The Honor oak group sometimes have guest speakers on a variety of subjects: fan museum, aromatherapy, history of playing cards, genealogy, local history. We sometimes have craft demonstrations and have a go: dry felting, block printing etc. We sometimes try new activities - Morris dancing, Nordic walking, crown green bowls, creative writing. We have also had cheese/wine and beer tasting. We have a monthly book group, hold stalls at local fairs etc. A very varied and interesting programme!

Report this to WI HQ and the branch may be told to bifurcate itself.

Hi all, I was on the committee of the East Dulwich WI helping with membership. The list has been closed for some time as there were about 100 ladies on it. There are still around 80 on it and the current committee has been talking about setting up a second WI for some time but needs other people to run it. I suggest you get in touch with the current committee and let them know you're interested in taking it on and you'll have a ready made group if you contact all the people on the waiting list too. http://eastdulwichwi.co.uk/contact-us/ Sarah

    • I know people won’t have any sympathy but the SEND challenge was brought up when taxing parents who have opted for independent school to meet a child’s SEND needs. Funding crisis is getting worse and the VAT on Education pushed children out of independent schools, now their SEND needs are to be met by the state.
    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
    • First mate - I wondered if I was imagining things at 4.45 this morning . Apparently not .
