I think http://emoticons4u.com/fingers/fing29.gif is what you're looking for, or the slightly less offensive http://emoticons4u.com/fingers/fing06.gif

Re: the lift thing. There was a fatal accident a few years back in gym that was based in the same building in which I used to work. http://www.cityoflondon.police.uk/CityPolice/Media/News/NewsArchive/2003/liftaccidentupdate.htm So, perhaps not such an irrational fear after all.

Please, Somerfield not Sommerfield.

Probably the same crew that stung me for ?300 from two ATM's in Norbury last week.

Managed to answer my own question. A new STB or TV will be required with a new tuner as the HD over Freeview will use a different standard. I wonder how many people buy "HD Ready" TV's realise this...
-
I'm planning to buy a new HD TV. I haven't decided which one yet but have a question that I'm sure someone can help with. When HD is eventually transmitted over Freeview (not currently possible due to bandwith issues) will HD TV's with an integrated digital Freeview tuner be capable of processing this or will a separate box be required ? It seems that the requirements for an "HD Ready" logo only apply to the display and not the TV's tuner. If the tuner is capable of processing the HD signal then the TV may have the "HDTV" logo as well. I can't find any TV's that have HDTV Freeview tuners - presumably because until HD is transmitted over Freeview there is no demand. I am aware that Panasonic have released HDTV's with intregrated FreeSat tuners which enables one to receive HD with no subscription, if you have, or want, a dish.

Mrs ed_pete had a call from First Direct today as someone had attempted a fraudulent transaction with her switch card. She has never used this card in Somerfield but has used the HSBC ATM.
-
Yet another instance - though not so far afield this time. I had ?300 taken from my First Direct account around 7:30pm last night from two ATM's in Norbury. I too have used this card at the same popular supermarket referred to in above postings.

Moving to 'The Gardens' - what's it like?

Asset - have you tried CCleaner - it helps get rid of all the crap that accumulates the longer you use your PC. IMHO one of the frequent causes of slowness is the stuff that gets started automatically and runs in the background and this app helps you sort that out. Furthermore you could try a defrag - either the Windows one or it would seem that the company behind CCleaner have brought out their own.

Fastest way to drive out of London
ed_pete replied to spooniferous's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Resurrecting an old thread here but I'm driving out to the A3 on a Friday afternoon in a couple weeks and I want to avoid South Circular route. Any advice updates on the two suggestions above: 1: You can get onto the A3 at Raynes Park if you follow a route out through West Norwood, Streatham Vale, Mitcham Common, Morden. 2: South circ and peel off at Lancaster Ave, then over at X-road and chuck right into Knollys road.. Straight on-ish into Valley Road, the right into Sunnyhill, then around the one way to Tooting Bec road. Left down Fransiscan, and keep going into Mellison, then right left onto Colliers Wood Road, and stright out to the A3. TIA -
I stupidly left my bike on the street (Trossachs Road) last night unlocked - yes I know I've only got myself to blame, and no I wasn't drunk. Given that its pretty tatty and its second-hand value is negligible, I'm guessing someone may have ridden it locally somewhere and dumped it. So if you come across a mens dark blue Claude Butler hybrid with a rear rack and a hole in the saddle then could you let me know. Ta

Franklins - The Best Breakfast in Britain?
ed_pete replied to Muttley's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
No disrespect to Franklins but IMO this cannot be a serious review - either that or the Grauniad's journalistic standards have hit rock bottom - still it did make me smile. "...veritable goblets of fine hot coffee that soothed the soul.." (decaf then ?) "..the gentlement chefs...busied themselves like ants; carefully constructing our food..." "...these Rembrants of the breakfast world.." "...the grilled tomato did that rare thing of shedding any vegetable confusion..." and best of all "...the bacon that tasted as if the pig had slept under a duvet upon a cloud." Unbelievable -
The Charter School (are you happy with it?)
ed_pete replied to Libby's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Libby - my daughter started at the Charter last September and so far all is going reasonably well. It's not perfect, but then what school is? Both she and her friends are very happy at school and from my perspective it seems to be keeping her interested in her subjects and stretching her academically when she needs to be. I'd suggest that if you didn't get what you need from the open day then make another appointment to go for a second visit. If you've got any specific question's that you like to ask a parent then by all means send me a PM - if I can't help you then I know a number of other Charter parents - and a Govenor - that may be able to help out. -
How enviromentally-friendly is your office ? On my own subjective scale from 1 to 10 I'd give mine about 2?. Bad PC and printers are left on 24/7 Office lights are left on - in a previous office we had movement detectors on timers that would swith them off automatically in the evening "Green" power supplier - I suspect not. Recently introduced a small number of car parking spaces Good Recycling facilities for paper Recycling facilities for other waste but not policed and abused by staff Cycle storage and changing/shower facilities for cyclists A-rated fridges in staff kitchens (weak one)

Cycle Access from Copleston/Oglander Roads to Grove Vale
ed_pete replied to ed_pete's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
LostThePlot - I expect there would be far too many objections from residents of Coplestone and the surrounding roads to close the junction to cars, and to be honest I would have a great deal of sympathy with them. Scotslass - you're right, cyclists do climb the pavement but as I said in my original post the point of the cycle lane would be to enable them to exit onto Grove Vale legally and safely without climbing the pavement. -
As part of Southwark Council's Cleaner Greener Safer funding, I'm going to put forward a proposal to enable a cycle lane to be established at the junction of Copleston Road, Oglander Road and Grove Vale. Currently access from Copleston/Oglander is blocked to all traffic and half the junction covered in a wide pavement from when it used to be open to traffic both ways. I'm going to suggest that the Council remove part of the pavement to make way for a cycle lane so cyclists can exit on to Grove Vale legally and safely without climbing the pavement. I'd like to hear from other cyclists who use this route as to whether or not they think this is a good idea.

Thanks for the offer Sean but have to be some other time - already committed to a Parents Quiz Night at my son's school.

Anyone used this yet ? [http://www.192.com/maps/photofinder.cfm] - much better than Google Earth (in London anyway). The level of detail is great and its pretty up-to-date e.g. those houses that were on Grand Designs last year can be seen and the hospital (or part of it) has been demolished.
