  1. Why don't you just put a sign on your door to say "no free magazines" please. I have a sign on my door saying "no unaddressed mail and no free newspapers". It has massively reduced the amount of nonsense i get through the letterbox.

No one twigged for 30-odd > years until the day someone pointed out the joke. I had to google this because i didn't get the joke! It doesn't really work as a gag with an Irish/Scottish accent. PS - Also heard a woman calling out "BEYONCE!!!" in a park in Dublin.
  3. I've only just noticed this! Thank you rasaygirl. I knew someone on here would know!
  4. Just realised that I posted as "weequinnie", 'cause I'm on my wife's computer. Ooops. Evildrwallace
  5. That sounds like the same thing, Nigello, and I am just between Goodrich and Crebor, so very near you. I have tried identifying it on the RSPB website and similar but, so far, the only thing I can find that sounds like it is an Australian Barking owl. I will try to make a recording and post it here to see if anyone can tell us what it is.
  6. I hear an owl quite regularly - I'm in the vicinity of goodrich school.
  7. I could be wrong but i think there might be one in Dulwich library.
  8. Apologies if the following is very obvious.... 1. Only heat the rooms you're occupying, and keep doors closed. 2. Thick curtains - keep them closed whilst it's dark. 3. RE - radiators - yes gas is cheaper than electricity. 4. Have you got chimneys/open fires? If you are not using them, cover them up to prevent loss of heat. I live in a 3 bedroom house (semi detached) without double glazing or cavity wall insualation (unfortunately). My combined gas/leccy bill is about 80 quid a month. ETA - Also, you will find it a lot warmer if you don't sit immobile gazing at the internet for hours on end - moving around will make you feel much more comfortable.

I think it is a joke - his/her other posts refer to kids aged 3 and 8 - both girls.
  10. There appears to be a new shop/business opening on north cross road, in the premises that used to have all the art shows. Does snyone know what it is?
  11. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Do you have a picture of the leaves? > > ETA: And/or a picture of the whole plant showing > the shape of it? Sue the outline of the whole plant is similar to verbena bonariensis.
  12. More pics/clearer pics: BTW - I don't think it is a chamomile type - the leave shape is more like a spinach shape leaf than feathery.
  13. Sorry for it being a bit blurry. The stems are long and thin, and the flowers are small with pointed/triangular white petal and a raised yellow centre.
  14. The garden centre on NCR has closed down as far as I know. Thanks for the heads up on Croxted Rd though.
  15. People, can anyone point me in the direction of where i can get a smallish bag of horticultural grit for potting up my cuttings? ED DIY doesn't have it. Also Alleyns in West Dulwich is out of stock at the mo. Am really lost without the garden centre by the station.
  16. I too would be interested in the clay pots!

The section you bought is signficantly > larger than any whole garden (particularly the > width) I've ever seen in ED. Was this a house in > ED? Yes I have a big garden by ED standards - it pretty much doubled the size of my garden. My garden is L-shaped btw - so instead of having 3 gardens adjoining me, I now have 6. As for the valuation - i am related to an estate agent on LL, I asked his advice. He told us that it was quite a tricky one to estimate as in his opinion, the transfer of land would knock more off the value of our neighbour's house than it would add to ours. All of the sums he mentioned were a lot lower than what is mentioned further up this table. We bought the land specifically to garden in, and our deeds forbid building, and there is no access to the road from the new bit - so I can't see that there is a development potential, btw.
  18. Hmm. I bought a section of my neighbour's garden about 2 years ago. It is about 60 ft by 90 ft (the bit i bought). I paid a lot less than Dr Soto's formula might suggest.
