Just found this on the planning portal. The existing newsagent at 100 Lordship Lane, 'ED Local', looks like it will be sharing the space with a branch of Subway aka 'eat fresh'. Guessing it will be a franchise? What does everyone think? Welcome addition? Will be handy if it's open late for the post night life crowd wanting a snack on the way home.

I'd leave out the "borderline" :)

And damn, I too thought we were getting a subway under the road! Maybe at that nasty junction opposite The Bishop,!

Can't say the thought excites me but ED, like a lot of gentrified London, has become a place of two parallel lifestyles and there are plenty of people who will probably find it more to their liking and their pocket than W Rose, Moxon's or Franklins.
Their bread is rubbish- they must have employed someone to investigate how much air you can pump into bread before it collapses....also- what is that horrible sour smell in their shops...I have been in several with other people and they all smell weird?

I think you're kind of missing the point. It's not competing with Boulangerie Jade or Brick House... it's more of an alternative to fried chicken or a kebab.

Everything on the menu is 'reformed meat'.

You'd do far better getting a lamb or chicken wrap from Kebab and Wine, or felafel, for a similar price.

The 12" meatball marinara contains more salt than the recommended daily total for an adult, 42 grams of fat (18g saturated, almost 100% RDA for adult women) and over 1000 calories. Never eaten anything from them myself but friends who have tell me it's actually pretty revolting too!

They might not have very healthy components to their offering, but I reckon almost all local food options - including the new MEATLiqour and Franco Manca, are not exactly 'healthy', cheese, fatty meats, bread bases. When you're on a budget something like Subway is a good addition compared to fried chicken and greasy kebabs, the other local budget options. At least it contains salad.

A shish, potentially. But not a doner, no way. K&W don't do falafel.

    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
    • Sorry Sue - me again. This has been on my mind all day, it's a big bug bear of mine. If you don't mind - please can you private message me some of these shops so I can cross reference / add to my AVOID list.  Thanks in advance. Let's make sure this doesn't happen this Christmas, particularly as we head into sales season. Even more problematic in my experience.
    • Pity you didn't quote what you are referring to, Mal. I didn't see the previous post, and my mind is boggling 😮
