Over a weekend I often cook a big batch of something - bolognese, casserole, etc. I freeze most of it and these then make handy meals during the week.

Also:

Use lemon juice to clean your family jewels, it may sting a little - but they smell nice and zesty afterwards.

I was going to add this myself! I must concur this is v yummy - also it is good to add some coriander. (here is a top tip courstesy of "Cooking like Mummyji" - when you buy fresh coriander, wash it and chop it up and put in freezer - it still works fine).

Hi,

Just a quick hint. When we are prepping salads we place ground black pepper on the salad leaves. when the leaves are laid put the fruits (tomato, peppers, cucumber etc)on top. Then place finely chopped coriander (chopper available from Ikea) on the top. Garnish till you have reached the top of the bowl, cover in cling film and leave in the fridge at a low temp for a hour. the flavour of the coriander, herbs, and pepper make a really tasty salad.

Tonight I'm cooking - all from Lordship Lane.

Steak (William Rose), mushrooms, spicy sweet potato wedges, steamed purple broccoli (Pretty Traditional), cheese (Cheese Block) and a Zinfandel from Green & Blue. Also made some lemon curd this afternoon - lemons & sugar from SMBS, to blow away rainy Sunday blues.

Marmora Man -

I have mean to comment on several other threads about your patronage of LL small establishments (as opposed to the Supermarkets) and say how, although you probably know already, how On Your Side I am..

but that list there tipped me over the edge - I applaud you sir

Oooooh, can't resist, just to annoy Sean here's my list, almost all the ingredients from Sainsburys this morning (last minute lunch guest)

Soda bread and smoked salmon

Sirloin steaks on rosemary potatoes and lemon rocket salad

Chocolate brownies with hot chocolate sauce and Green & Blacks vanilla ice-cream.

To save me from going straight to hell for supermarket usage I should say it was all cooked from scratch and the soda bread was homemade with buttermilk from SMBS.

Hee hee

I have just had homemade fajitas (chicken with peppers and red onion) - served with homemade guacomale - all ingredients bought at Sainsbury's (yes, shoot me, shoot me now) ... and very yummy indeed. The one redeeming feature is that aside from the tortilla wraps, all ingredients were organic.

Twas almost as good as last night's meatloaf with organic streaky bacon wrapped round it - a recipe from Mama Cherri's Soul Food cookbook. Oooooh it was lovely - and I convinced myself that with celery, peppers, garlic and onions all included it Wasn't That Unhealthy Really.

And can I just add... I was in the queue at Sainsbury's last night with Other Forumers. I shall reveal no more....

    • I've just had James from Trelco round doing taps and hot water.  Prompt, efficient and pleasant people and the cost came in under what we thought it would be! Will definitely use them again.
    • Yes - adult care is a large part of the CT bill.  That does not mean the council spend our money well or wisely.
    • “What do councils spend all the money on?” Is, in my view, one of the most profoundly emblematic of our times  we go about our lives, backed up by councils and governments and complain they aren’t needed  reform win elections based on “we’re gonna go in and slash all the waste!” Only to later admit there effectively isn’t any oh and by the way we need to increase council tax   Now all we have to offer is racism and ineptitude sorry about that  https://www.gbnews.com/money/reform-elon-musk-doge-failed-savings So where does the money go? On a multitude of services - but the increasingly aged population and the care provision required is a large part of it  the government could give councils more money to avoid council tax rises  - but the we would have to pay more in jewels taxation  and as a country we tend to pay less than other similar countries  so we end up with an expensive mend and make do approach  I don’t see any political parties offering a solution   Starmer is obviously lacking in many areas but he is the result of a hostile media and a reluctant population willing to hear truths  (wait until we hear how much we will need to increase defence spending by in the coming years) If a party stopped pretending all the money was wasted but published a list of costs, projections and proposals that wasn’t gutted to suit the landscape of needing to not bemonstered by the press or deemed too expensive by voters I would be very interested      can’t see that happening tho  (also worth reminding ourselves of all the brexiters who said things like “I don’t care how much it costs   I don’t care if I lose my job  it’s about taking back control!” And yet now we find them complaining about increasing costs. As they always will complain about everything  because it’s always someone else’s fault)
    • I wouldn't be going all the way to Dobbies  just to take flowerpots! 😀 It's a very good garden centre with a wide range of well kept  plants and helpful staff, at least it was on the only occasion I've visited it, last year!
