The video keeps appearing on new sites and getting taken down but it is worth tracking down if you can

quote:

"The video that was shown at the scientology award ceremony when Tom Cruise was presented with the IAS Freedom Medal of Valor in 2006 has shown up on-line, and although it's getting ripped down as fast as it's put up, you can see it here or download it here. If I had to describe it with one word, it would be oh-my-fucking-god. These people are nuts. At one point he says something to the effect of, "when a scientologist drives by an accident, we have to stop, because we know we're the only ones who can help". Um, or feel free to call 911. Because being trapped under a car and then seeing Tom Cruise run up is just about the most horrible mental image I've ever had. I would seriously just fake my own death at that point. "

Some highlights

Insane laughter at the end

Free use of terms like KSW and SP

The bit about how he can't go on holiday because "he knows"

Random, unexplained pauses that would put Shatner to shame

The concept that Tom Cruise has delivered "LOH technology" (Google draws a blank on this) to over 1 million people on earth

Horrible, horrible, the glazed look of those who know they are possessed of the only reality that others just don't get.

Have they got an apocalyptic streak yet? Most cults, whether 16th century anabaptists or Heaven's Gatists or whoever, end up with an apocalypse scenario once promises of revelation and/or salvation in ones lifetime don't come to pass.

Yeah yeah, the history books will be full of SPs in the chapter entitled 'post millennial loons'.

I think the LOH thing might refer to Operating Thetan*'s immunity to disease, cancer ageing et al, but don't quote me. Idiots.

Incidentally the top level is described thus

"A thetan who is completely rehabilitated and can do everything a thetan should do, such as move MEST and control others from a distance,"

Now, what could I be referring to? ;-)

Puts me in mind of THIS (about 2.10 in) *Shudders*

This was on Channel 4 News last night, and it was pointed out that this video was made about 2 years ago before Katie and Baby. He's still a nutter though!

>>I thought they had actually bought a house in the Village - just never moved<<

There were all kinds of rumours flying around as I recall. I thought though Ms Kidman merely rented that enormous place in Dulwich Village about 3 doors from the wine shop whilst she appeared in "The Blue Room"?

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
    • Ha! After I posted this, I thought of lots more examples. Screwfix and the hardware store? Mrs Robinson and Jumping Bean? Chemists, plant shops, hairdressers...  the list goes on... it's good to have healthy competition  Ooooh! Two cheese shops
