uplandrd2020
Love the bread and pastries but even if I run in quickly for bread you need to wash all clothes and hair as they must have no extraction, there is a strong unpleasant smell that lingers in clothes.I have not had this in any of the other Gails, does anyone else find this annoying Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/224291-gails-bakery-smell/ Share on other sites
wolis
My wife also complains of the smell. We think it is of fried onions Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/224291-gails-bakery-smell/#findComment-1333330 Share on other sites

Popped in to buy pumpernickel today and need to wash my hair before bed... amlh
I noticed this too! Annoying as their scones are so perfect I want to return Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/224291-gails-bakery-smell/#findComment-1334108 Share on other sites
HelloDulwich
We have noticed the same. I think it comes from their bread products as I notice it on my clothes if I eat breakfast there. TheArtfulDogger
Not to dismiss your concerns about the smell, but has anyone spoken to the owner about it before coming on here and complaining? It may be something they can easily rectify if they are made aware of it, where as comments on a public forum may not be read by them and potentially will harm their business IMHO a quick quiet word with a business usually works first before public humiliation 🤐 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/224291-gails-bakery-smell/#findComment-1334538 Share on other sites
Maybaby
They aren't an individual, so I hardly think "public humiliation" is fitting here.It might be worth asking about this odour. It doesn't seem natural. I'm not a customer, however, as I don't like their bread. uplandrd2020
Yes I emailed their customer service department, no response at all. They have so many branches now I don?t think they care. herne hilly
i don't go there myself but it sounds like they may have inadequate ventilation/ducting system, and the smell is just a mix of everything they bake remaining inside and becoming a rancid/stale odour.
