Yep, food is awful. i live about 1 minute walk away so wanted it to be really nice, but its not. Ordered curry sauce with my chips and his scruffy mate was summoned to make the curry sauce which he done by boiling a kettle and pouring it over some kind of powder and stirring it for a while. battered sausage was inedible. Shame, because they were friendly people.

Another vote for Ken?s. After reading the reviews on here, and the positive feedback online I went to get Cod and Chips last night. A decent, old fashioned, good quality fish and chip shop. Rare find in London, more like the fish and chips you would expect on the pier at the seaside. If you?ve not been before, I would highly recommend.

Louisa.

I find the Fish and Chips at Sema and Emily?s grim. None of my family can eat it. We take a trip to Ken?s to pay a fortune for the fish and chips there. Still not the best compared to all the lovely fish and chips we consumed in Dorset but the best out of a bad bunch around here.

Anyone tried the fish and chips at Saucy on LL?

I didn't like Sea Cow. I ordered large haddock and chips once. Got home to discover 2 measly haddocks squashed together! Cheeky. Rosie's is pretty decent but again I ordered rock once and I noticed the fish smelled like ammonia so I couldn't eat it. I guess not that many people order the rock?

edit to say I've been to Rosie's loads and it's usually decent.

Chip shop curry sauce is always made from sort of powder/granules. Absolutely standard.

Saying that, I'm not a massive fan of Emily's either. Fish just not crispy enough.

I get that, but a good chip shop will have a vat/silver cauldron of it made up, kept warm and ready to serve. This is because the chip shop is so good and popular that they need it close to hand.

The way it was prepared, in some old looking coffee mug by a mate in a grubby, paint stained t-shirt didnt make it very appetising, no matter the basic similarities of the actual make up of the sauce.

Curry sauce is common in Liverpool, Manc, Leeds chippies... much more so than London. And a quick Google seems to indicate that it's big in Ireland. Not sure about Wales... don't go there much...

Glad someone else remembers Steve?s, bob. Corner of Bellenden and Maxted Road. I remember going in there from childhood right up until the late 80?s. Italian family. They sometimes chucked in some batter crackling if you were a regular. Now THAT was a proper fish and chip shop.

    • Big recommendation for Stephen Viccary who has created a magnificent bathroom for us. Quality of work is absolutely top notch. We couldn't be happier - see pics.  Stephen is considerate and tidy meaning working from home during the work was fine (some noise - obviously, it is a demo and installation after all. He does not work on multiple jobs, does a full days work and does ALL the work himself - Tiling, plumbing, lighting (including lighting on a motion sensor under the vanity and in the shower niche - for night time visits 😉), he even changed the door architraves, sorted the badly cracked ceiling and did all the paint work. A full end to end service. Stephen's number - 07941 266 145
    • Highly recommend Dulwich Eco Gardening.  When he came to quote Saied said he’d give our garden back so we could decide what we do next.  Under two weeks of hard work from Saied and Mo and we have the garden back and can see paving I’d forgotten about. Not only did Saied remove our very overgrown greenery. Nature had taken over. He also took back to our fence line overgrown ivy, apple and pear trees and and dealt with a neighbours bamboo that had invaded our garden.  We are now going to get quotes for what we do next so those quoting will be able to see the space.  Saied has suggested someone to quote and will be coming back when he does in case he has any questions or they can work together.  I thought Saied would be a good choice and he was. Quotes from others didn’t leave me with confidence for the end result. That was never a concern with Saied.
    • Having a BBQ (fingers crossed) in 2 weeks and need a small BBQ for veggie bits and any spare benches or garden tables and chairs to borrow to add to mine. Any going? Thanks in advance...
