I really like the food the guy with the van serves on North Cross Road. aquarius moon
Isn't there enough restuarants on Lordship Lane already?Proper shops would be good. uptime
I would love a wagamama. Or a Pho. Or any decent south east asian restaurant on LL. An independent one like Tamang Thai in CP would also be a welcome addition. neilson99
I'd be happy with a Wagga on the doorstep too. It would be a shame that some of our local independents would have to up their game in terms of quality of food, better service and a good look at their prices, but hey, I could just about live with that sacrifice... Annette Curtain
It won't happenWrong demograph-Wrong location-Wrong everything(insert sad face)They set up in areas that have a broader footfall, more business and recreational/destination/tourists/casual walk-insUsually in areas like Wimbledon, Putney, Richmond, Soho, Camden & Bluewater.East Dulwich ain't on their radar & can join the queue behind wannabee Clapham, Northcote Road, Balham and such likesHowever, IF they landed here, in a fantasy retail spaceship - along with Waitrose, M&S & Nando's, Greggs... then of course...la la laaI'd go on occasions, to eat and have my placemat scribbled onWhy not !Nette Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25479-wagamama-restaurant/page/2/#findComment-574922 Share on other sites

Applespider
Wagamamas used to be great but then over-expanded, the prices went up, the food quality went down and it isn't value for money any longer. If we must have a chain, I would take a Busaba Eathai or a Wahaca or even a Tortilla or itsu.Or any good independent selling any of those food types! Annette Curtain
I went to the one in Canterbury last wekNo better or worse than any other WGGMA experience i've had. Quick, fresh, efficient service. maxxi
Whether Wagamama moves in or not, GBK is really crappy - I mean reeeally crappy. If it fails maybe they (Wagga) could move in there, then if it's crap there'll be no real change to the area. Lowlander
Agree with other comments on stuffing LL with more chain restaurants which push up rents. They're all pretty average and would make LL look like any other high street.Wagamama falls firmly into that category. What would be good would be a nice Italian restaurant. Barry_Underhill
Wagamama is the work of the devil. Shockingly bad, fake and lazy approximation of Japanese cuisine. And it's a chain. ????
...keep chains out, quality of food aside they'll just destroy any character shopping street. I remember when Upper Street was a joy now it's a chain filled horror. from Cafe fooking Nero to GBK to Adventure Bar the writing is on the wall I think. Especially when the new census data filters into all the location marketing tools and the people in all the chains development offices say "hey, SE22 is coming up on the databse as a real opportunity for our XXXXXX aimed at soulless yuppies with no imagination concept" Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25479-wagamama-restaurant/page/2/#findComment-574996 Share on other sites

maxxi
@quids - couldn't agree more, my Niece came up from Bristol to visit last weekend with her boyfriend - on a quick walk along the Lane she was surprised/delighted at the amount of independent shops/businesses there were (all this unprompted) and bemoaned the fact that it wasn't like that back home.Re Le Chardon - had a disastrously bland and watery fish soup there recently but it was followed by an excellent coq-au-vin (70s maybe, but delicious) so something bad, something wonderful - typically French.ET change names (it's all French to me) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25479-wagamama-restaurant/page/2/#findComment-575061 Share on other sites
