Booze isn't banned from what I've read.

It's a spectator sport. You'd hope some turn up, those who have paid for their tickets legally through the proper channels and not those given freebies from FIFA.

Yes let's hope so.

Build it and they will come

No question shenanigans were involved but I don't see why people think England wouldn't have been involved in those as well. Watching the news is embarrassing "what now for English football?". As if a country needs a world cup to crack on and improve

It doesn't seem very fair, but I guess if your media establishment spend 3 months tearing into corruption at FIFA you're not going to make an awful lot of friends.

I wonder who the single supporter was?

I didn't really expect us to win it, I thought that it would probably be Russia. The reasons you'd vote for England is for the existing facilities, the sporting heritage and the money. It's clear from these votes that the actual criteria for judging was the creation of new facilities, expanding the sport's support base to new audiences, and that cash revenue took a back seat.

In some sense a vote for Russia and Qatar is a vote for a new future, a vote for England is about languishing complacently in the past.

Apparently Cameroon was the other England vote.

Where is the legacy is taking a World Cup to Qatar when they are going to dismantle the stadia and take it to countries that do have a heartbeat for football? Zero culture for football, zero people to fill the grounds, anything but zero money now in the pockets of those who take bribes. Would it have been so bad to have given it to Oz?

If it's all about human rights being cleaned up why don't they just pass it around the whole middle east every 4 years?

I say stuff FIFA and let's get on with PL and CL football!

"The laws of Qatar tolerate alcohol to a certain extent. However, the few bars and nightclubs in Qatar operate only in expensive hotels and clubs, much Distribution Company, the only importer and retailer for alcohol in Qatar. Under Qatar's Sharia, it is illegal to show alcohol or be drunk in public."

    • Oh yes, it could have been about there, I can't remember exactly. At one point there seemed to be a load of pizza places opening on NCR. I vaguely remember the one we used to use was put out of business by another one which opened. Wasn't Grace and Favour's food offering more of a tea shop at the back of the actual shop? If memory serves the owner, whose name escapes me now, was one of the earliest people I know to move to Hastings. Which must now be crammed with South East Londoners 🤣
