Still Dizzy - It looks like Nunhead lane has finally got a new bus stop and a covered one at that, and paid for by the generous folk of ED, thank you. It looks like the regeneration might finally be under way.....stop sniggering at the back ....My only problem is this, 5 years ago a few of us enquired as to why Dulwich Village got Cast Iron bus stops while our request on behalf of the numerous pensioners in Nunhead for a covered shelter was ignored the response was this " due to fear of vandalism we have had them constructed out of iron with the glass back to the fences " ...mmmm interesting so if Dulwich village is similar to fallujah that it requires such bus stop protection then Nunhead with its plastic glass shelters facing the road must be similar to some alpine village in Switzerland, christ we will get a Foxtons within days in that case.

No it's not in ED, but a number of forumites have been telling me that Nunhead & Peckham are basically subsidised by the huge tax contributions of the folk of ED, not to mention the vast amounts of council tax that ED pays because of house price rises. So I have taken them for their word and sent a message of thanks for our lovely new bus stop x x

Ps could they find it within themselves to give us a few traffic calming measures on the road on the othreside of the Peckham Rye park, even just 1 "Slow down 30 mph" flashing signs (not 60mph) would be gratefully recieved.

Well apparently it's beacuse Ed has more expensive houses therefore a greater council tax band, so everynow and then you donate the folk of Nunhead something regenerationary, like a bus stop or a photocopier for the library.

So thanks again, you are all like one big generous Elton John wrapped in an Organic Pashmeena x x

There is one going spare on the corner of LL & Upland Road! When they installed it, the radar was facing the wrong way so you got the sign flashing if the oncoming traffic was speeding and you were stationary. Shortly thereafter the radar gun bit fell off and its been silent even since.

I'm sure you could pick up a new radar bit on eBay and resiting it would make for a fun day out...... :))

They are traffic angering measures. They make nobody "calm".

They are dangerous and do NOT encourage good safe driving because of the dependence on short term driver-planning.

Please do not insist they go everywhere. They are also dangerous for people in ambulances and so on.

Er ? I was talking about the flashing LED signs that say "Reduce speed to 30mph" and only near the Zebra Crossing that is largely ignored by drivers as they fly down the hill at 50+ Mph.

This crossing is used by a lot more children now the park is a more attractive place to be, The crossing itself is extremely faded. The one on the otherside near the clockhouse is bright, well marked and the road has 2 speed reminders on and 2 speed cameras. They could at least find some f***ing money and sort the other one out before there is an accident.

    • This week's edition of The Briefing Room I found really useful and impressively informative on the training aspect.  David Aaronovitch has come a long way since his University Challenge day. 😉  It's available to hear online or download as mp3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002n7wv In a few days time resident doctors -who used to be known as junior doctors - were meant to be going on strike. This would be the 14th strike by the doctors’ union since March 2023. The ostensible reason was pay but now the dispute may be over without more increases to salary levels. The Government has instead made an offer to do something about the other big issue for early career doctors - working conditions and specialist training places. David Aaronovitch and guests discuss what's going on and ask what the problem is with the way we in Britain train our doctors? Guests: Hugh Pym, BBC Health Editor Sir Andrew Goddard, Consultant Gastroenterologist Professor Martin McKee, Professor of European Public Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Mark Dayan, Policy Analyst, Nuffield Trust. Presenter: David Aaronovitch Producers: Caroline Bayley, Kirsteen Knight, Cordelia Hemming Production Co-ordinator: Maria Ogundele Sound Engineers: Michael Regaard, Gareth Jones Editor: Richard Vadon
    • That was one that the BBC seem to have lost track of.  But they do still have quite a few. These are some in their 60s archive. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0028zp6
