I saw that the other day when I ran past it. I had assumed someone had died by the side of the road, and it had all gonre a bit overboard in the grieving stakes.....Can anyone shed some light?

The line used to serve the Crystal Palace, with stations where Brenchley Gardens is now in Honor Oak/Forest Hill & at the Forest Hill end of Lordship Lane. Think it lasted until the 50s. There's still a tunnel and bridge there.

I read somewhere that the chapel was part of one of the villas there. But I wonder why they were left to ruin?

An old West Indian guy, he lived in a white painted brick shed at the top of the woods bordering Sydenham Hill near Crescent Wood Road. Lived there for years, harmless chap, took to painting the shed occasionally and adding graffiti as required. I think it was demolished after he died a few years back.

This was a guy who crashed his car a few months back, it is likely to cause another accident as it has got so over the top now, photos, statues even lit up with solar lights. The man who lived in the shack went to live in old peoples home in sydenham hill, his name was Soloman.
And before he lived in the shack he used to live in an old VW camper van on Oakhurst Grove for about 6 months. Was right near where I lived at the time, the tax disk had run out in 1976!! Don't know how he managed, it was all through the winter. Nice chap.

I was sadly driving past there a little while after it happened. Road closed off and lots of emergency vehicles. My osteopath, who I was going to visit said he had walked past there whilst it was still being tended to by ambulances. He thought more than one person died. I was led to believe that it was a number of men from the same Irish family. Could be wrong. Very, very sad. The shrine doesn't look unlike those found all over Italy.

It is a little over the top. I have no idea why but I took a photo on my phone the other day as I walked by. There's not much alese to see on that road I guess.

I drove past just after the accident one saturday a year or so back. large silver mercedes in one of those states where you just know no one has walked away.

    • Hi fellow forum-ers,  I am in need of getting out of a (mutually) toxic relationship with my husband, but cannot afford to buy or rent anything half decent in the area. I would like for the children not having to change schools and friendship group, their training club etc to maintain some level of stability through the storm. I am looking for a house share with someone in the same position as me who is willing to share rent/bills/chores and... life! Or, maybe, a not so young person who needs help with cleaning, washing, shopping and cooking and has a couple of bedrooms to spare and can do with some extra cash. My children are 17, 14 and 10 well behaved and used to be respectful around people's houses (we're seasoned home exchangers). The eldest is in a fishing school (don't ask) outside London and only comes home for the weekend. The other 2 are into sports, so often training or in competitions during the week/weekend.  If you are interested or know someone who is, please DM me. I know it's a long shot, but I hope somewhere out there someone is able to help us. Also, if you're being through this and can offer advice, that is also welcomed. In case you're wondering, my husband is disabled and won't leave the house (and it seems unfair that we ask him to).
    • Hi, My automatic nissan juke, much to my shock, having only done 50,000 miles needs a new gear box. Trying to decide to replace gear box or buy a second hand car - always thought Japanese cars were reliable and guess I have just been unlucky. Any advice greatly received - to buy a second hand car or replace gear box. If buying second hand would one suggest dealership or private garage ?? Thank you.
