  1. I've moved into a place before and didn't know who the current supplier was so just rang up any of them and they told me who the flat is with by the serial numbers on the meters or something. I'd never even considered a landlord minding if you change supplier (probably should have) but usually you have to provide proof of final payment when you move out so that would help the next tenants/landlord.

I was offered victim support after an attempted burglary last year (I was in at the time and the brilliant police caught him and went to prison for a few months) but at the time I just assumed victim support meant councilling etc so I just said no. I wish I'd realised at the time that they could have helped with security, so anyone who is offered victim support do take it.

I agree it's definitely the knowing people have been in your home and the sentimental items that are taken that's the worst. I think I've only seen my dad cry twice, and one of which was when he was telling me how the burglars had stolen the cufflinks his mum had bought him for his 21st birthday. God now I'm getting a bit teary too. Utter scumbags
  4. Agh now I'm too scared to use it. Thanks for the warning.
  5. Yes I agree and I do love JL. But some of it can be bought about 25% or so cheaper on the internet, which is a big difference for some things.
  6. > My wood-burner gets installed tomorrow. Roll on > winter B) My electric blanket arrived this morning. Not quite as exciting as a wood burner but still nice and toasty!
  7. Maybe I'm just naive but I'd like to think that a delivery driver, if met by someone who has no means to get the item into their home, would just take the extra 5 mins and get it into their home (if they can). We did have 2 crates of very very thick rolls of turf (that I could lift and carry for 1 metre before dropping) delivered curb side and they really did mean curb side, just not quite our curb, 5 houses away! It was completely unnecessary though because we've had stuff on the same size pallets delivered to right by our gate so the driver was just being a bit mean.
  8. Expat, Loz is talking about JL's price match promise: "Prices at John Lewis Our online prices are the same as in John Lewis shops, although occasionally you may find a lower price in one of our shops if they're matching the price of a local competitor, or online if we have a johnlewis.com special offer. Because of our 'Never knowingly undersold' policy, if our shops are matching prices nationally, then our online prices will go down (and up) accordingly. The prices in our catalogues are the same as in our shops at the time of going to press, but may be subject to change during the life of a catalogue. We don't apply our shops' 'Never Knowingly Undersold' pricing promise to our online and catalogue prices, or price match any online or catalogue competitors. This is because we're unable to verify the availability and comparability of the goods and the standards of service and support that are offered by others. However, you can always be assured of the same dedication to competitive pricing and exceptional value you find in our shops. "
  9. Attached is a notice of decision for the license application.

How horrible. I'll keep an eye out for your stuff.
  12. Pinch and a punch.
  13. > (although Sophie, I?m compelled to point out that > anyone who can afford to stay out until 11:30 AND > get drunk can manage ?8 for a cab once in a blue > moon ;-) ) Oh it wasn't intentional and only cost me ?5 for a bottle of wine since I was at a friends house but yes I spose once in a blue moon I can afford a taxi but I just hate hate hate doing it.

I completely forgot I'd read this and got to forest hill at 11.30 last night slightly drunk. I ran round various bus stops (i'm sure none of them told me which stop to go to but as I said I was a bit merry so probably why I missed it) for 25 mins until I eventually gave up and paid ?8 for a blooming taxi and I hate paying for/can't afford taxis.
  15. The was Sue does this: "quote from another forumite" xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx her text I just think it's sweet.
  16. Royal mail (td) How can a letter posted first class recorded on thursday morning still be at a blooming depot when it only had to travel about 10 miles to get there! I'm seriously regretting not paying a fortune to post it next day delivery. Oh I'm on a moaning roll now sorry. My GP's surgery taking up to 28 days (it's been 12 so far) to fill out four easy to find out questions on a GP's declaration form that I had to pay ?25 for. I'll stop now.
  17. Good grief that was not my intention at all and I'm sorry that's how you feel. I only posted again because your original post was still there. I won't post again on this thread because we're off topic. Apologies to you for unintentionally patronising you and to the op for going off topic.
  18. Hi Berry Berry. I do agree that women shouldn't go in thinking there will be no problems etc but the OP said this: "SO. Having had two pretty negative experiences at Kings (both under 'emergency' situations) I reaaaalllly want to hear from some people who planned to birth at Kings and had good experiences. And please don't remind me about the benefits of homebirths. I've closed that chapter and accepted my new path. Just want to hear some positive things." She understandably just needs to hear some good stories and has specifically asked for only good ones. All hospitals must have tragic stories such as yours and the OP is just after some reassurance. Best wishes to your sister-in law, brother, niece and the rest of the family. Your story brought a tear to my eye but I hope you understand why I don't think this is the right thread for your post. x
  19. Berryberry that is so awful. The OP mentioned she was worried and asked for positive stories only for reassurance so maybe you could delete your post and start a new separate thread? x
  20. Thanks Penguin I shall seek advice. I won't get my rusty yet trusty saw out tonight then!
  21. > * planting new, especially non-native trees too > close or allowing treesto grow too large - tree > roots typically same spread horizontally as tree > is high Doh, I always thought the roots only spread as far as the fattest bit of the tree. I think I need to fell the 20 ft fir tree that's less than 2 metres away from my flat asap!
  22. I don't know what I want. A holiday home would be the ultimate for me but I think that's a bit beyond a treat! Maybe some lovely art or furniture I guess. Failing that Hugh Jackman or Viggo Mortensen.
