El Pibe
We've just done The Killing (us version) as it was free on Virgin and have to say it was excellent.GoT is good, I did three episodes then started again and was much happier and it just keeps getting better. There's just a shed load of characters and setting and intrigue and working out who the bloody hell is who when you start, so the reset worked really well for me. pablogrande
If you have Netflix there's some pretty good American comedy Arrested DevelopmentIt's always sunny in PhiladelphiaThe Anerican version of the officealso a UK comedy series I never heard of first time round, Nighty Night. bon3yard
Thanks to Netflix I finally got aquainted with the US Office and have ploughed through the first 6 seasons. Very well written and Steve Carrells take on David Brent is sublime, an exuberant man-child. Its a tad more sympathetic than the Gervais original without surrendering to the american tendency for schmaltz...bugger all else on Netflix though barring Breaking Bad & Sons of Anarchy. dulwichgirl2
Have enjoyed a lot of Those mentioned but simply cannot get the Sopranos. Simply don't like the main character who stops the car to best up someone and who goes to therapy, that guy. Could not get past how much we disliked him. dulwichgirl2
Husker, yes it is true. We watched the first episode and, while with a myriad of other boxsets we were totally hooked, with the Sops, neither my husband nor I had any interest in continuing to watch. What are we missing? We didn't find it funny, gripping, interesting, thrilling, nothing. V disappointing. 24 on the other hand, we watched four episodes time after time. V lazy I know but loved it. Otta
24 is action, Sopranos is a family drama set against the mob backdrop, it's not one long Goodfellas. Peckhamgatecrasher
I adore "Inspector Montalbano" and can thoroughly recommend it. Have wine, olives and espresso to hand when watching.A guilty pleasure is "Alphas", the second series has just started on TV. bon3yard
I'm with you on Dexter, wasnt keen at all. When they started with the flashbacks to Dexters youth with his comedy haircut and his sainted old dad telling him to be a conscientous serial killer I just assumed they were playing it for laughs. civilservant
BuffyI find Montalbano a bit tedious - typical shallow Italian telly. The books have depth, the series has 'atmosphere'. As for 24, you can watch it once. The second time, the thrill is totally gone. the-e-dealer
Dexter - Although it has a bit of humour is pretty dark. And is Brilliantly Written. Possibly the best thing on TV Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25892-telly-boxsets/page/2/#findComment-606468 Share on other sites
