In my experience it's been consistently rubbish for the last 6 years.

Slow, often poor service, cold overpriced food and aforementioned snootiness.

Fine if you get a bottle of wine from the bar and take it to an outside table yourself on a nice day.

Otherwise avoid.

And I thought it was just me. I was contemplating starting my own thread. A friend and I went to Black Cherry last night after taking a stroll of the Lane. EDT seemed a bit sticky and the food menu was poor. Black Cherry was great. Perfect in fact. Definitely my fave place on the lane so initmate and relaxed and friendly waitress who was on her third day. Anyway I digress, afterwards we went to the Green so i could show my friend some of their wine and beer. But each question we asked was met with derision and contortions of the waitresses face. plus she was busy on the phone to an acquaintance. Needless to say we were only there for a few minutes but knowing my friend if we had received decent service he would have bought a few good wines to take home. Can't say I'm in a rush to be made to feel like that again.

that thread has been started downsouth.

At least once

Sorry you had that experience - I have found them to be tremendous people and and many of us have been for drinks on several occassions - always been a joy

I know Kate (owner) takes criticism very seriously (and well) so I will pass on

I had a birthday party there and they were great. i then went and had a drink there and the waiter brought me something completely different to what i ordered and told me it was my mistake. i then went there with a friend and her child who proceeded to projectile vomit...what goes around, comes around!

anyway, they make really horrible coffee there!

hx

I remember it bgeing relatively expensive, food OK and the plates of chips was HUGE!!

I must admit now thought I would sooner tootle off to the Rye hotel for less than half the price of the green and have some of their astounding vegetarian saugaes and mash

I meean utterly Astounding vegi sauages

    • £30-40 for M&S Christmas food for two seems very low! And only £60 for food and drink for 8-10 people?  We have had M&S food at Christmas in the past, and it came to a lot more than that. I suppose it depends exactly what you are buying. We left it late to book a Christmas Day meal out last year, so there weren't many options left.  The Cherry Tree menu looked very nice. That was our first mistake. We also overlooked the fact that it was a Young's pub, with all that implies about the food. That was our second mistake. We don't have shedloads of money. We  took the view that we deserved a nice meal  out after working bloody hard all year. So it was doubly disappointing to basically waste a lot of money which could have been very much better  spent elsewhere.
    • No sweetheart. It is a fantastic sermon which should be shared. It is a rights-based sermon which received a standing ovation - if you can be bothered to get to the end.
    • Welcome back. What have voting intentions got to do with this thread? And much as you may hate the present incarnation of so-called Labour, as do I,  I don't think it is true that they have "not done a single positive thing for working class people", is it? And how exactly are you defining "working class people", anyway?
    • I can’t bear the media “is this racist comment racist” angle taken to reporting it. I feel like she’s a useful out rider for Farage to test how far they can take their rhetoric - it’s not the first time she’s said things that cross over the line. Overt racism is becoming far more commonplace and it’s deeply concerning.
