  1. Here's a section from the 1916 OS map showing the building on the corner of Upland Road and Crystal Palace Road as a police station. I'm guessing it remained a fully operational police station until the opening of the purpose built police station in Lordship Lane And an extract from a map dated 1969
  2. Now the site of what's known as The Dutch Estate. Here's a bit of background again from the Dulwich Society website: "The Council acquired the site from the Dulwich Estate in March 1960. The existing old houses on the site were relatively large and, by the late 1950s, were in very poor condition; as their leases were due to expire in 1964. A report at the Dulwich Estate’s Finance and General Purposes Committee on 27th February 1960 confirmed that this land (the sites of Nos. 131-173 (odd) and 90-140 (even) East Dulwich Grove and ‘Lyncote’ and ‘Ferrodene’ Green Dale) was to be leased to Camberwell Council for 200 years from 25th March 1960 together with the benefit of the leases expiring on 25th March 1964. The ground rent was to be £750 up to that date and £1600 per annum thereafter." https://www.dulwichsociety.com/the-journal/winter-2010/dulwich-estate
  3. I received a LARGE parcel last week, definitely delivered by our usual RM van driver and not by Parcel Force and tracked on Royal Mail website. I'm round the corner from Lacon Road and received two other smaller packages last week sent 48 hour tracking which arrived within the 48 hours- despite tracking showing they went from the Midlands via Aberdeen to East Dulwich.
  4. It used to be called the East Dulwich Hotel, here is a link to a photo showing it from 1934 https://www.alamy.com/photograph-of-east-dulwich-tavern-east-dulwich-london-the-main-side-of-the-print-shown-here-depicts-corner-on-view-of-the-pub-the-back-of-the-print-available-on-request-details-trading-record-1934-1961-for-the-east-dulwich-tavern-east-dulwich-london-se22-8ew-as-of-july-2018-owner-antic-image560786129.html Earliest advert I could find is from 1880 which can't have been long after it was built - no sign of it on the 1870 OS map.
  5. Good luck with hoping Andy Simmons will see your message - he hasn't logged in for 15 years
  6. I think it was an estate agent, can't remember which, in my mind they all merge into each other
  7. Contrasts with my experience at Health Matters last week who took me straight to it with 3 different versions
  8. I believe charity shops pay reduced business rates but the rent charged by a landlord is purely a commercial decision regardless of the type of tenants.
  9. Is this satire as well?
  10. I think it just applies to repeat prescriptions and includes the time the request spends at the GPs waiting approval. When I've taken in a paper prescription from my dentist it's been dealt with in the time I've popped to m&s and returned
  11. They have a note up now to say to allow 7 days for a prescription to be ready and on the 7th day for my latest prescription I did receive a text to say it was ready so things are taking a lot longer and I think this applies to all pharmacies. I've started to use their app which seems OK but still settling in. I would say I've always found them helpful and courteous.
  12. They never answer when I call either so don't even bother trying now.
  13. https://www.thetimes.com/uk/london/article/forget-amandalands-soha-the-real-tribe-is-the-east-dulwich-mums-6fnq73l6z A link to the article which doesn't require a subscription: https://archive.is/xgkc5
  14. Just to say my practice has sent me to TJ for a few appointments, including Saturday and Sunday at short notice, with both nurse and doctor. The service is completely separate to the GP practice based at TJ and is run by the Extended Primary Care Service, I believe on behalf of several GP practices in the area. "The Enhanced Access Service provides patients in south Southwark with additional GP and nurse appointments. This means that there is primary care available seven days a week. On any given day, these appointments help a GP practice to manage their capacity and provide care for their patients even if their own appointments are fully booked. We offer enhanced access arrangements within south Southwark." https://www.ihlsouthwark.co.uk/enhanced-access-service
  15. So ... this begs the question, is it OK to cull those who are neither intelligent or pretty?
  16. I've only been in the store once as I found the layout of the shelving units that go from side to side rather than front to back unfriendly and off-putting and does not draw the customer in.
  17. Saw my first daffodil this morning
  18. Pullens Yards - probably a better location for them, there are a number of crafts and artisan businesses there.
  19. The weekend fun runners hanging their bags and coats on it at the start of their run can't have done it much good
  20. As most customers going to M&S do not get there via North Cross Road and most people going down North Cross Road are not going to M&S that's not really surprising
  21. You copy the address in the URL and then paste here
  22. Off the top of my head, there are notice boards in Sainsbury's and the library where small businesses can advertise, not to overlook the internet and forums such as this which these days is where very many go to first for small business information. I find it strange that you are mounting this crusade to allow small businesses the right to advertise in the Community noticeboards when there are so many alternatives these days. As I said before, the Community noticeboards are too small to accommodate commercial notices and would probably overwhelm and obscure the NFP notices. For info, during the week there is just as broad a mix passing by the NXR boards as the one by the station
  23. Where to begin? I'm middle class and am quite happy for them to be used for information about voluntary/not for profit/non commercial events, they should not be used as a means of free advertising for businesses, small or otherwise, they are just not large enough. Commjnity groups do not have the money to advertise to increase awareness of the services they offer. The examples you have given which you would like to see them used for may reflect your own priorities but the community of East Dulwich reflects a much wider range of interests and requirements. The notice boards were introduced in 2011 when East Dulwich had already gentrified and their purpose discussed in the EDF thread announcing their arrival.
  24. Huge fast flowing burst waterman outside Harris's Girls School extending some way into Peckham Rye Park. Wear your wellies Edit: probably a burst sewer pipe
