  1. Oh my god - I thought Human Traffic was AWFUL. So wide of the mark and cringemaking in the extreme. Paris Texas is Ry Cooder Pan's Labyrinth - brilliant. Needed the fairytale stuff to detract from the hideous violence, he was nasty. The monster with no eyes is one of the best. Anyone seen Hellboy made by same chap? Withnail, very funny (Camberwell Carrot anyone?)
  2. *wonders what a Humanist perspective is* - one that: a) recommends we are all nice to each other b) reccomends we don't lie to each other c) recommends we don't steal from others d) recommends we don't shag the neighbours' spouse (well, depends, obviously) e) recommends we don't think there are any supreme beings e) recommends we all stop being narky and just live and let live.........................
  3. I used to live in a CPZ (just off Walworth Rd, near a school). I lived there for many years before it became a CPZ and it was a joy when it happened. Prior to it happening the streets were overrun with commuter parkers and if I went out in the morning I could kiss goodbye to parking anywhere near my house for the rest of the day. I now live between ED and ND stations and conicidentally, next to a school. I have to plan my day so I'm not leaving in my car and returning at school time (3.30 - 5.30) if I want to be able to park near my house. I might add that the street is empty of parked cars during school holidays yet during term time it can be difficult to park. I have spoken to the school who have told me they would fight any application for a CPZ. Personally I would pay the residents' fee to be guaranteed the ability to park within 100 metres of my house.
  4. How about the forumites with kids, what shall we do? We are going to be in London for the ifrst time in years. The forumite with the biggest house could host the party, all the kids shoved in a room with food and games and the adults can then get busy with the disco dancin' etc. who's going to volunteer?

  6. I loved the Bourne films, still waiting to see the last one. Blade Runner possible all time fave

  8. boosboss Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ChavWivaLawDegree Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > ?? > > > It's in the OP "and my girlfriend's called the > police" Sorry - can't let this one go. Surely the presence of the apostrophe mean that it reads 'and my girlfriend has called the police' in which case it makes sense. pedantry over
  9. Wot no shreddings? What's wrong with shredded paper or is that so we don't bother shredding documents and it's easier to snaffle IDs?
  10. The 'comedy' slot at 6.30pm can be dreadful. I didn't know Evan Davis is joining Today, I like him! Sometimes it can be painful listening to Humphrey's worrying away at an interviewee, he's like a terrier. Funny though too.
  11. Tarynlondon, I have called Southwark in the past to ask them exactly which numbers of plastic we can recycle and no one was able to tell me. Until I am told which plastics specifically I chuck everything in. Maybe if more people called and asked it may prompt them to find out. Where my mum lives (Scotland) she is told which numbers can be recycled and it is only 1 and 3 I think.

  13. [sorry, lost track but - what happened to the rhythm?]
  14. flexibility > in expanding our services has been significantly > reduced....................ha ha ha ha ha ha
  15. Not sure about Fi, bit too knowingly smug. My Favourite used to be Broadcasting House on Sunday morn when Eddie Mare hosted. It is still good but not as good. Must pay more attention to thought for the day, it seems it is blindingly religious after all. That's the trouble with R4 though it does become a burble in the background.

  17. Oh goodness - you've gone to a lot of trouble to prove me wrong. Obviously I'm not listening carefully enough!
  18. Well I suppose the argument is why should 'quality' food have to be at a premium? But actally I think the argument is the other way round, we have all got so used to, and come to expect, cheap, readily available food that is mass produced with poor quality ingredients to ensure its cheapness, that when something comes along that is good quality which is reflected in the price (plus a quid for profit) people get pissed off. I've recently got a bread maker and am happily churning out my own organic loaves at around ?1 a pop all in so won't be a regular at the bakers. It is important to note though the difference in a good loaf of bread and the mass produced shit we get fed from the supermarkets and if this bakers is producing a small-scale quality product it will be reflected in the price.
  19. Good idea Britvic. I avoid buying stuff in tetrapak because it can't be recycled unless you send it, at your own expense, to the tetrapak recycling plant (which I've never been bothered to do). I'll shoot off an email to Southwark too.
  20. Probably earns more than me (student, so not that difficult!)
  21. I like thought for the day too. It is there to provoke thought and sometimes it does just that. At least it allows all faiths (nearly) a go and it is never particularly religious in my view. I heard a Buddhist doing it once.
  22. She's been to me too, a couple of years ago, but my neighbour (who had previously shelled out some cash to her) recognised her and sent her off with a flea in her ear. I can't believe she's been scamming the area for so long! She must have done nearly all the houses in ED by now.
  23. Likewise, dial tuned to R4 at all times in the Asset house. We like the comforting burble in the background while cooking. Cannot stand commercial radio adverts. Listen to pirates or R4 in the car.
  24. the air ambulance is a Virgin copter usually.
  25. got taken to a few when I was a kid, can't remember which was first. Either; Bob Marley at the Lyceum; Pink Floyd at Knebworth; Elton John, Beach Boys and The Eagles at Wembley, all circa 1974/5.
