Where has the post gone in East Dulwich

Recommended Posts

Wasn't there a post recently from Renata saying that, due to staffing issues at Peckham, they would not be delivering post every day but would be collecting it daily from postboxes? That, combined with the national suspension of Saturday deliveries, has cut down the frequency of deliveries.

I have found the Royal Mail to be decent, turns up almost every day in the Goose Green Ward.

Which is more concerning is the amount of couriers hurtling over speed bumps right outside my window, they are going so fast it sounds like a small explosion.

We haven?t had any post for over a week - it was my daughter?s birthday on Saturday and none of the cards or presents that family had posted well in advance have arrived yet. Understandable that there are delays and disruption to the service but surely we should be getting more than one delivery a week?

Just a Note on pickup from post boxes. I went to the postbox a 14.00 last week

to find the post van had picked up, when i tapped on his window and ask him if he could take my letter

the reply was put it in the post box and drove off. The post box said 17.00 pick up, its not

the first time this has happened. Most post office staff are very friendly and help you . NOT THIS ONE

I think probably times have changed due to current circumstances and staff absence etc..

Also there may have been social distancing issues with taking your letter.

Which doesn't excuse rudeness, of course.

Reply to above. The post box said 17.00 not 14.00. Any person posting a

letter knowing its 17.00 would get it to the post box before that time.

Hoping it would be there in a couple of days, but already one day now gone.

As for social distancing, it was the passenger side and only had to open window

2 inches.

The stated collection time is that of the final collection of the day from the box. That doesn't preclude there being an additional earlier one. What you could have checked is the removable metal tag that states just the name of the day of the next scheduled collection. That would, I guess, at 14:00 have remained unchanged.

That said, I did notice one day last week that the tag on my local box, at least ten minutes before the stated last collection time, had already been changed to the next day. That can occasionally happen, I guess when there are staff shortages and pressure against overtime. Usually the final collection seems to be made a little later than its scheduled time.

Hi all, below is my post from the other thread on the same subject. There are still delays. Post does turn up eventually, I had one item take 5 weeks!

Renata

I've just spoken to a member of staff at Peckham Sorting Office. Unfortunately they are very short staffed due to a high level of sickness. Additionally. use of postal services are far higher than usual. They currently have a huge backlog of post. A fortnight delay to post can be expected for some items. (As well as delays in Peckham there are also delays at all points in the postal service chain) On-foot deliveries are typically only happening every 4 days on each round in SE22/SE15. Saturday deliveries have been suspended. They apologise for the delay and say that post should turn up eventually.

Peckham is the worst hit area of Southwark. From 6th May

Yes, thanks, I did know that but as for a while at least Southwark was also the worst hit area of London, I wondered whether Peckham may have also - then or more recently - been the area with the highest level in London.

    • Can you recommend a nice place for a birthday treat Afternoon Tea, South of the river (not central) ok for drive and park. Thanks
    • I was at the bus stop again today and as usual this restuarant was deserted. I felt sad to see the nicely laid tables yet nobody in there.. As @the_hermit said I think they need to tidy up the frontage a bit and despite the laid tables with wine glasses on it does'nt read as inviting or home cooked or authentic. If I were the owners I would do a quick fix for instance ditch the white table cloths and put some more rustic looking checked cloths on the tables, or ditch the cloths altogether, just make it look less cold. Ditto I would instead of the awful signage or in addition to it put a handwritten painted menu ON the window stating what they offer "home made pasta" etc... I hope the OP shows this feed to the owners. I wish the owners well as I think its extemely brave of anyone to open a resturant or any kind of buisness in the UK in the current economic climate..and if the food is as good as the OP states a few inexpexive tweaks should make it look more inviting because at present I really would'nt feel tempted to go inside for a sit down meal.
    • You can't refuse. TW allows you up to a 12 months after installation during which time you can continue with the fixed rate system. Then after 12 months you go on the meter rates regardless. The one benefit of this is that the meter send readings on an hourly basis and if you have consumption being registered, when you would not expect it,  (such as between 1am and 6am) , they will advise you that you have a leak somewhere and will give an estimate of how much extra this leakage will cost you after you go on the meter rates.  That way you can fix your lea(s) in advance and save money. If you cannot find the leak  inside the house, it may be outside underground, between your house and the water meter because your old lead pipe may be leaking. That stretch of pipe is your responsibility.  Then you can ask them to help you find it and if you play your cards nicely and catch the TW guy on a good day, then TW will replace your old 1" pipe with a new blue 25mm pipe.
    • Thank you to everyone who do drop off food while they were casting their votes, thanks also to those who enquired about volunteering. It doesn't have to be an election day though to do either though, so we would be grateful to receive donations and additional volunteer help any other day of the year too. We have also just added another string to our bow, and are now re-homing unwanted electricals too, so if you have any unwanted small electricals lurking at home that we can re-home, please drop them off to use to. We only ask that they are clean and working.  we will PAT test them and assuming all good, we will find a new home for them.
