I?m always amused by the way people reckon lights in the sky = aliens! Instead of trying to find out what they really were. Anyway everyone knows aliens don?t use spaceships anymore.

Human nature that. We are attracted to the things that afflict us. Like the few people I know from uni who went on to do the 7 years to become psychologists are stone bonkers, every one. Proper disturbing nuts too. Not your amiable, wears nothing but a floral mac and barks at dogs on the bus nuts but full-on, deep-set eyes, down-lit, framed by a broken window on a storm-lashed night kinda nuts.

Yeah give kids 5 years to learn how to use their guns while sober before they start using them while drunk. Makes perfect sense.

Have you noticed this week?s hobby horse? Underage drinking! Actually the BBC is also guilty of this one. Apparently the solution is to up the legal drinking age to 21. Surely doing that will just increase the amount of underage drinkers? :-S If it were up to me I would drop the age to 16 and hey presto most of the problem goes away. I really should go into politics.

I don?t see a problem with overreacting to crime if the result of said overreaction is a practical solution and less crime. If the result is public hysteria to fuel newspaper sales or help politicians manipulate public opinion then there in lies the problem.

Flying British Airways from South Africa to England a while back I asked if they had any British newspapers so I could get back up to speed with current events etc. All they had was 5 copies of the Daily Mail.

While milling over this thread last night I was also funnily enough thinking about the idea that the act of observing something affects the outcome, but I also don?t know enough about it. Can it be applied to everything around us or is it one of those rules that only start to apply at the sub-atomic level?
