I just built one of these using a Pac Man table top shell, new monitor and a multi-game board. It plays 60 classic arcade games so I've spent the last few days hammering Mr Do, Bomb Jack, Pengo, Pac Man, Ms Pac Man, Scramble, Galaga and Galaxian.

It's superb.

Charlie

Came home and had quick go at a couple of games I bought, Sonic and the black knight is a load of rubbish, I stupidly thought it would be a free roaming game. One for the kids. Red Steel, on the other hand, seems pretty cool, what with Manhunt 2 to continue, and Madworld to start, I have some game playing to do.

Last week I decided to revisit Metroid Prime for Game Cube (played on Wii), and forgot what a blinding game it is! Having now defeated the hardest boss ever (Meta Ridley), I have got to the final boss (Prime), but could face the fight, and will do it later. Now I just have to start Metroid Prime 2 for Game Cube, before I can finally allow myself to buy 3 for the Wii.

Trying in vain to connect my Xbox to my Laptop using an ethernet connection at the moment. The problem seems to be that although Xbox.com reports this: Update Needed

This computer is running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.

To connect your Xbox 360 you?ll need to download Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.

Once your update is complete, return to www.xbox.com/pcsetup to complete your setup.

When I attempt to apply the download it then proceeds to tell me that I dont actually have Windows Media Center 2005. What gwan? When I get to The Microsoft Website it seems to be prompting me to buy Vista so that I can run the blinking thing. Surely there must be an easier way. Answers on a postcard please and all help much appreciated. M.

Yeah just ignore it, it kept telling me the same thing.

You do lose some functionality by not having windows media center on vista, but you can still connect and stream stuff, I managed it.

Just go to videos, shared media and select your pc (which you've already given permission to share with your xbox). Should do the trick, same with the music bit. Persuading it to find your music on your pc can sometimes be a bit tricky though.

bon3yard

you have probably seen this already but just in case

"To obtain Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, visit the Microsoft Windows Update Web site:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/)

Release Date: Oct. 14, 2005

Note To install this update, you must have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 installed. Windows Update detects whether these packages are installed. Windows Update automatically installs these packages for you.

If the 886904 update is installed, you must uninstall the 886904 update before you install Update Rollup 2 for Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. Otherwise, the .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 installation will not succeed.

To determine whether the 886904 update is installed, follow these steps:

Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.

Click to select the Show Updates check box.

In the Currently installed programs list, look for the following item:

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB886904)

If this item appears, you must remove the hotfix. To remove the hotfix, click Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB886904), and then click Remove. Then, visit the Windows Update Web sit to download and install Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005."

3D Realms have gone bust, the company that brought the world Wolfenstein and Duke Nukem. After wait for it, 12 years spent developing Duke Nukem Forever, why 12 years and no release any where in sight. Is it a case of? " Every time we are ready the next gen boxes get released and we have to start again" hypothetical of course but it is a shame, when Doom was king and Quake was a twinkle in it's dadys eye Wolfenstien had a profound affect on me. This was an era of computer games that brought us the first incarnation of texture mapped 3D FPP shooters, Oh well maybe one of the corporates will take up the challenge.

I thought iD did Wolfenstein?

No matter, this is all about DNF as far as I'm concerned. Played the original not so long ago and only then remembered that there was meant to be a sequel. It's not the most shocking news is it - NOTHING can survive 12 years in devlopment can it?

Probabaly

Modern Warfare scared the buggery out of me, whereas WaW just made me feel like Errol Flynn in a '40s propaganda movie

Both these PC game puppies will be in the for sale section soon if anyone is interested

What would people say is the best review site? Gamespot and IGN are the well known ones, but do seem quite tight sometimes with their scores, and have highly rated some games that I think are pretty shite.

Alternitively, has anyone got any games for Wii they'd recommend?

I've recently(ish) bought Manhunt 2 (quite atmospheric, not bad. Not gory at all, as all the killings are done in this blurred vision kind of way). Red Steel (only played the first level, and thought it seemed quite good, despite pretty poor reviews...). Madworld (Have only played a few minutes, stylistically cool, stupidly violent, but think it's going to seriously lack depth, not enough story).

I know for a fact that I have the wrong console for the sort of games I really want (wondering round big free roaming worlds), can't afford to get another console right now though. Bring on another Zelda!!! I enjoy the "family games", but never really have anyone to play multi player with, which kind of makes them a lot less enjoyable.

Am looking forward to the Ghostbusters game coming out in June!

Anyone played Disaster, Day of crisis, or Alone in the dark, Central Park?

    • The Commons Public Accounts Committee questioned both the CEO and MD of Capita yesterday, at their last meeting before the recess:  https://committees.parliament.uk/event/25889/formal-meeting-oral-evidence-session/.  In October they'd already expressed concern that Capita might not  be able to efficiently retake over responsibility for the administration within the timescale. Given the joint statement recently issued by Capita and the Cabinet Office I'm not sure that contacting an MP is going to add much, other than venting what I think most of us can probably appreciate of what those affected are likely  to be thinking and feeling; unless perhaps, and I hope it's not needed, to report on deficiencies in the immediate rescue actions.

    • Two for Ratcliffe, the obvious one:   And one simply because it has the word  "You are nothing but blind fascists" in it.  Oh and a good song too.   Haven't listened to this for years.  Bloody good!
    • It's time to ditch your team, otherwise you could be seen to supporting your owners dog whistle comments (aka racist). Fortunately you can support a local team, I understand that Palace have pretty right on fans, and you have Dulwich Hamlet and Peckham Town too. If you genuinely are from the North West then Everton fans are well rated for their politics (ignore the paving over paradise/loss of UNESCO world heritage status), and of course FC United of Manchester. Salford Town not a bad bet either. For those who are glory hunters dare I say over the river in the North London library aka Emirates (shame they don't rhyme) you have both the likelihood of a title this season and a very multicultural fan base. If you want to be really cool the Welsh speaking team Club Cymric, Forest Green Rovers, or AS Livorno in Italy, an anti-fascist team
