Sundays. My Dad would drop me off at my Gran and Grandads. He and my Grandad would go to Hawkins Colliery WMC to play dominoes (loudly) and drink pints of Banks' Mild Ale. I stayed with my Gran being stuffed with Kayligh (sherbet) and boiled sweets - watching:

Proper wrestling (Mick McManus, Big Daddy, Kendo Nagasaki, et al)

and

UFO or Space 1999 or The Invaders

and reading the Mighty World of Marvel, Spiderman and The Silver Surfer - most of which I still have.

I would then go home, full of sweeties and get shouted at by my sainted Mother for not eating the Sunday roast.

Keef - I have HUNDREDS of comics that go back over 30 years (mostly Marvel - UK and US). They are stored at a mates house (my psuedo-brother) awaiting my purchase of some IKEA storage shelves.

Space 1999 - loved the shows and the Matchbox models of the space-ships that actually fired the nose-tip missiles.

Don't remember Captain Britain, was he a rip off of Capt America by any chance? I have always been a Spiderman fan, which is why at my age I was still excited when they made the films (and think they've been quite true to the comics). And yes, I do remember Spiderwoman but there were different versions of her, one with a Spideman type outfit, and another with a dark outfit and white hair if memory serves.

Aaaaanyway, back on the TV theme, one of my favourites from my early teens on Sunday mornings (I think) Saved by the bell! I so fancied Kelly, and actually thought Zak and Slater were pretty cool... Oh Dear.

He he, did you hear about Screech dancing for nickels as he's destitute now?

Oh yeah, remember that android. Canadanians obsess about it. I've a funny feeling it's continued indefinitely a la the bill.

It's now "Degrassi Thirtysomething - Whinging About 3-Wheeled Prams" or something.

How weird, Android that was going to be my next post. It started as The Kids of Degrassi Street or something like that, and then went on to Junior High, and dealt with issues like sex (and how you shouldn't have it), and bras...

I looked on youtube and found a scene that I actually remembered clearly when the boys were being very mean to a girl about her first bra, and shouted "you're so flat the walls are jealous", only for her mates to throw him in the swimming pool... Hmm, TV brass.

    • Ohh dear.  Fireworks can be great fun.  Where I used to live the kids would have firework wars/games.  Watching them was more enjoyable than watching  TV. (Which you could hardly hear due to the pops and bangs).  It's not like anyone/anything could stop them. I would still prefer organised public displays that are affordable.   And I agree that fireworks cause problems for wild life, pets and people.   It seems to be one of those things that just happens so we have to put up with it.  But it is still not as problematic here as in other areas in London - that's for sure.
    • I made sure to set off a few today just to rile you guys up 😇😂 Always looking for something to criticise
    • Ugly...maybe..does it bother me..NO! I think its somehow reassuring to see theres still phoneboxes around. East Dulwich may well be getrified but there may well be some elderly people who don't have mobiles and kids who may have lost theirs adults ditto etc etc. I'd rather keep it than lose it...just because i don't use it does'nt mean its not needed.  there are many eyesores in the modern world not all of them as potentially useful.
    • I strongly recommend Balayage salon in Lordship lane as everytime I visit, they make me feel very spicial with thier profisionalism and care.   I have been going there for the last 10 years maybe more, and will never exchange them for any other. They are profisional, welcoming and they also always have an offer. I feel like a new woman every time. X
