  1. Usually go to Scotland for Christmas duration so don't bother getting a tree. If I was staying here then I reckon I would put it up around 20th and take it down on 6th Jan. As we are coming back to London for Hogmanay this year for the first time in ages I will stick up some decorations, no tree though.

Ha ha - good point ratty! Nice to know that this couple felt relaxed and open enough with their emotions to let it all out. Shame on the other shoppers who couldn't handle it. Would have made my shopping experience all the more interesting!

Ecstasy and marijuana have very little, if any, 'physical' dependency, amphetamines and cocaine have a slightly increased 'physical' dependency, not sure where heroin lies on the scale of physical dependency but there definitely is one, just as there is with alcohol and nocotine, in fact I think in studies that have been done, alcohol and nicotine come out as creating the highest physical dependency. The issue is the tendency towards an addiction that the user will have, if there is an addicitve, destructive nature then that will manifest itself, whether by an addiction to heroin, alcohol or shopping! There is no differentiation between the drugs really. How many lives are ruined by alcohol abuse? Is that going to change if alcohol is prohibited? It's been tried and it didn't work. Education is what is needed. There will always be people who do things to excess. We have to remember that getting into an altered state of mind has been part of the human psyche since we had a psyche!
  4. The man I'm with now and have been for the last 15 years who is the father of my two children, is my 'childhood sweetheart', so to say it's wrong to go back is not always true. We both had long-term relationships after splitting up at age 18. BUT - your chap is with someone else and personally I wouldn't go there if that is the case, even if all you want is a bit of light relief now and again. It's too complicated and people could end up getting hurt, you included. Sorry if that's not want you want to hear but as you said yourself his current relationship is 'fairly serious'. If he's the kind of guy to mess her around, he'll mess you around too.
  5. Aleesha to win. Matt is lovely as is Gethin. I agree with your predictions. Sharon to go , she's a clodhopper and wouldn't have got this far if she wasn't a gor blimey eastenders stalwart who keeps blubbing. Sadly old Kenny is as wooden as they get and has to go too. Love it!
  6. Went to Ganapati recently after the recommendations on here. (not convinced)
  7. Mr Asset says: We once rode round France (and I mean the perimeter) in '95 and Asset found the pillion so comfortable she nearly fell asleep several times. It was a great machine, classic muscle bike (the first Suzuki 4 stroke), although whilst the same colour, it had flatter bars, three discs and alloy wheels. Still, one reason I don't have one now is because I would never cycle (and get fat).

Sorky has answered for me Maurice. I'm not suggesting anything except perhaps some thought going into a different way of dealing with drugs and their attendant issues than has been in recent history.

Um, just a point about the 'middle class recreational drug use'. Firstly there is a distinction between 'abuse' and 'use' and second if there was no prohibtion then the money spent would not line the pockets of big crime cartel types. It may line the pockets of government though (poss same thing). I'm all for recreational drug use as you can probably tell. That doesn't mean I don't think about the exploitation and nastiness that surrounds the industry. Until governments realise that they cannot dictate which drugs we can and can't take; i.e medical pharmaceuticals ok, recreational pharmaceuticals not ok, the problem of crime surrounding drugs will continue. Should we all stop doing these things because we are told to or should governments listen to the majority of people who are able to use recreational drugs without causing any harm to others. My view and I know it doesn't sit well with other people's but as has been proven many times prohibition does not work, what is needed is a sensible outlook.

Not really Maurice, you ask someone who has experience of living with an alcoholic. It is equally as destructive, just the addict may not descend into crime due to the ready availability of the drug. It is drug ignorance to think there is a difference. Just like it is possible to be a moderate user of alcohol, equally it is possible to be a moderate user of heroin. Addiction is a different issue.
  12. Generally, 30ish quid. We have about 10 people to buy for so it's easily ?250 and that's before cards, wrapping paper, travelling home etc. I tend to give practical presents for Christmas, more personal gifts for birthdays.

I'm not sure if I'm bursting in here, I've kind of skim read this thread but it seems to be descending into the 'drugs bad' argument that we hear trotted out all the time. OK, CWALD has had a dependency on heroin in the past, this caused her to make some bad decisions - drug trafficking and alleged prostitution. Fair enough and she's dealt with it, done the crime and done the time. So what, she's risen above it and has learnt from the experience. This should not either detract from or add to her political ambitions. The comment made earlier about how could a mother do that to someone else's children is rubbish and does not wash. Those sensibilities do not come into it, as LozzyLoz comments, we need to look closer to see why certain children descend into addiction. As was pointed out earlier, alcohol is freely available and is just as destructive a drug as heroin or crack in the wrong situation. Prohibition does not work, this has been proven time and time again. EDIT: spelling
  15. none yet (had food poisoning last week though), kids just developing snotty noses for first time though so I may not be far behind.
  16. Not everyone Keef - just me, and I'm not questioning. Just trying to work out if it's an hysterical over-exaggeration or not. Obviously not, it must have been very traumatic for all concerned.
