"Yeah & I've been in both their company, only this week "

I know it's AMAAAAAAAZING but I DO have an "ear" for this stuff...

W**F

I had a tenuous link

Apparently my great great great great grandfather, Michael Barrett was the last man to be publically hung in England. But... my Mum read a piece on him on the internet recently and it said he didn't have any children!

My grannys second cousin was the photographer who took the photo of the tennis player with her bum out.

My first cousin once-removed (mother's side) went to high school in Texas with Willie Nelson. My mother went to a different high school, but she remembers meeting a young Willie Nelson. She remembers him as a nice boy who always had his guitar with him. Also, my high school history teacher went to school with Farrah Fawcett and her sister. Then there are Sting and his wife who were camping next to me at a festival a few years back, though I was too busy getting trashed with my mates to notice what they were up to. And finally, The White Stripes were rumored to be staying in the suite above us at Zetter Hotel in Clerkenwell (which is incidentally owed by an acquaintance of mine, and I highly recommend a stay there!). They were really quiet and went to bed early apparently, while we stayed up partying into the wee hours.

I once sold a shirt to Billy Ocean.

Well, I say sold, he came in, plucked it off the shelf, I wrote the receipt, he gave me the money, I bagged it and passed over his change and then he just got going.

There were little or none of my salesman skills involved.

His real names Leslie Charles by the way, I knew that without Googling.

So perhaps he paid by cheque after all. Rather than cash.

You know what, we're just going to have to wait for the autobiography for the truth on the matter.

I once exchanged a shirt for Mickey Dolenz.

The one he purchased originally was too small for him. The dopey sod.

Anyway he came in, I put the originally purchased shirt back in stock, supplied him with a new one of apt size and altered his original receipt to reflect the updated transaction.

And I altered it good.

Although at the time I didn't use the phrase "Drummers from The Monkees, I sh!t 'em"

I kinda wish I hadda.

Still.

I went to school with the guy who runs the company that produces the Tweenies. He was a couple of years ahead of me - did some stuff on Jackanory before he invented the Tweenies. I think he was in the same year as John Bell who you sometimes hear on Thought for the day on R4. Incidentally, the same school that Alexander Fleming attended many decades before.

    • That a shocking story.  Spurs?  You appear to be lost.  Haringey is very much the other side of the river.
    • Every year they ask for more and every year it is an exhausting process pushing back on that for local residents and councillors. What annoys me is that at the post event consultation/ feedback this year, I specifically asked them if the rumours around applying for two weekends next year were true. They told me no. So that was a lie. Anyway, we go again.
    • Double In New or great condition  Or super comfortable air bed Any1 pls
    • Rant ahead: You're not one of them but unfortunately, there's a substrate of posters here that do very little except moan and come up with weird conspiracy theories. They're immediately highly critical of just about any change, and their initial assumption is that everyone else is a total fucking contemptible idiot. For example: don't you think that the people who run the libraries will have considered the impact of timing of reconstruction on library users? (In fact, we know they have - because they've made arrangements at other libraries to attempt to mitigate the disruption). After all, these are the people that spend their whole working week thinking about libraries and dealing with library users (and the kids especially). You don't go into the library game for the chicks and fame - so it's fair to assume that librarians are committed to public service and public access to libraries, including by kids. Likewise the built environment people (engineers, architects, construction managers, project managers, construction contractors, subcontractors or whoever is on this job) are told to minimise disruption on every job they do. The thing that occurs to us as amateurs within 30 seconds of us seeing something is probably not something a full time professional hasn't thought about! Southwark Council, the NHS, TfL, Dulwich Estate, Thames Water, Openreach - they're not SPECTRE factories filled with malevolent chaosmongers trying to persecute anyone. They're mostly filled with people who understand their job and try to do their best with what they've been given - just like all of us. Nobody is perfect or immune from challenge, and that's fair enough, but why not at least start from the assumption that there's a good reason why things have been done the way they have? Any normal person would be pleased that their busy, pretty, lively local library is getting refurbished, and will have more space and facilities for kids and teens, and will be more efficient to run and warmer in winter. But no, EDT_Forumite_752 had kids who did an exam 20 years ago, and this makes them an expert on library refurbishment who can see it's all just stuff and nonsense for the green agenda and why can't it all be put off... 😡😡😡
