  1. Replying to my own question, how about a sticky in the "General ED issues / gossip" and "Wanted, offered & recommendations" sections with the heading "PLEASE USE THE SEARCH BEFORE ASKING A QUESTION - IT MAY HAVE ALREADY BEEN ANSWERED. IF YOU DON'T THEN PREPARE TO RECEIVE SHORT SHRIFT"
  2. When the same questions crop up again and again... (oops I haven't checked to see if anyone's asked this before so apologies in advance)
  3. Snorky - move to a less affluent area and you might find it more tricky to shift those Banksy prints...;-)
  4. Are you hanging up a stocking on your wall? It's the time that every Santa has a ball Does he ride a red nosed reindeer? Does a 'ton up' on his sleigh Do the fairies keep him sober for a day? *sneaks quietly away in pre-Xmas shame...*
  5. Changed to the Odeon in 1936 - looks much less attractive but on closer inspection just looks like the central triangular bit was removed and the horizontal blocks (not the correct architectural term I am sure) removed
  6. Susannah Harker and Paul McGann spotted today by Mrs ed_pete...
  7. I never thought it would happen with me and the girl from cl*pham Out on a windy common that night I ain't forgotten When she dealt out the rations with some or other passions I said you are a lady perhaps, she said, I may be
  8. He lives just down the road from me. He and his wife are very lovely and friendly. Apparently had the whole Hustle cast round recently - so perhaps someone may have spotted Robert Vaughn...
  9. Billy Elliot Railway Children (again) White Christmas
  10. A work collegue is using Dulwich College (Library for the ceremony, Hall for the reception). It's pretty pricey and they've got a long waiting list - he's not getting hitched until next October - the first available slot at the time of booking about six weeks ago.
  11. ...and find you find well flushed blokes crap in bed.
  12. Bit of history here on the Dulwich Society website, including memories of the Hospital Radio service.

    Phishing

I have two email addresses but tend to use the same one all the time and I receive very little spam (no offers of viagra, appendige pumps etc). Could be down to NTL/Virgin Media possibly, or maybe my good luck.

    Phishing

I've had three phishing emails from "Nationwide" BS in three days - anyone else get these? Has the security of the EDF been breached? I think we should be told...
  17. Hamleys Lotus Cars Dealership
  18. I'm sure this was discussed before but am unable to find the thread...vaguely seem to remember mixed views on the topic and someone suggested he may have been having an off-day and another suggested that he was mourning the death of his wife...(apologies if my memory doesn't serve me too well)
  19. "One of the joys of living in South London is the green spaces and abundant trees." Absolutely, don't get me wrong I'm all in favour of trees - but it should be the right tree in the right place and ED streets are the wrong place for huge trees.
  20. Having suffered subsidence caused by a large Horse Chestnut street tree I'm afraid I have little sympathy. These trees were simply not designed for the relatively narrow streets and pavements we have in the area. Their roots break up the pavements and presumably are a pain in the neck for the utility companies. One of the worst examples I know of is the tree at on the RH side of Melbourne Grove opposite the church - the pavements completely broken up and the gap between the tree and the hedge/fence is only big enough for one person.
  21. Surely this is just a question of market forces as its lucrative for pubs to attract families with money to spend. Why not ask to speak to the landlord/owner and try to persaude them to establish a "no-go" area for children.
  22. Whiled away many happy hours when I was a kid, just wondered if anyone - or more likely their children - still did...
  23. Admin - can you lounge this thread it seems to have strayed from the original topic.
  24. Found in Planning Applications (sorry I'm a little bored...) Location: 34 EAST DULWICH GROVE, LONDON, SE22 8PP Proposal: Demolition of existing 3 storey residential property (including accommodation in the roof) and existing double garage and the construction of a 3 storey residential property (including accommodation in the roof) comprising 5no x 2 bedroom units and double garage. Now I think that 34 EDG is the one on the corner of EDG and Elsie Road, that looks like its got severe subsidence caused by the massive Ash tree in the front garden. It's been surrounded by plywood hoarding for as long as I can remember. Over to the regular forumites to debate (again) the merits of all property is theft, unsold developments, buy-to-let, incomers, Victorian/Edwardian vs contemporary architecture...
  25. I think they're part of the Friern Road society - try here
