It worked for me, another Peckham gatecrasher, but I had to wait a bit.

Like Davedavedavedave? I'm also a long time lurker but will be running the race on Saturday, with three mates. Look out for four eejits dressed as upper class twits.

Look forward to seeing you all there!

I've lived in East Dulwich for over 30 years, living just off Barry road for the last 4 years and this is the first time i've ever heard of this, it sounds excellent. Can anyone run? I may just take a walk out to Barry Road to cheer everyone on, drinking and walking rarely works for me so i haven't a hope in hell of running after some booze... will train for next year...lol lol

Good luck everyone who is running.

Tradition has it that during this "warm up" the BarryBear(s) will be on display in the Plough Beer garden, which today may also contain a Children's birthday party (!)

There will then be an our or so of nervous anticipation/hilarity as new runners mingle with old, on a sunny day in East Dulwich to race the Barry Barry Mile for a luminous china bear.

Volunteers will then collect drinks money and orders from the runners, a pint and a short for both ends of the race and a Barry advance party will set off down Barry Barry Road for the Clockhouse, proudly carrying the Barry Bear for the lucky winners.

Then after much longer than expected and some barry chaos, the race will start on SurfBobbys command, as scores of runners down their drinks and peg it down Barry Barry Road avoiding such dangers as "Goodrich Road" and the now legendary "Underhill Junction" surprising confused pedestrians, builders and small children.

There will then be AWE inspiring scenes at the Clockhouse as runners try to down their last pint and shot... Often the fastest runner is not the best drinker - as in last years drama in the final seconds. Random events or "happenings" can occur en route creating new traditions which are then carried forward to the next years run.....

To top it all off, much respected special guest Station Master Barry Marshall from Southern Trains may be on hand to present prizes to the winners. Truely Barry.

May today be a feast of non-atheleticism, may the wind be at your back and above all - may your day be BARRY.

Surfbob and myself are just back from Eastbourne where we have been cheering on North of Scotlnd Tennis in the Counties tourney.

Bit of a late one but we stayed up in divison 1 so well worth the travel and extra training for today.

Will be in Plough shortly to meet you all and take you through some gentle warm ups.

As always, LASERS SET TAE MALKY..........CHARGE.......

A great day had by all I'm sure. i've only just got in and settled and i was at the plough for 1pm. Thats to surfbobby and help-ma-boab for organising and Anna for helping on the day.

hope we can sort out something for next year.

Thank you all. A Barry day. The left over kitty money, 100 poonds, will go tae the ms society. See you next year. Mega thanks sue, sean et al for admin and of course station master Barry for the prizes, pure barry eh no!

Yeah, who was it?

Hopefully not any of those 'athletes' we saw hopping on the 12 around the corner from the Plough...

We later met a handsome, smartly-dressed gentleman in a hat walking past 'homemade'; he claimed to be the runner-up!

Results and photos please...

My friend shot a two-part video of the race from an upstairs window about halfway down Barry Road. (The video's in two parts because he thought all the runners had passed, but then suddenly the second phalanx hove into view!) Here it is on YouTube:

Champions all - bravo!

Congratulations to Hannah and Greg!!

Eventually, can we have our bears back please? Keep them for a few months, but we need them back for next year. The idea is that they will be kept on display at the Clockhouse Pub.

    • Dog kennel isn't a great name for a school. I agree that it's ridiculous for the name to put anyone off going there, but don't see any issue with them rebranding if the parents and children prefer a new name. The school is surrounded by historical 'groves' (reflected in the names of Camberwell Grove, Grove park and Grove Vale for example), so it's not a totally random name.
    • It might help if there are body cams to record evidence and a presence maybe a deterrent but I very much doubt a park warden would intervene with obnoxious and violent thugs - children or not. We need police for that.
    • I had a leaky toilet cistern and Niko came out the same day and not only fixed the leak but thoroughly cleaned off the years of calcium build-up. His attention to detail was matched by his kind humanity. The result was a completely renovated toilet which has never worked more efficiently as well as 'service with a smile'. MANY THANKS NIKO!!!
    • I am trying to find out about people's experiences of the 4+ and 7+ assessments. I am a teacher and have a wealth of experience tutoring for theses assessments (including my own son), but it's always good to keep on top of things as they always make tweaks to them. TIA!
