Just spoken to manager at Mother Goose, Greendale - they will be sending a text shortly advising parents to collect their children sooner rather than later if they can.

I am leaving now as I am nearby, but I don't think there are any specific problems in the area at the moment and she did stress it was up to individual parents.

I listened to BBC radio 4 yesterday & Bernie Grants daughter was on there, a very eloquent lady with a well formed view.

She was talking about the recent killing in Tottenham & comparing it with other incidents, like the Joy Gardener case. Previously in such situations the police have met with and local community groups & their leaders, explaining the details to them. They in turn then disseminated this information to the local community, maintaining an open dialogue with the police, which is both helpful & important.

However, she said in this particular case the Police weren't forthcoming in meeting or discussing the incident with the community leaders as in the previous cases, leaving a 4-5 hour gap before making any sort of positive communication.

Is this kind of liaison ad hoc or is it formalised.

What's the official line from The Met.

I'm saying what I was told and should have been more specfic: the person I spoke to in Sainsburys said it was POLICE advise they had received, telling them to close the shop. I'm not panicking people. Whether they feel that Sainsburys, or any other shop for that matter, closing is cause to panic - that's up to them.

my friend at the victoria has said that police have told all traders on bellenden road to close for same reason, and that the bishop has called them to say that LL is currently being trashed

anyone confirm or deny?

if these reports are true then i reckon the media have been told not to report, as it exacerbates the problems

I don't know, but I did see a ? former police commander on ? Newsnight saying that the IPCC had a family liaison function in such cases, and criticising them for being a slow-moving organisation. Whatever, the large number of Met PR people don't seem to have been very effective. I wonder if they were consulted, and also why there was such a long interval before the public statement from Mr Duggan's family, that they did not condone the riot.

I came through Camberwell Green around 2pm, and there was nothing happening, except Butterfly Walk had the shutters down, along with many other shops (but perhaps surprisingly, not Gregg's). Unusually large numbers of ambulances around King's though...

Reports on the Honor Oak forum look genuine. One shop manager says Whitgift Shopping Centre Croydon have been told to close and I know this is true as my husband has seen the shops closing up there. He says Croydon stinks of smoke.

There is also a post saying people were asked by the police to leave Crystal Palace park http://www.se23.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=5056&page=1

Walked past Bishop 5 mins ago - nothing happening at moment in LL except shops closing/boarding up and people on way home.

Tells you all you need to know about the type of people doing this and why they're doing it.

I have just driven myself and my kids from st thomas' to east Dulwich via camberwell grove, dog kennel hill and lordship lane and nothing happening.. Central London is very quiet, all police I saw were heading towards Brixton, people sunbathing by camberwell green, lordship lane has loads of traffic and all shops closed wih shutters down wherever possible...

Here's hoping it is all a massive over reaction.....

    • I can't recommend Leon too highly.  He provides a first-rate service.  He's friendly but also professional.  He sorted out my extractor fan which  was running incessantly because another electrician had bodged it. At the same time he saved me buying a new shaver unit which had stopped working when the extractor wouldn't stop running. He was also uncomplaining about having to to go up and down 3 flights of stairs between the bathroom and the electrical power unit. He will definitely be my first port of call for any future electrical issues.  His contact number is: 07707 925039.

    • of course most people would avoid the "stupid" term - but I'm sticking with it fact is no other European would be so dumb, and even with the same information, the  same media, the same everything, 2 of the countries within the UK saw ho stupid an idea it was - but only the English (who played a large part in the Welsh result) pushed ahead - there is something defiantly arrogant and stupid and it isn't just down to bad info and bad leadership But that was all 2016 - it's people in 2025 who claim it to be a good idea executed badly who are especially stupid Now - does calling people stupid help anyone? It's not especially politically gainful and just gets peoples' backs up - but it remains a truth and only when the country as a whole genuinely holds it's hands up and admits the stupidity (rather than downplaying it as a poor decision - no shade meant Mal - you are just nicer and politer than me) will it begin. to turn the tide Also worth mentioning that yes I am as intractable and blunt with friends and family who voted Leave as well - this isn't me hiding behind some online anonymous account. This is what I'm like
    • Hello My name is Lizzie and I work locally as a dog walker and nanny. I won’t be needed over Summer so will have full availability for a dogsitting job. I have a DBS certificate and will provide several dogsitting references as well. Please note that I can only watch your pet at your home since they are sadly not allowed in my flat! Looking forward to hear from you
