Saucy open from today ...for good!

Recommended Posts

Back to the charging for Fries debate.

Most of the good burger places we go to charge between ?3.50-?5 for fries in addition to the cost of the burger.

personally this works for us as a couple as my OH likes fries with his burger and I prefer a side of coleslaw or salad.

I think as long as the fries are good, chunky and not those skinny tasteless frozen fast food cafe ones (ok I know some people love those) charging extra for them is fair enough

?5 for chips, madness....

The extra cost for fries is something that i've noticed creeping in across the board over the last few years as well as roasts where you now only pay for the meat and then have to pay for all of the other sides at an additional price.

Any chance of a menu being on the website? I really dont see any point to the website without a menu on it?

The new Palmerston is the same. Difference being i actually want to give Saucy Chip a go, if when at work i could look at a menu to decide, that is.

Perhaps time for a fact check.

Meat Liqour's classic burger, the Dead Hippie is ?9.50. Fries ?3 extra.

Saucy's classic burger is also ?9.50 but they do other dishes, salads etc. It's not a fast food joint.

Even The Plough (M&B chain), current holder of the most flavour-less burger on LL Award, is ?13 for a burger inc fries.

Want the same Plough burger in a slightly better location? Then head to sister pub The Dog in DV where they will charge you ?14.50.

On a budget? : McDonald's, Burger King, Finger Lickin Chicken....

In 2019, for this kind of independent restaurant and a prime location this is not out of kilter.

?1 extra for bacon is par for the course, surely?

Why would they give you it for nothing?

The place looks great, btw, I love the flowers outside. I hope after all the setbacks that now the place will flourish.

Because Honest Burger manage to (and always have, even when they were starting out)serve you a big tasty burger including bacon, cheese etc etc, with a portion of chips on your plate for ?11.50.

I don't agree with this idea that a burger in one place shouldn't be more expensive than a burger in another. It's not an identical product, why should the price be identical? Perhaps the Saucy burger is superior. Perhaps the environment and service are more restaurant-quality, rather than Honest's borderline fast-food offering. The only way to know is to try it.

    • The problem is, I'm not sure what the going rate is for park land for festivals of this nature. I'm sure they are paying less than outfits pay for access to the big stadia - but these have better facilities and are normally better for public transport. I am also sure that Councils could press for more, and should do so, but of course there isn't really a shortage of council lands to exploit, so these entrepreneurs could go elsewhere. What I would like to know is how much of the suggested £440,000 this year for Southwark is net profit - what are their costs in getting and administering this let? If this is a gross figure then what do they actually have as 'surplus'? But at least we have a starting point now - even if it's a guess I'm thinking it's a reasonably informed one.
