where's good to eat out locally?

These are the best for me:

Le querce, great italian (said by an italian), super family friendly

Babur, a bit more refined indian with unusual menu, excellent desserts (mango brulee) and great cocktails

Darthmouth Arms, sometimes very nice meat or pasta based dishes and soups

Locale, pizza only, the other dishes are nothing special

I went to the Crooked Well last week with a couple of friends. Nice vibe, great food. Started with lovely cocktails and had a bottle of Portugese red with our food. The service was excellent - I like that they offer tap water. And the waitrose brought an extra plate for my friend as we'd only ordered two starters for three of us.

Are you joking?

Unless it's got a new chef recently, the food is appalling.

Sema Thai is in a rut, it was in a rut until a few years ago when the tarted up the inside, but then it just went into same rut but with new decor.

They should totally revamp the menu and perhaps include some regional dishes.

The guy who runs it has a mate up in Clerkenwell who owns Thai Rapide, they have some regional pages on the menu and have some great dishes available.

They are not open every night though, or even every Saturday night are they? Think they only do that once a month. Not open Sat in daytime either. Have gone there some days on a lunch break in the week and they weren't open then either. Real shame.

But not so great if you are feeling peckish and need a meal in a hurry.

Totally agree about Meze Mangal, it's on Lewisham Way at New Cross near Celia Hammond. Went last night and ate starters, a main and plenty of red wine for ?22 a head. As midivydale says, nothing much to look at particularly from the outside but the food is fabulous and the place was packed.

If you like fish? On goose green a new fish and chip shop opened called fish and chips and more, the fish is so fresh and pies are really good.for vegi they do butternut squash pie soon their be doing grill fish and mussels,.The fish cakes are yummy comes with salad or chips and carrot cake with a cup of tea goes down well.
Ah, you'll be the Gulc5 who was advertising for staff in your fish and chip shop earlier? It's better (and more believable) if a real and unconnected punter praises your shop, but good luck anyway. I hope you deliver against the expectations you have raised.
Swadesh restaurant on lordshiplane next to the irish shop is a great indian restaurant, they also do a buffet where they also serve you for ?4.95 kids, and ?6.95 for adults drinks are mahussive and very cheap. great food and drink not too spicy and very friendly staff.

    • I can also strongly recommend Lukasz after he completed some floorboard repairs and some complex repairs to skirting damaged through dog chews. He is responsive, punctual, reasonably priced, detail-oriented and his work is to a very high standard.
    • Really? Yes you are probably right as I know from personal experience with Guys… as I claiming travel costs back, that no one told me I could claim! Left hand does not know what right hand is doing regarding admin..  If they charged people for wasting overstretched staff in A& E as in not urgent just might deter people from wasting precious time…. But then you need interpreters, to explain if language is a barrier and admin staff to administer..  Correct me if I am wrong but is there not a train from Denmark Hill or East Dulwich which goes to London Bridge? Would be faster than 2 buses I would have thought.    Oh, forgot about Tessa Jowell but thought you needed GP referral in which case, that would be the place to go rather than a bigger hospital. Know there is one in Beckenham and you can call and they will give you an idea as to wait time…..same I hope at TJ…assuming they answer phone.. If one really things about it…too many  people in London for example and to few hospitals…
    • I don’t think it’s licensed for Sundays. It is licences for Fridays, but there hasn’t been anyone there on a Friday for years. So I doubt it. i think there’s a market at the Horniman on Sundays. Also pretty sure there’s one outside Herve Hill station on a Sunday.
    • I believe there is a minor injuries department at Guys, though I may have misremembered. Not very convenient for SE22 now the 40 no longer goes near. You have to get 2 buses or a train. Charging people (not sure if you mean financially or legally) would waste a lot more time, I would have thought? And  a bad bruise could be serious, depending on the cause and possibly other symptoms.
