katie1997
Ok - so say you've lived in East Dulwich/surrounding area (SE London) for a while now. What would you really miss most if you had to leave it all behind for a year or so? KidKruger
I'd miss the proximity to Afro-carribean and Asian grocery stores on Rye Lane.No being able to pop out on bike and get immediate ingredients would be a real bind. Huguenot
Food's definitely the biggest thing for me :)I'll eat just about anything, but it doesn't mean i'll enjoy it.The endless quest for sausages, pork pies, prawn cocktail crisps and kebabs can be quite a drain ;-)Bread's a pain - I miss the bakers on the corner, but it doesn't keep me awake at night. Otta
Ha ha, I remember having breakfast in a Singapore hotel, and finding some very bizarre looking things on offer. The little white chicken sausages were especially disturbing. El Pibe
Food and food.Off to rural Ireland where deeply suspect Chinese take-away is considered the height of sophistication.I will miss more places than I care to think about.tbh it's more a London thing than an ED thing per se.I'll miss the good folk, but seeing as most of my mates have them have done the Frank and returned to the home counties there's only one or two left to miss!Good ale, though that's an England thing really isn't it.Errrrm. Inside 72...oh. The CPT, had some great times in there....oh.Sunshine? Absolutely! Another very close friend is moving away next week, leaving me with not many left in the area, and the ones that are left will likely be gone in a year or two (one to Ireland, would you believe). PeckhamRose
I've thought about this one, as I have lived in my flat 29 years. I would miss my friends and the wonderful support I get at Kings College Hospital and my local very good Nunhead Surgery. I would miss the incredible views I have across London (Shard topping off nicely and The Building With More On Top is getting bigger than we though!) I would miss Peckham Rye Park. I am a member of The Friends of PRP and also Peckham Society. I think 'belonging' to these things makes one have a better ownership of them. And I would miss the fact that I can get to Thanet in just 80 mins or central London in about 20. I would not miss the snobbery in some areas though, or the overt bible bashing in some other areas! And I wouldn't miss the three flights of stairs it takes to get home! ClareC
We move away next week.... Feel really sad to be leaving friends. Although they are gradually all leaving now anyway! Will miss having everything on the doorstep and the huge choices available for everything but there is good food etc out of London too. Feels odd to be going but for us the benefits far outweigh the losses. Brendan
Apart from friends, the CPT and inside 72?A good variety of pubs with good varieties of beer. Outside of London both are pretty limited.Being able to go to gigs without it being an entire day?s expedition. Stockwell skatepark. woodrot
Once you hit the provinces, your taste and judgement drops to fit your environment.Hello Daily mail, right wingery & shit Italian food and crap bardolinoGoodbye Guardian, objective thinking & interesting food some of this is in jest, but the food in the provinces is proper shit on the whole. El Pibe
You think the provinces are bad, how about the ex colonies?! I keep making the mistake of ordering beef; when will I learn after countless experiences of beef of exceptional quality going into the oven only to emerge a withered, leather sock.Dublin has places equal to London's admitedly, but it's a two hour drive plus no booze unless forking out for a pricey hotel. There are no trains! You lot in E Sussex and Kent have it easy.Still, the Guinness is better. The lager is worse and they don't do potable bitter or ale, but you know, the Guinness is better. That's perhaps a tad unfair, I've eaten in excellent places scattered around the country, it's just that none of them will be any where near me :( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/22558-leaving-se-londonwhat-would-you-miss-most-about-it/#findComment-531758 Share on other sites
titch juicy
not a great deal to be honesti've been living down here for 5 years now, and telling all my north london friends how great the area is- but when i stop and think about it properly, there's nothing here (apart from franks bar in the summer) that isn't done better in several parts of north londonwithout exception, the pubs on lordship lane are average at best- i'm getting very bored of all the identikit capital (now greene king i suppose) pubs; actress, bishop, victoria inn are interchangeable...be interesting to see what they've done with the rye when it re-opens- the most recent tenure absolutely destroyed it.The parks are ok, but everywhere in london has nice green areas.I think the best thing about south east london is greenwich, but even that's a bit of a ballache to get to from peckham rye/east dulwichin short, i can't think of any reason not to move to islington in the near future ....hmmm, but i would miss franks bar Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/22558-leaving-se-londonwhat-would-you-miss-most-about-it/#findComment-531760 Share on other sites

Sloaners
I am leaving. Next Wednesday - for Hong Kong :(I am mostly going to miss: Pekham Rye Park (and all the other parks nearby), the EDT, the Cambria, Gowlett pizzas, a selection of Indian eateries, real ale, walking to work, random D-list sleb sightings, Lidl orange juice......but mostly I will be missing all the lovely people I've met since moving here 18 months ago. MrBen
I agree with Woodrot.Nothing worse than halfway house "countryside" a la Sevenoaks, parts of suburban Surrey etc. Shopping at petrol stations, golf jumpers and the Daily Express. And so very, very boring.
