Two year-old cheesey Carrera = flash git with zero taste and no imagination.

I would never be such an idiot as to drag a key down the side of the latter: I'm already satisfied with the knowledge that the owner is most likely a bit of a cock."

What a childish comment! You are the cock!

So Bob. You think....

"there is no connection between an expensive home entertainment system inside your home for you to enjoy, and a cheesy ?50k style-free car, placed outside your home as a status-symbol for other people to admire/laugh at."

I think we all know from your childish and envious comments that if you were given a "cheesy style free" porsche tomorrow we would be laughing at you! In tears and wetting yourself in admiration and excitement at finally having your wet dreams come true. Anyone who spends as much time as you obviously do on the internet making sweeping statements about very nice hardworking people having their property completely destroyed and laughing about it would not be grown up enough to handle a beautiful, well deserved car.

Thank god we will never have to witness you trying!

See you. Have fun on your forum!

Sorry to be contrary but I like Porsches and hopefully that will be my next car. Each to their own. You certainly cannot know someone from the car they drive, the clothes they wear nor the way they speak. If you think you do then you ought to evaluate how you yourself perceive others.

"Your pal may be a wonderful human being and were I to discover it, I would revise my opinion to that of 'someone who is a wonderful human being - but who has a terrible taste in cars'. If we became good friends, I'd then be at liberty to tell him that he was a flash git and a cock, at which point he'd tell me to piss off and we'd go down the pub."

No let me assure you that he would not go down the pub with you because he is a really nice bloke and he would think you were a "cock".

The thought that a young successful fella, whos got his own business, can afford to treat himself and is liked by everyone on his street, so much so that his neighbours are willing to defend him on an internet forum, would ever want to go down the pub and have a drink with some sad loser who spends most of his time on the East Dulwich Forum is pure fantasy land.

But then again, it would seem THAT is where YOU spend most of your time.

Whenever I hear any phrase along the lines of "you're just jealous" I'm automatically reminded of some dodgy Jerry Springer type show where some unfortunate declares she has 16 children and " three of them are older than me - how did that happen?" and when anyone dares to question her choices she just goes "you just jealous..!!!" (this attitude also sums up US foreign policy at the mo, but I digress)

stumpyjack - it's not often I berate newbies, but you are one scary individual. First of all if you are going to say

then at least follow through and bugger off. By hanging around and posting several times further you undermine your following statement - viz:

Johnsuissy seems like a genuinely nice bloke who made a statement, saw the responses, and eventually joined in and actually corresponded with some of us. We agree to disagree re car selection etc but so be it

You on the other hand have genuine problems coping with a wider world and denigrate anyone who doesn't value everything by it's cash value..

2 things will now happen. You will either:

a) not respond

b) respond with some senseless argument, disproving your point that to spend time on this forum is for losers

there ARE other options but I would be amazed if you chose them

Sorry but unlike you this is my first time sampling the sad lonely world of the East Dulwich Forum.

Been busy with life.

And before you say it. The Porsche is not mine. He is the nicest bloke you could ever meet and the childish comments on this site have shocked me so much that I felt he needed defending.

*ahem* Yesterday there were more than 1,100 people who visited this forum, so it's not really that lonely.

Stumpy

Understandably you may well have been hurt, if indeed you know the owner of the car, but let this one go as it doesn't really show anyone in a good light. Stick around and you'll see that it is actually a good place to mix with other people. You may find your forum-phobia goes away. If not then so long, but please now desist with the negativity.

no, I don't use Facebook, it's a bit too "cock" for my liking, quite a few people I know and like use it but it's not my thing.

StumpyJack, all I would say is please read all the messages in this topic, I'm guessing you haven't read it through to the end before you posted.

No downsouth i agree, it doesn't show any of you in a good light. It shows you to be nasty, jealous, vindictive, possesion obsessed, judgemental little men. And the person that did this to my neighbours car is a very ill paranoid schizophrenic who is now being helped to get the support he needs by his neighbours including of all people the "flashy git" and "cock" whos car was destroyed.

stumpy - I don't agree with anything you have posted but you are clearly upset beyond any obvious reason. Almost to the point where I would retract some of my earlier comments and solicit a less confrontational debate.

If you re-read the thread (actually, don't - no-one has that much time) no-one supports keying of a car or any other suffering incurred by your neighbour. Many of us would empathise. But you are taking several quotes out of context and calling people names which aren't warranted

There is a difference between an external display of wealth and comfort (let's say a car made by.... someone other than Porsche) and a dialogue between many people in the local community - losers or no. It's anyone's opinion as to which is sadder. We have al expressed which side of the fence we are on

But no-one one here is celebrating your neighbours misfortune

    • This week's edition of The Briefing Room I found really useful and impressively informative on the training aspect.  David Aaronovitch has come a long way since his University Challenge day. 😉  It's available to hear online or download as mp3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002n7wv In a few days time resident doctors -who used to be known as junior doctors - were meant to be going on strike. This would be the 14th strike by the doctors’ union since March 2023. The ostensible reason was pay but now the dispute may be over without more increases to salary levels. The Government has instead made an offer to do something about the other big issue for early career doctors - working conditions and specialist training places. David Aaronovitch and guests discuss what's going on and ask what the problem is with the way we in Britain train our doctors? Guests: Hugh Pym, BBC Health Editor Sir Andrew Goddard, Consultant Gastroenterologist Professor Martin McKee, Professor of European Public Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Mark Dayan, Policy Analyst, Nuffield Trust. Presenter: David Aaronovitch Producers: Caroline Bayley, Kirsteen Knight, Cordelia Hemming Production Co-ordinator: Maria Ogundele Sound Engineers: Michael Regaard, Gareth Jones Editor: Richard Vadon
