. Here they are: Train to LB then jubilee to Bond Street (hated the tube part but was the quickest for me but I only did it in the mornings) Walk to victoria (30mins) then 185 - an odd one and I only did it evenings but the walk through green park is nice and I like the 185, it's quite reliable since it's the first stop and I got to relax and read my book. Walk to Charing cross then get the train to LB then train to ED. Not as tranquil walk wise, tourists everywhere but great in the morning when the tourists are still in bed. Walk to tottenham court (20 mins from my office) road then 176 - takes quite a while but it is the first stop so always get a seat. The 176 is a 24 hour bus which is handy to know. 12 - never again at peak times.
  6. You could buy 2 adult sized dresses from somewhere cheap and have one cut up to make a childs one that way your're only paying for one to be made? Might be a stupid idea though. I saw a mum and her 2 daughters wearing matching purple puffa jackets the other day - how embarrassed those kids must be!
  7. I would love a 99p store but luckily there's one in peckham so not far to go.
  8. Thanks Molly. I think it's probably just the pilot homes then, I thought I might have missed a leaflet or something. I'm all for a new scheme (a sensible one) but I am very shallow and hate ugly bins/caddies etc. and I have to squeeze past them as it is to get to my door. I also have a very small kitchen and hate clutter. I don't know why I'm moaning about it though because it needs to happen and my shallowness shouldn't stop it! I hope after the pilot Southwark find a way of making it work for those in flats and no front gardens.

The Nappy Lady Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I think the change to the policy about sorting > plastic/glass/paper etc. is in part to try to make > it all easier for people - I have to say it will > certainly save me some time each week. Does this mean we no longer have to put paper in the blue bags but they can now just go in the blue box or is that just for people in the pilot scheme? I knew that we now don't need the plastic, glass divider anymore but I thought paper and card had to be separate. This isn't aimed at just the nappy lady, anyone will do, I'm confused. Thanks in advance!
  10. I should think the carwash collects the litter from the cars then puts it in bin - I've never seen rubbish blowing around near the carwash. I also don't think rats in a park is newsworthy. The park is owned by sainsburys so they should sort it out and it sounds like they're trying (don't know if they're trying enough yet though!).

We were all peering at the ceiling, there Agh I wish I hadn't read that - it's the lower deck for me from now on! > were a couple of tiny vents near the window.
  12. I just received this response from sainsbos (I did say to them I'd paste their reply on here). Dear Sophie Thanks for your email. I'm sorry that there is still a problem with rats near our Dulwich store. I've spoken to Sylvia, one of the Deputy Managers at the store, about this problem. We do have pest controllers visiting the store daily to set traps and deter the rodents. We've been very successful in keeping them away from the store. The park is near a railway line and this may explain why rats have been seen in the area. Sylvia has assured me that the pest controllers pay particular attention to the park. We'll continue to monitor feedback about the store and do everything we can to keep the area safe. We're grateful to you for taking the time to write in again. We look forward to hearing from you again soon. Kind regards Has anyone seen pest control in the park? I'm such a wimp that I go though the carpark to get in and run past all the busheds incase of rat attack!
  13. On saturday night I was at the bus stop at the top of dog kennel hill and I was happily sat on a seat waiting for my bus. A number 40 pulled up and a man was standing in the doorway not letting the bus move off because he was waiting for his wife and daughter to get on so I looked behind me to see what the hold up was. The 4 year old was weeing about 1m away from me so I looked down to my feet to see a stream of wee approximately 2cm away from my feet. I understand kids need to wee but sainsburys toilets are less than 5 mins from there or failing that a little way from the bus stop at least. The mum must have seen the stream of wee approaching my feet but said nothing.
  14. If you have iphoto you can export it and use the options to reduce the quality and/or size. Other programmes have similar options but maybe not under export, maybe search in the programme help section for 'image size'.
  15. Catma, there's an ask admin thread in the about this forum section. He might not see your message.
  16. Anyone emailed sainsburys? Please do so they take notice.
  17. civilservant Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Once or twice, a woman refused, > but never the men. I am so so shocked by this. What did they say, was it just "no" or no, because i'm pregnant too or feel unwell etc.? Please anyone who needs a seat just ask, 99.9% of people would quite happily give up their seat.
  18. I mentioned this in the ed nature watch thread. That park is owned by sainsburys. I emailed them about it a few weeks ago and they said they'd forward it onto the store. If everyone emails they're more likely to do something about it so please do email them.
  19. You should get one of those baby on board TFL badges. People often zone out on the bus and tube and don't notice a preganant woman or someone less able to stand. I certainly have no problem giving up my seat but I'm always reading a book so often never notice someone in need of a seat. And of course there's the obvious problem of offending someone if they're just got a bit of a belly and aren't pregnant, which has happened to me a couple of times :(
  20. I need to get to bond street/marylebone so am either going to walk to the first stop of the number 12 in the hope I can get on one this time without waiting 40 mins watching many 176's drive right past my stop or change trains at LB and walk from charing cross. On the plus side though I got to leave 1 1/2 hours early today because of the strike.
  21. I always think of the word thrice when I hear Lionel Richie singing three times a lady.
  22. I was there yesterday and got the bus back fine from the stop sort of opposite sainsuburys. Didn't really look around but I think it's all open now but maybe check on TFL or somewhere just incase a different part has been closed or anything.

Oh no - i take it you didn't have a handy jumper to tie round your waist? Were they good pants? No outfit is ever safe from a wardrobe malfunction so maybe i'll just invest in some good pants ready for the inevitable accidental flashing..
  24. I don't think i've met anyone with anal fisures before. Someone did me a huge favour yesterday to tell me my pants were showing. Somehow when I'd got off the tube my bag strap had got caught had hitched up my skirt and not until 7 mins later of walking to work did anyone let me know. I think I need to stop wearing dresses or skirts because I've had quite a few wardrobe malfunctions recently.
